It’s about time so I may order one although my biggest complaint with EOS R’s 4K is the horrendous rolling shutter.
..incidentally global shutter on Komodo is a massive appeal and could potentially kill 1DX3 sales for action videographers etc..

Hello everyone.. a couple of weeks ago the NOMO Films team was in Guatemala to film a fictional short and we wanted to show you how it was being made. We shot BTS for the whole shoot and this is the first episode. I hope you like it and let me know if you have any questions!

Stills: I'm looking for a FF 24mm 1.8 at least equivalent look. I'll be working on a refugee camp and that's how I will mainly be portraying.
On video side I need the best HD I can get for doc cimea verite stiyle to be eventually matched with a C100. I need to get as close as possible to something that gives me the most DR and best colours with the lowest disk space. Sharp enough so than I don't to shoot 4k, which usually demands more space, makes battery last less and eventually heats up. I'll be working on the brazilian/venezuelan border. So tough body and overheating is nice (RP, 3) at the same time, since it's an military area, an unobtrusive and low profile options with pancakes are a plus ( 30, M6mkii). I also consider buying an used ricoh grII.
Having this in mind, so far my options are:
    x-t30 + 16mm 1.4 = $1,700
    X-t3+ 16mm 1.4= $1900
    Canon M6MkII + 16mm 1.4 = $1230
    Canon EOS RP+ sigma 24mm 1.4 = $ 1670
I'm leaning towards either the RP or m6mkii so far. but not sure.
    What would you pick?
    P.S: I would add 32mm 1.4 for M6MKII, and 35mm 1.8 RP. For fujis, since no digital stabilization, I would skip the 35mm 1.4 and buy the 18-55 2.8-f4 + 35mm 1.2 artisans

All else being equal, I'd suggest the RP + 24 1.4.
This is because the 24 1.4 can be stopped down a bit to get to 1.8 equivalent, and therefore be slightly sharper at a given DoF.  This would also mean you can match CS much easier to the C100 down the track.
Of course, all else isn't equal, so work out what you care about more and prioritise the setups accordingly...
I'm also assuming that the RP doesn't have a crop, but that might be risky with a Canon?

I found the ipb to be quite jittery in motion and the All-I had a buttery motion to the eye. The All-I is easier to edit too. It reminds me of the mjpeg in character.
Could have been a frame rate setting issue, but those additional MBs make a hell of a difference from my experience.

    I succumbed and bought one.
I will test more fully over the next week. Ergonomically from a stills view it's very much a urgh. No EVF makes life very difficult for me but i do have the VF on order so maybe that will change things.
Cine mode. DNG. It's heaven. This is all you need from a camera. I've side by sided UHD 8bit onto SDXC vs A7sII UHD Slog2/Sgamut and there's no joke. It's almost comical. The low end and the highlights are literally playing in different ballparks. What crushes the A7sII footage is the compression. Simple as that. So that 8 bit UHD is remarkably good. I'm pushing and pulling it and comparing to the same thing shot  FHD in 12 bit and it's incredibly robust - so much more than it should be.
Over the next week i'll push and pull properly. I got it as I needed a lightweight B cam to my Red for a shoot - so i need to intercut and i'll be finding it's comfort zones side by side with everything.
So far the best resolve post in in ACES. My fear with going into any 709 space is that the camera native spectral response will be outside of 709. All Sony sensors push red way out and it's easy to see with bright red subjects. If you don't debayer into a larger colourspace then those reds get clipped or mushed into gamut. I don't know enough about DNG support in Resolve but visually into ACES appears much better. The only other valid option i think is Linear in, certainly none of the BMD Presets as they're for very different sensors.

    Cheers

Battery life isnt as bad on the eos rp as people make out.  I used to own it. Got a f mixture of stills and video for a days shoot .
I sold our in the end and went for the R . I could have kept it if not for it lacking ALL-I

Cool, given that its been severely cropped and still remain some detail it looks good.

Yes, I love it. Dead silent, no wobble and I don't have to remember to turn it off. The crop is negligible, intercuts nicely with FS7 4K.
I really hope the manufactures keep advancing EIS because it was nice on the 6Dmkii and really nice on the R.
Either way I have decided to get another R instead of the RP simply because I do use the 8fps shooting mode sometime. I often don't use CAF so the 5fps on the RP is plenty. But using CAF in 8fps with an awesome hit rate on the R, in raw, with what feels like an unlimited buffer has saved me many times already. Might as well dubble up on that feature.
    So thanks anyway!
(Still might get an RP for private use since I miss the 6Dmkii image and would love to try my medium format speed booster on it.)
BTW here is an EOS-R video a fellow shared in the R FB-group. All handheld with the 35mm f1.8 and just the lens IS. A good option if one is afraid of the negligible crop EIS gives at the normal setting. And given how many EF lenses have great IS.. plenty of stabilization to go around imo.

Well I received it 2 days ago (3 days before the estimate) ? Years ago my main casual camera was the Panasonic GX7 + Olympus 17mm f1.8. This camera actually achieves everything that I wanted in an upgrade to it. Maintains the same body size but has a better grip. Better sensor. Better colour out of camera. An even smaller 35mm equivalent lens. And has video stabilisation,
I've been comparing the Canon to my Fuji XT30 ?

Something that surprised me is that there's actually a setting called "Highlight Tone Priority" that's not too dissimilar to Fuji's DR setting.
    Disabled:

    Enabled:

And so the result is that you can actually get quite similar dynamic range to the Fuji with Eterna on DR400.
    Fuji:

    Canon:

    Fuji:

    Canon:

One thing that disappoints me is that bokeh of the 22mm is noticeably smaller than the Fuji's 23mm.
    Fuji 23mm f1.4 @ f2.2:

    Canon 22mm @ f2:

Another thing I noticed is that Canon's whitebalance usually does a better job than Fuji. Prior to the X-T30 I've also owned the X-t2, which also struggled with finding the right WB.

Hey guys I've ordered this camera and it should be with me next week :)
I also have the X-T30 so I could do some comparison shots before I sell it on if any of you are interested.
Reasons for switching are very specific to my needs as a hobbyist.
Paired with the 22mm lens it becomes one of the smallest 35mm equivalent cameras. I can take it anywhere in my jacket pocket. Video features: object tracking (Fuji can only track faces), digital stabilization. From DPreview's charts, the 1080p looks excellent. Decent at 120fps too. I'm not a big 4k guy. Canon colours are about as good as Fuji. Ergonomics: Much better grip (I have an add-on grip for the Fuji but it adds weight and still doesnt feel great). Built in tiltable flash. Flip up screen (not that id use it much).  Can adapt the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 with native AF support. One thing I really hope Canon makes is something like Sony's new 16-55mm f2.8. Its small, light and stabilised.

Image holds more detail with higher color depth. Less prone to banding and you can push the image more in post.

The advantage Canon has in terms of skin tones is better auto WB imo. Fuji auto white balance isn't very good, best to stick to manual.

If you record externally on the Canon and get the 10 bit 4k its really nice, but its 1.7 crop and has terrible rolling shutter.

I really rate the Sigma colour profiles. They have carried over some Foveon skills into this image processor.
The standard profile looks very natural, and the main thing Vivid does is give you a warmer look, a more Canon-like look - rather than just increasing the saturation of standard.
Uniquely you can dial up and down a profile overall from -5 to +5, blending with standard at -5 and increasing the difference at +5
The teal & orange "Hollywood" profile is not overdone and nicer than the cinema profile. The cinema profile suits very specific shots. The T&O looks good on almost everything. Beautiful.
Although there is not yet a LOG profile, the Sigma Fp product manager is from Samsung - I don't expect their run of firmware updates to hold back on new features!! NX1 owners will know what I am talking about!
The nod to Magic Lantern with 8bit Cinema DNG is as much a statement of intent, as it is a beautiful image.
I am in love with this camera.

The only thing I wish the Fp had was phase-detect on-chip autofocus.
And maybe an articulated screen like the RX1R II
It is an amazing, unique camera as it is, and an absolute blast. Last time I had this much fun was when I first picked up a GH2 all those years ago.
    60p in 12bit 1080p RAW.
4K 60p RAW Cinema DNG file sizes would be astronomical. Like 6 min per 128GB or something crazy.
Yes, I wish it had 4K/60p full frame 10bit but we are not in year 2022 yet  Not even S1H can do it. Super 35mm mode.
