  1. @Jon Jacobs, That you´ve been shooting the GH2 professionally is a testament to you and the camera. Have you been shooting GX85 professionally? Would you

have the chance to post an example of professional work for each, the GH2 and the Gx85? I think it´s in the nature of filmmaking to appreciate the work and achievements of others.

Much talent has posted their work on vimeo to be seen by a public audience. GH2 is showing off quiete a body of work done with it. GX85 close to none so far.

HD is bad compared to G6 or GH2. Motiion cadence is murky with pans and tilts compared to my G6. Maybe my GX cam is faulty in that regard. OOC color is nice, that´s right, lowlight too.

FWIW I shot professionally with a hacked GH2 for years, mainly with the Intravenus and Moon patches, and while I certainly liked the quality of that camera's footage, the GX85 I shoot with now is a whole quality level higher across the board. I sold the GH2 after shooting some comparison tests because it wasn’t even close. Panasonic's color science has come a long way in the last few years, and once I saw what was coming OOC with the GX85 the GH2's shortcomings were thrown into stark relief. Skin tone is massively better on the GX85, especially now with the CineD hack. And shooting 4K to export as 1080p gets rid of so much noise I rarely if ever use Neatvideo anymore, while this was a necessary step for any indoor GH2 shoot. I prefer the rangefinder form factor to mini DSLR anyway but ergonomics aside I find the GX85's IQ to be so much better than even the hacked GH2’s 100+MB all-I that I haven’t regretted selling the GH2 for a moment. Everything from video to stills to workflow is better with the GX85.

I own a GX85 myself and OOC color is much better than from my G6.

Still, so much awesome GH2 footage and many great looking shorts on vimeo, but only very few pretty clips with the GX85, no shortfilms so far.

    And, GX85 has underwhelming HD.

I shot another video with the GH5 and SLR Magic 50mm 2x anamorphic prime. Calling it Chicago II. Here is one frame that is my favorite.

Aaron, enough of these. This is your second post with awesome screenshots within one week. And again no moving images. How can you do this to us?

When will you be showing us some of that kewl footage? :)

  4. Hey Glenn, I found this guy who might know a bit about camera testing. Always with a grain of salt though:

@KarimNassar, who did the awesome footage above, might still remember a deal about the GH2.

By the way, this video of yours looks awesome. Red Epic, anybody? :)

Quoting myself:) This video of yours looks like you shot it with a RED Epic. I forgot to put the link in my post above.

Awesome image you squeezed out of the Samsung cam!

  6.

Holy cow, rewatching the Concrete Island piece from Michael Mills. At 36 seconds- epic shot. Movement within the frame, framing, geometry, light, location. Perfect! And how generous these afficiandos have been on background info, like on this one:

Olympus 17mm F1.8 coupled with the AG-LA7200 anamorphic adapter.
    Camera: GH2 (1080p24, Dynamic B&W Film Mode)
    Additional filters: Black Pro-Mist 1/4, Red 1 (25)

Looking epic, this epic GH2. Check out Andrew Reids GH2 stuff, no ugly muddy LUTs, just nice study of composition, light and movement and lens choice.

  7.

Glenn, I read only the best stuff about the Minolta 35- 70 3.5 Macro, the third version of the 35 70. That might also be a super cool lens speedboosted.

I got my 12mm SLR magic now. It´s the first version, the F1.6 one, not the T1.6 version. It has the focus wheel close to the lens mount.

At f2.8 it´s reasonably sharp, popping at F4. 1.6 very gloomy, 2.0 already better, half way between 2 and 2.8 not too bad.

It´s a fun lens. But boy, it is a beast when it comes to handling movement and geometry and speed of movement. Not easy to master without a tripod.

GX85 stabilization does not dampen cheesy camera work. 12mm length is unforgiving when it comes to movement.

All in all a great lens, but version 1 is not a resolution wonder above 2.8. Would put it in the same category as Walimex 24mm 1.4. resolution wise.

Mechanically it is a joy to use. For handheld shooting the position of the focus ring is also nice ergonomically. All in all a winner for the 190 EUR I paid.

Very happy! It´s a beauty on my GX85! With practice the right lens for awesome camera work.

I think these GH1 and GH2 pioneers put a lot of art and craft into the creation of every frame.

Like going by Tony Zhous motto "every frame a painting", they have been following the route "every frame a stills photograph".

Check out Michael Mills´s GH2 pieces and vignettes of art. Quality ratio of GH2 and GH1 and 5DII on vimeo is very high.

I would. I really don't need someone to tell me that. The stuff I want is the boring but non-obvious that takes hours to learn by experimentation but a minute if you find the right information. In video, both 180 rules are good examples. And the information I've picked up about trying to manual focus my AF stills lenses.

Oh, Japan - why dost thous provoke my desire but refuse it's fulfilment? This is Season 2 of PASWG all over again...

However, I can see at least two ways around this that I want to try

    1. Just shoot with cuts that don't need changes in focus; limiting, but it must work and I don't have to buy extra lenses

    2. Shoot with dof to spare, use back button focus and a dfd lens and keep hitting the back button - it won't be perfect but it might keep me happy for now

..I had stills shoots set up for today and more tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to play with this until next week. Now to work out how to get my cat to cooperate...

Now you have all the things on the table to rock your GX85. You have shown readers of the forum a nice deal of your own knowledge.

Is the GX85 your first DSLR/DSLM for shooting video? If so, great camera to start with!

  10. @Nicholson Ruiz Hey Nicholson! I like the flow of your video and the three settings. I wouldnt worry about matching the looks as they occur

on the three different locations. Only thing, if nitpicking, a very few changes/cuts between locations seem not hundred percent perfect, maybe due

to a free and flowing approach. Very nice video, locations, talent in front of the camera, nothing to worry about matching the two cams, I must say.

By the way, this video of yours looks awesome. Red Epic, anybody? :)

incredible ! There is a nice soft filmic rendering to these c mount lenses that has me curious about them. These panasonic bodies has a unique quality to em @PannySVHS

Totally. It´s a certain shooting style these cmounts go along well with. A nice 25mm cmount lens seems to be a must for any m43 lens lover.

The artist of this piece has also really nailed it shooting wise.

  12. @kidzrevil, what are you doing! Now I am starting to lust for these Nikon lenses!:) I really think your footage in portrait mode has awesome colors.

What settings were you using? Is this out of cam? Looking natural, cinematic, looking boss!

  13. Nice edit and footage. So the Nocti is the pricey but exellent 42.5mm 1.2 Pana Leica lens? I couldnt hear your voice well, due to the louder background music.

Footage of the racing track and the racing kid looks especially nice. The framing on the womans face put her eyebrows and her lips too close towards

the upper and lower edges, in my opinion.  Nice achievement and showcase for your lens combos and GH5s image quality.

  14. Hey Kidz! Just keep the different image circles in mind. Tevidons above 16mm should be fine, the 10 and 16mm are tricky for the G85, as I´ve been posting a few days

ago in this thread. Glenns Fujinon 12.5mm seems one of the nicest lens gems in C-mount. I am glad he shared his knowledge about it on this forum. For the Tevidons

I wouldnt pay more than 100 USD though, as some sellers really push the prices too much. I paid around 30USD for my Tevidon 16mm 1.8, which is still waiting for

an adapter. Tevidons need a special Tevidon to either cmount or m43 adapter.

If you don't mind vintage, Pentax and Minolta both made 24-50mm zoom that are pretty good, but they're slow at a constant f/4. I have an old Tokina 24-40mm f/2.8 I like a lot.

@meanwhile with GX85, manual focus is the best. AF does not compare to the AF beasts for video.

Mercer also owns a Tokina 25-50 F4, which is my favorite lens for handheld shooting and manual focussing

without focussing gear. Couple this bargain lens with a cheap focal reducer and you have a nice lens with 2.8 light gathering and S35 cinema standard image and

exellent ergos for manual handheld shooting. Add a small cage later on, once you can find one for cheap. I got a "Rolleiflex 4K" cage for around 40USD. Usually they

    range around 200 bucks.

Another favorite of mine is the Canon FD 28mm F2.8 in combination with a cheap focal reducer, bargain quality lens. Maybe still my number one.

The EVF on the GX85 is not nice on the shooters eyes, so one would depend on the LCD.

Shoot that little guy in 4K, because the HD is not as nice as it used to be with the Panasonic Lumix cams.

  16. Hallo Teemu, one thing ahead: your other video is really dope. My compliments. This is one to me seems a little loose on the narrative string, different locations, moods,

visual styles, some of them very nicely done indeed, but to me they are not seemlessly fitting with one another. The Teaser shot is gorgeous and so is

your other video. My two cents.

Idk, I think Mr. Netflix may tell me, "Hey Kid, if only your not horrible movie had pretty dames like Marty's movies, you may have something, see." Think bad Edward G. Robinson impression.

Glenn, you made me check out Edward G. Robinsion. Nice find! That Netflix mogul in Edward G. Robinson impression is a great idea for a little scene itself! :)

  18. @jcs and @HockeyFan12, you guys confuse me. Maybe it´s my lackful English. Maybe it is your English, you guys are able to express all

this knowledge with. Will try to understand that interesting stuff some day. Astonishing! Wow! :)

@mercer Glenn, Mr. Netflix might reply: If your GH5 only had Olympus colors, I´d give you green light for your not horrible film, that you pitched

    oh so well:)

Right, a 2.8... Duh. That's even better actually. Pretty cool feature.

That Azure lens has some funky flares. Real sharp too. If only the BMPCC had IBIS.

Or if only the GH5 had the price of a BMPCC :)

Whoa, why haven't I heard of this crop... Are you trying to spend my money for me, Marty?

Does the crop work in 4K 60p as well?

So it becomes a 3.4x crop? Man the Kern 10mm would be a wicked little lens.

No, no, not spending your money my friend!:) It becomes a 2x1.4=2.8 crop like the one on the BMPCC.

If the Kern works well on the the BMPCC it would with the 4K 1.4 crop of the GH5. This mode is called 4K Extra Tele alias EX Tele mode.

    http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/03/28/gh5-extra-tele-conversion/

Keep your money in your pockets, under your pillow, how would I know where!:)

Btw, this little bad boy works nicely on the pocket. Looking pretty sharp to me:

I think he is targeting Netflix for making a hard + fast rule of 4K camera acquisition only. It's easy to say 4K is top quality for a consumer, but that is only a fraction of the variables. It's much easier than advertising "Shot with Arri Master Prime" or "Shot with Cooke Speed Panchro but mastered in 6K so it all equals out".

    Good one!:)

  22. Great thing about s16 lenses is they would love the 1.4 crop mode of the GH5, which is still 4K and should give pixel perfect downscaled HD.

Makes the GH5 a nice stabilized s16 cinema camera, the GHMCC, GHMagicCinemaCamera:)

That's very cool.  I hope you get to shoot that script. I mean you couldn't ask for a better location.

That´s right. It´s going to be shot at the end of August. It´s gonna be a fun experience. This time with usable dialogue sound, though not in English:)

My bet for your camera would be: A6000 or G85 or EM10 II. Oly EM10 II has the 72mbps ALL Intra, has 3 axis IBIS, does not have Flat profile.

For the Oly 5 n 10 II, do they have mic input? All in all the Olys seem pricey, but your choice by heart. So, maybe Oly E M10 II could be it, if

audio and battery solution is nice.

EDIT: Hoppla, thought you meant my lil project, conceided me. But of course, hopin too that Mattias gets to shoot his film.

Sorry about the mistake at the beginning of my post. :)
