Mostly follow the local fb group i am in, there are some good advice there as people tend to share their findings and research (and some bad ones too though, so choose wisely).  I do it as long term investment instead of playing for short term, so minor dips dont worry me much. Since bank interest is so low so and gonna be that way for a few years there is no point put money in the bank unless u buying a house or something.
I didn't watch youtube as they are like any other youtuber...

To second what @ntblowz said, most people I know that are successful in investing are in it for the long term.  There's a saying that if you're going to own stock for a decade or more, any time is the right time to buy.
There is a pretty widely held belief that there is a strong 10-year cycle that the market follows, and so the idea is to plot a 10-year moving average for the whole market (eg, look at the indexes) and whenever the current market position is below that trend-line then that's the right time to buy.

@Andrew Reid do you still have your s1/s1h would you be able to compare ibis on the s5 and the s1/s1h? As Gerald says its not as good, and newsshooter says its the same.

I think so. They had to have a gyro instead of IBIS data for the FX9 because they couldn't have the IBIS mechanism and the electronic ND both fit in the mount. I'm actually really impressed with the Gyro data stabilization, and look forward to that being usable in other applications.

Their "advanced" mode on the A7sIII seems great and I'm glad they have the gyro data.

From Gerald Undone's tests it seems that the IBIS is not as good as the Panasonic S1, so that is another strike against it for me.

Never used an S1 camera before, but i guess I will never hook it up to a external monitor (because of weight and power). Have other camera's that will do that just fine. This camera for me is all about compact travel videography and photography, and for shoots where I need B-roll where the low weight, small form factor and ibis will benefit me greatly.

It breaks easily and requires you to have a cage for the camera to use it reliably without it falling out or getting pulled out easily. Full and even miniHDMI you can get away with just plugging it in sometimes but I never trust micro and don't want to lug a cage whenever I want to use and external monitor.

Honestly hope the S5 releases for $1500 and kills used prices on the S1, that way I can pick one up with the XLR input. It really is a rock solid camera with no negatives for me except the lack of great video AF.... and I really don't use video AF right now, it would just be nice to have.

S5 is rumoured to have uncropped 60p at 10 bit.  Big tick.  Flip screen.  Another big tick.  Smaller too, which is another big tick.  Its not my main camera, and I don't want it big.  I have my cinema cameras for that.  Hopefully improved AF as well.
It will carry another year of technical development in it.  So may have some small improvements here and there.
So definitely above the S1 in many key areas.

This camera is the most interesting of all the new releases imho, am bored of the overheating mess that is Canon, and the disappointingly video like images of the A7s3.

It's a bad idea because a gaming headset isn't designed to be neutral, it is very coloured with the bass, mids and highs dialled in a certain way. So it is a bit like doing colour grading on an inaccurate monitor. You will compensate for those inaccuracies and the image will be completely off on everybody else's screens.
So don't do it and get Beyerdynamic closed back monitoring headphones DT770 Pro.

zerocool22 reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon EOS R5 so-called overheat timer defeated by a single screw in battery door
It has yet to be proven that 8K RAW goes indefinitely, but yes it is very impressive hardware.
There may be thermal throttling or lock-ups somewhere during long sessions, we don't know - but what is now proven without a shadow of a doubt is how artificial the 15 minute limit is and how it counts down on a timer rather than a high maximum temperature cut off point.
My opinion gets stronger every day that all this is about segmenting it from the Cinema EOS cameras.
But we all know this is a stupid business decision, because most Cinema EOS camera owners wanted to buy an EOS R5 as a b-cam, second body, third body, handheld rig, you name it.
In my opinion Canon seems to want to sell every professional shooter a minimum of 2 very expensive cameras for the same shoot - one single hybrid camera at $4000 plus very expensive high margin optics is not enough it seems. Shoot stills? Buy EOS R5. Shoot video? Buy C500 Mark II. Shoot both. Buy both.
Yup it is terrible for us who just want to buy the EOS R5 for it's amazing hardware and cinematic images.
We're always the one to get screwed it seems.
This is why Canon, in my opinion, has been losing video users for years.
It is faulty thinking, throughout the company. I don't know which part of Canon is most to blame - USA or Japan? Both? EOS or Cinema? Maybe both? Or do the EOS guys secretly really dislike the politics that the Cinema business has brought to the company and the restrictions it has placed on their products and all the stupid segmentation?
    Either way, they must change.
I am up to 1 hour of 8K H.265 which is very special from a 45MP full frame sensor.
It makes it even more frustrating that Canon has turned it into a lemon then!
If Canon chose to lie to their customers about limitations on a $700 consumer camera that was boring and unexciting, the passion wouldn't quite be as strong to uncover the truth and fix it... That it is a very expensive flagship camera and the first of its kind in the world, makes it a hugely emotional topic for me & you, and rightly so.

Som years ago it came out that a famous car company has manipulated the control system of their cars, so when measuring how pollutive the exhaust is, the software adjusted the engine management, so very low values were registered. The company did advertise the cars with these impossible to archive values, so actually were misleading, cheating the customers. Investigations showed that also other car manufacturers made use of this ingenious trick…
Since these firms have paid billions as penalty, have “reengineered” the control software, have recalled millions of cars, the responsible ones have faced serious sanctions and most of the CEO-s are not seeeous anymore. Most people find all this rightful.
I really hope that in some of the most important countries, markets for Canon, where customers are not willing to be defrauded and the legal system is grown up to such situations, Canon is going to be punished for this absurd dishonesty. It will also be an important message for the whole high-tech/IT industry, where shiny marketing brochures often promise values, never archivable in real world.

zerocool22 reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon EOS R5 so-called overheat timer defeated by a single screw in battery door
On Friday, I received a message from the lead developer at Magic Lantern. An interesting theory was being put forward by one of their open source contributors, which he believed could defeat the so-called overheat timer on the Canon EOS R5.
Initially I was skeptical as to whether it would work! Mainly because the initial real-world tests on my own EOS R5 did not reset the timer.
    But then, a break-through.
Magic Lantern just became Magic Screw!

A lot of the stuff I do is delivered in 1080p, with maybe 10% in UHD. I also still make DVDs for some clients, but always send a 1080p mp4 via Dropbox or Google Drive.
Really I deliver in whatever way the client wants though. A surprising number don't want/expect anything with a high bit rate. I'll often get asked if I can make the file smaller!

zerocool22 reacted to Andrew Reid in Removing internal battery resets EOS R5 overheat timer
"Math Class" on Baidu now has extensive infrared thermometer readings of the camera's mainboard with the back off, showing they correspond closely to the temperature reported in the EXIF data and don't rise above 64C. His next finding is that if you remove the internal battery it resets the so-called overheating limitations. So who is telling the truth now, Canon?
You can view the most recent findings here by the user "Math Class" (Google translated)

What I find most troubling is Canon even saying in the official "media alert" that the housing mitigates the temps and helps cool the powerful chip, yet there is no attempt whatsoever to achieve good thermal conductivity between the main CPU and the casing, no thermal pad, and PCB blocking it.
So are they lying to us?
I don't know for sure what happens in the firmware, but that raises a lot of questions, but the slam dunk to me is the internal layout. What kind of mitigation is the magnesium alloy casing in a fridge, when the camera still throws the overheat warning after no mins recorded in 8K video mode?
    It is none.
    Here's what Canon said:
"Magnesium alloy was used in the body to dissipate heat away from internal components"
And here's their PR response from the UK team to me:
"I can confirm that we have shared your comments with Canon inc. in Tokyo and investigations are ongoing regarding the points you raise."
"As you are aware, the EOS R5 is a hybrid stills and video full-frame mirrorless camera and not a dedicated video camera. We have packed a lot of technology into a compact body design to increase the range of shooting possibilities for our customers."
"There are inevitably limitations with the compact body design of the EOS R5. A wide range of factors must be considered, and a balance found between its function as a stills camera and its video capabilities. This is why we continue to offer a full line-up of video cameras from entry level to high-end cinema to meet the different requirements of the different forms of video production."
Anyone notice the up-sell at the end?

Canon really threw the kitchen sink at the EOS R5 specs sheet. What about the kitchen fridge?
Canon have stated overheating time limits for HQ video recording in a warm 23 °C room.
How does the camera perform in much colder conditions?
Does the EOS R5 still overheat in the Wifi menu in a fridge?
Or do the cold temperature help cool the camera body, which Canon claims act as mitigation for hot components inside?

So we have a range of Internal temp from 33C to 65C, with OVERHEATED! SHUTTING DOWN error at 33C but not at 65C.
And do we need to put it in the damn oven before we get a response from Canon?
