If audio is a big concern, then get the f/2.0
the f/1.4 is a very nice lens with incredible look. but the focus motor is loud. The f/2.0 also focuses faster in stills. i got the 1.4. I don’t record audio with build in mic or in the hotshoe and if the mic isn’t too close the loud motor is no problem
I don’t think the update will change anything about that, since that’s all due to different hardware.

you can switch them to linear focus mode. With this the focus get's predictable, but throw is very long.
    edit: the sound stays though.

frontfocus reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon EOS RP and Fuji X-T30 announced - a Grand Canyon sized gap in 4K technology
Oh look! It's time for Canon to roll out their old chips again! The EOS RP has an identical sensor to the 6D Mark II, with a micro-lens array design more suited to mirrorless lenses. Canon openly admit in interviews that the RP cannot even do cropped 4K/30p without overheating. Even the modest bump in frame rate would have necessitated "a larger body design", they say. Not sure I believe them, but clearly the technology is behind the curve.
Most disappointingly of all, it turns out that the EOS RP lacks Dual Pixel AF in 4K video mode, like the M50, which means it's a "no-buy" from me and better to stick with the EOS R until the pro body is released, which perhaps, is the intention.
Fuji on the other hand - an even smaller, lighter (380g) and cheaper camera has a full-width 6K sensor readout without overheating and most of the 4K video features of the superb X-T3 for under $900, with F-LOG, 120fps 1080p and bonus 10bit 4:2:2 external output.
There is a CHASM between Canon and Fuji in their video technology.

So within half a week he decided to do a negative camera review about a camera he hasn't even touched yet. Negative reviews bring in views and that's what he is making money off. Thanks for calling him out Andrew.

I was potentially in the market for one of these needing a 4th body, but the pros of the XH1 have swung the decision for me.
Extra size/bulk (a plus for me), build, handling, IBIS, super snicky shutter sound, - the XH1 is a joy. (Already have one in my stable, - XT3, XH1 and XE3).
Plus they are now below 1000 euros in Europe with high street dealers. Insane price for what you get and IMO, the most underrated of recent Fuji X cams.

You wrote Andrew Reid in your article "However, you won’t find a full frame mirrorless camera with 4K video from any of those manufacturers at $1299."
From Canon you won't have full-frame 4K below $33000 (it's the price of C700 FF).

It's not the size of an X-T30 and you have to add a 0 to the price, but Dpreview says, that the upcoming GFX 100S will shoot 4K at 10bit 4:2:0 internally, same as the X-T3.

    It's comparable to 150Mbps in H.264
Nothing to write home about, but at least they offer HEVC.

Overall it doesn't look like the camera is aimed at the video market, as it's seems aimed mainly at professional photographers

you have to put it into boost. If you don't do it, after a few seconds of not pressing any buttons, it will jump into power saving mode, with slowed down readout and refresh time. if you didn't reprogramm it, the arrow down is the toggle for the boost mode.

its a power saving feature on most fuji cameras, if you put the camera in high performance mode the screen will stay with the fast frame rate, has nothing todo with the recordings

I guess they take the same approach with the X-T30 as they did with the X-T20. No weather sealing, no battery grip option, just one card slot and not the best viewfinder they have.

In video, instead of reading out 5K and downsampling it, they did a 4K pixelbinning but had full sensor width. I expect something similar with the X-T30. Probably not all bitrates are going to come either. I could see the X-T30 be limited to Long GOP and 100Mbps instead of the optional All-Intra and 400 Mbps of the T3. But we will know soon

IBIS? 0% chance. That one I know ?

And Sony has such a bad rep with overheating, I remember my Sony a5100 overheating after each gimbal take even during winter time at night!

I use the X-H1 if I only do a few handheld shots. As soon as I bring stabilization I take the X-T3. Or of course both
If you don't need the features of the flagships like weather sealing, dual card slots and so on, I would wait 3 weeks for the X-T30 release. It might bring some of the X-T3 features, for a lot less money.

the unpleasant thing is, that this shows how bad the E-M1 II was and not how good the E-M1x is.
It will be interesting to see, how the camera compares to the real focussing monsters, A9, A6400, X-T3 or the best DSLRs.

I had a nice used bargain from them this week, when I picked up a Fuji X100F for £700.
The description said it had heavy marks on the screen.
When it arrived, I just rubbed the screen with my thumb and the marks vanished
Let's keep it this way. If word gets out that their testing team should use an occasional spit and polish, the bargains won't look quite so compelling!
They are aiming at 1D X II and D5 users with the pricing. "Buy Olympus... we're cheaper and lighter"
I'll be very surprised if the tactic works.
And for the enthusiasts, they are not going to pony up $3k for something with worse specs than a G9

It's not a E-M1 II with a grip. In terms of the body it is greatly updated. The weather-sealing is top notch. It no doubt is a much tougher camera. Granted, it shares much of its electronics with the E-M1 II, but the body is a huge upgrade. That said, you would have to be a bit insane to want to plop down $3000 for this camera. From all accounts this camera is robust, but it is outdated in many important ways. While the image stabilization is amazing, the warping effect that it sometimes produces will be the gremlin that ruins the important must get shot for you.
It's not hard to make the decision to pass on this one. I think this camera may be further proof that M43 is dying. They could have done something epic at this price point.... built in ND, Global shutter, Dual ISO, 120 fps 4k.... the body is certainly large enough; but all they did was to toughen the body and rehash some old tech. Pity.

It appears the ND filter is kind of a "gimmick" and only available with stills. It appears to take multiple images in order to create a shot that appears to have an ND? I assume a dreamy looking waterfall for example? This is a huge bummer in my book. I would love to see a mirrorless camera that has a real ND filter.
