Thanks Marty, I saw that video but he doesn't have any samples with the 16mm, so I was unsure if there is coverage. I letterbox everything anyway, so even some dark corners will usually work for my tastes. The Fujinon 12.5mm f/1.4 does indeed fully cover the 4K frame with the G7, GX85, so I assume it works with the GH4 and G85 as well, but I doubt it will with the GH5. With the GX85, due to the IBIS, you can see some sensor blackout, on the sides of the frame, if you pan too fast. Here's a link to the one I have...

Hey Glenn, thank you for posting that link! That´s a lens I´ve been thinking about for quiete a while now. I just purchased a SLR Magic 12mm so I should be happy.

But still wanna try this lens out some day.

About the Tevidon 16mm check this out, cropping into m43 and still creeping into UHD a little bit at F1.8, perfect for BMPCC though:

    http://lenscraze.blogspot.de/2015/05/tevidon-16-1-8.html

I have the Tevidon 16 but need to purchase an adapter for it some time, actually two adapters, one from tevidon to cmount plus a cmount adapter.

Probably a very stupid question, but will ask anyway:

This weekend, I am forced to shoot in lowlight with the samyang f3.5 fisheye. Will I get lower noise if I film in 4k and downscale later on to 1080p, or should I go directly for 1080p (same fps)?

Hallo Jase, I would go for the 4K. It crops a little bit off of that fishey effect too:)

The downscaled 4K is a  much better image than the internal 1080p, which is not close to the very nice HD quality in the GHs, G6 and G7 cameras.

So overall image should be better.

Why don´t you do a quick test in the basement? Shouldnt take more than 15mins. I don´t mean to be a smartass, but that would give

you 1st hand info, as lowlight with a 3.5 lens might deserve a special test due to the various variables it accounts to.

Not with full pixel readout, no way, not in a year. Unless it's a native 1080p (2MP) sensor. I think we'd be lucky to see continuous clean(full pixel readout) 120p in the next year. Aren't the RX cams doing some sort of binning in 120p mode?

with clean 4K 60p the GH5 should be able to give us pixel perfect 120fps in HD. Unfortunately it doesn´t. Perfect HD up to 60p, still nice up to 75fps HFR mode, from

there on it´s not getting better:

They are expensive to service, and build isn't ideal. Optically though, they are extraordinary. If I recall, at least some are copies of old arri/Zeiss designs from that era, and provide an incredible look for the money.

@richg101 and/or @andy lee would be the best resources on the subject, as their lens knowledge puts mine to absolute shame.

Andy Lee has been too busy unfortunately to share some of his great findings about lenses lately. Would be awesome, if Rich could chime in on this topic and

the case of maintaining and servicing Lomo Cine optics. So, @richg101, @andy lee, calling you a second time in this thread.

By the way, Andy, any teaser footage of your film "Pandora"?

I was getting full coverage with a 12.5mm Fujinon on the G7 and GX85.

That legendary "mercers 12.5mm Fujinon"! No need for me to hunt for it anymore, since I bought the SLRMagic 12mm. Or am I at the beginning of a 12mm GAS now?:)

I found different lenses of a Fujinon 12.5mm lens on ebay, some made in China, some in Bangladesh, looking pretty different from one another.

Could you post a link to the right version? I remember you wrote that optical quality is very good. Do you still have it? If so, I would definately support your

choice of a MFT camera as your second cam. :)

Yes, I think the 25mm will. The 16mm may as well, but I can't say for certain. I know 1" c-mount will have more wide angle coverage. I was getting full coverage with a 12.5mm Fujinon on the G7 and GX85.

This video gives a good idea regarding Tevidon lenses and their coverage of m43 image circle. The 25mm looking pretty good, the 16mm not fully covering:

@gethin I'm not disagreeing at all with @Orangenz, but is it the GX85 that is holding you back from making that feature film or whatever it is you're working on? Because for two grand, you could get yourself a whole lot of gear: a nice motorized slider, a single handed brushless gimbal stabilizer, a decent microphone, and an HD monitor, as well as some LED lights - equipment that you could use for years to come and which will increase your production value far more than the latest and greatest camera, which you'll probably upgrade in a couple of years down the road anyhow. Out of curiosity, what are the issues you're having with grading footage from the camera you already own?

    I second that completely!

Thanks for the comments. Taking lens is 50mm 2.8 russian macro lens. Really love that lens. Volna-9 is the lens.

Really nice flares, bokeh, colors. Everything is just something that I really like on this lens.

It has also special aperture charracter between f5.6-f8, it's star shape.

    PS.

Still late with the realease. Video has been ready for almost a month now... Still waiting the band to officially release the video.

Awesome look! Keep us posted about the video!

  8. Hey @kidzrevil and you other kids!:)

I know we are all grownups, so no offense, but when it comes to lenses we are all kids:)

The 10mm Tevidon does not cover full m43 image circle. It covers s16 when cropped from top and down to 1:2.35 ration.

The 25mm covers even full m43 sensor though with only the slightest darkening of corners as this video shows:

Also, Tevidon seekers might wanna check out these two articles, giving a well rounded look into the odd characteristics of Tevidon lenses, at least when it comes to the 10mm and the 16mm. I own the 16mm but don´t have an adapter yet. Charateristics regarding uneven focussing plane, and soft wide shots are to considered when going for the 10 and 16mm Tevidons. And, don´t pay more than 150 USD please, better not more than 80! So here are the nice reads about Tevidon character for the 10 and 16 mills.

I'm narrowing down my choices for a 2nd camera. Right now, it's between two cameras... e-m5 Mark ii or the A7ii. I have decided I definitely want some form of IBIS and I have really enjoyed the humble images coming from both of these cameras. The second cam will be used for casual, family videos and the occasional micro short film and these two cameras seem like capable underdogs and that intrigues me a lot.

Glenn, my vote would be E M5 II plus slr magic 17mm 1.6, if you can get the lens for around 300. Or the G85, which has nice colors too and classic Panasonic 1080p besides its obvious UHD mode. G85 might be the same price as the EM5II. So, unless you assume some better color magic, you might go for the G85. Though Oly color seems tempting. Panny IPB codec with 24mbps for 24p HD holds up pretty well too. A7 video looks gruesome:) Weak codec and aliasing nightmare. A7II might be interesting with its 50mbps codec, still not cheap though. Or maybe consider the A6000 instead of that, which can be found for 400USD and has a gotten an update for 50mbit codec. Check out Matt Kieleys A6000 birthday vid, not only a beautiful shortfilm but also showcase for A6000 colors and HD image.

Thanks. The settings I've been using with CInelikeD are Contrast 0, -5 Sharpness, -5 NR, -2 Saturation. Graded with Lumetri (with Fuji 250D preset) in Premiere Pro CC. I love the 12-35, but it might be a little too expensive to keep, so the lens you suggested seems intriguing. I'm also looking at the Tamron 17-50mm, and the Canon TV-16 25-100mm c-mount zoom, although it's apparently really large and heavy and needs extra support.

Now that Canon sounds interesting for quick scenic projects. Does it cover full m43 sensor? cheers

Does anyone know how much the SLR Magic 17mm lens for the BMPCC will vignette on regular 2X crop M4/3 cameras? If not much, will a 2:35 letterbox cover the vignette?

I only read about the regular SLR Magic 17mm T1.6, a regular M43 lens, covering m43 sensor. Didnt know there was a special one for the BMPCC.

This is the lens I read about:

    http://www.thephoblographer.com/2014/02/03/review-slrmagic-17mm-t1-6-micro-four-thirds/

An interesting lens for shooting letterboxed 1:2.35 with the BMPCC is the Mir 11m:

  11. Yes, yes, yaw. Thanks to Seb Farges and his awesome videos I got myself an awesome SLR Magic 12mm T1.6 now! Yeeehaw!

@jonpais, now we can do a battle of the 12mills. Oly 12mm 2.0 anyone?:) I am so happy, my first native lens in two years.

My list now: classic 14-45mm, Panny 20mm 1.7, Oly 45 1.8 and soon in my hands SLR Magic. Magic! :)

I finished watching all of his videos and followed him immediately. what a nice vibe. would love to achieve such a thing.

Nice vibe, really! One of the nice vibes masters is Seb Farges.

  12.

Love that lens more than the 24-40. It is lighter, ergonomics are close to perfect with a small cam like my GX85. Optically I think they are of same quality when

it comes to resolution. The 24-40 has a beautiful heft, which is also beautiful to hold on to. For the 25-50 I paid only 15bucks, with postage plus an extra

defect Sigma Zoommaster 35-70 2.8-3.5. Great bargain. Love the math behind it: 25x2 makes 50, great focal lenghts to have in one lens.

Dunno, just like that lens a lot. It is a flare giant though. Would love to test the Rokkor 24-50 F4. That is not a bargain lens though.

Would love to have a 25-75, there is none.

What mount is your 25 50? Mountable on your 5D Mark III? Supercool range on that one for Fullframe RAW video?

Please get that combo on, some day, Glenn!! Back to the thread now:)

  13. Hallo Glenn, there was a Firmware update for HD 10bit 24p and 60p in April, 100mbit Long GOP, which should be a very, very fine codec.

This is awesome, since the HD is pixel perfect Canon Cinema level up to 60p.

HD from GX80 suffers Aliasing and Moire and has not the resolution of the G6. Bitrate is same, codec seemingly so. Downsampling from the sensor cannot be the same.

Well I got two Oly cameras, a Pen EPL1 and a EP2. Should change my alias to PannySVHSpen:)

Oly was always JPEG king before Fuji took the crown. I am scared of Panny Jpegs:) So EM5II seems a fun option. They still go for the same price as a G80 on the used market.

By the way. G6 is really an awesome cam. Graded, it is the best image for the money and it is the best usablitiy for the money.

I have convinced three people in the last two years to buy one:)

I also like the feel of the body much better than from the G7. Have the G7 for four months now and have not filmed a single thing

other than a CineD test for dynamic range testing. The G7s HD looks to be even better than from the G6 resolution wise. Saw a test

on youtube comparing HD and the EX Tele modes..

Still, G6 ist the queen, Gh2 the legend, Gh4 the shining prince, GH3 the lost son and GH5 the king. G7 the beautiful princess,

G85 the spectacular princess, GX85 the dandy niece princess. And GH1 the originator, Little Richard the Great. :)

  14. Hey Matt, pace and interviews and overall experience are nice. Gives me a nice artsfair vibe. Sometimes the harshness of the 12- 35 came through and

some of the shakiness. I think a more moderate wide angle would be more tasty than a 12mm.

I think the perfect setup would be a G85 with a China speedbooster and a Tokina 25-50mm F4. That also gives a nice mechanical control ring to the manual zoom.

Did you turn sharpness all down to -5 on CineD?

  15.

Cool! Gonna watch more of their videos. It´s a fun thing because of the BTS knowledge you´ve been giving to all of us here on EOSHD.

That makes watching even more worthwhile regarding a learning effect. Great stuff. Fuzzynormal of EOSHD is also a shooter who makes these small

cameras shine in a very elegant and seemingly effortless manner. Art of Zen. Thanks for showing!

Slider, no curve tracks then. You must be a wizzard of optical illusion then :)

At the time I had the Minolta MD 28mm f2 and the Nikkor ai-s 28mm f2. Since going with the 5D3, I sold the Minolta. It was a heart wrenching sale, but I lack a camera to use it with so it helped to offset the cost of the Canon EF 35mm f2.

Don´t make me buy those! Darn!:)

  17. @cantsin, good question. I doubt there is a cheap good 24mm f2.0 lens. The Walimex 24mm 1.4 is not there, starts being sharp from 2.8 on, Fstop 1.4 for distant shots is

miserable with it. For photo work the Oly 1.2 might be hard to beat in the 17mm m43 realm.

For that money though I´d rather get a GH5 plus a SLR magic 12mm 1.6 and use its 1.4 crop for 4K Extele mode, making it like a 17mm lens on full frame M43.

    Full frame M43 sounds funky:)

  18.

    Hey Oliver,

great topic. Thanks for posting. I don´t use luts on REC709 footage, which I´ve mostly been shooting so far other than some FS700 8bit SLOG tests.

The only ones I used with success are from Juan Melara, his free Kodak and Fuji Print Luts. Some interesting results can be achieved.

But after two or three months I started to grade all my footage by hand. More reliable workflow with much better control and achieving better results regarding the final look.

Here is my latest example of 8bit REC709 footage, shot with the kewl and always fresh Panny G6:)

By the way, Oliver, we would love to see more of your awesome work in context with the cameras you shot them with.

I think you could give great BTS glimpses into the trickery of small cam big result magic! :) Well here my latest shot and hand graded piece:

I had that lens for a second or two. I liked it, but I already had two 28mm f2 lenses so it seemed kinda redundant.

How could you let it go? It´s a Zuiko!:) What two 28mm f2s do you have? Had a Kiron Kino f2, which performed astonishingly poor unfortunately for my

taste. Though it was in perfect condition, like brand new.

Well, couldnt resist. I must post another Seb video. This time the legendary 12mm. Will be my next lens and a native one after a long time again.

So here it goes, 12mm slr magic from the king of lens tests:

  20.

Great looking footage, Matt! That G7 and 12-35 combo is lookin great. So you used a curved dolly track filming on the wide end of 12mm? Looking exellent.

I think you make every camera shine with your lighting and set up of a scene. Great work! Did you shoot more for hecticfilms? cheers

  21. You lucky!:) I won and bought an Olympus Zuiko 28mm F2.0. Hope to get to test it soon. Need to buy another adpater. It´s just not fun to buy adapters as it is with buying lenses. cheers :)
