Lovely writeup, video and edit. @kye Lenscap lens, now that's an idea I like for the GM5. But I was going to sell it or was I?:) I still got an old Oly Epl1  with that super lowres and dim screen. Now that would be a great prospect for the lenscap. It's built like a tank and AF is the worst of any mft camera.:)

Tokina 28-85 F4 is a heavy baddy, if that's what you are looking for.:) I have never used mine on an actual shoot.

GF3, with that 12MP sensor from the GF1 days is a harsh higlights specialist camera. Respect for giving love to this novelty.:) @kye

Yes, the CZJ 40 has a nice rendering. I would love to try it on a S16 sensor size photo camera like the Nikon 1 series since it's a 16mm lens. But then I like the FOV of the 40 on mft. So I will keep enjoying it that way. Using and enjoying a lens is what it's about after all.:)

The comparison was great. I was thinking you focused on the leave behind the first one. Anyway, 2x crop in 4K mode looks like a great, even downsampled FHD image.

I have the Fuji 12.5 F1.4. Your Cosmicar looks like it's outresolving my lens quiet a bit. The Fuji is still a nice lens though with a very solid build and delivering a beautiful image.

I think GX85 design is great and I would shock you with a bigger grip if I was a Panny engineer. Stay strong! 🙂 @eatstoomuchjam

GX line supports its elegent GM silbings, so both to be continued in 10bit alterations of their predecessors.:) @eatstoomuchjam

Another fun loving fellow having fun using this camera. I put subtitles on for second viewing.:) Still goofy.

40mil CZJ 16mm lens and GX85, jpeg from raw file. A 40mil S16 lens would have covered the sensor without vignetting I am sure. But despite it's vignette I love the image I am getting out of this, super sharp in the centre and great colors in the raw files. It's tiny and pretty looking on my GX85.

I will be happy to use it on my Eos M hopefully or with my two Dslrs. I just like the fact that Magic Lantern is around. What is your favorite personal camera for video and photo? @stephen I like too many cameras but GX85 would be my recent pick. I enjoyed my Bmpcc last summer and the one before, the latter not for stills of course though I wouldnt mind to print out some 1080p stills enlarged for A4 format. My S1H did the occasional video and photo gig but is collecting dust at the moment.

Last and third last are my favorites! @kye The Canon nFD 28mm F2.8 would be my pick of a best bang for buck lens. I have posted about a couple times here and it is not a mystery lens by any means but it's still sort of an undertestimted lens imo. I bought mine ten years ago for 20EU and last time I checked, they still went for around 30EU. My sample is almost as high resolving wide open on a China speedbooster as my 20mm F1.7 at 2m distance. It still has a creamy and very pleasing look and looks also fantastic on my S1H. Perfect lens for mft, S35 and FF sensor gates.

From what I've seen and comparing to my own 10bit footage, Magic Lantern Raw on Eos M and 5DII/ III looks magical under natural light despite less dynamic range and much less resolution. So I am exited about any news from ML. I am referring to the pure joy for the image. It is not an observation in regards to full time content production.

No, no, no! @eatstoomuchjam No 10bit GM5 flimsyness but a solid and small 10bit GX85 body. Thank you, Panasonic!:) GM5 feels hollow and viewfinder is very tiny. Sorry, but no! 10bit GX, yes please.:)

@stephenDoesn't the 5DIII allow liveview on the screen, just like the EOS M?

2x crop looks great. One thing caught my critical eye:) The 2.08x on your second setup looks to be higher resolving than the 25mm focal length on the 12-35. First setup with the darker exposure looks like to be expected. Did the stills get mixed up for the second setup? Anyway, downsampled 2.7K for 1080p is awesome for 2/3" lovers or for using a prime with an internal 2x tc. Great news. Thank you very much for your tests, findings and great effort!

By the way, your Cosmicar looks like it is outperforming the 12-35 for 1.4x and 1.5x gate. Impressive.

Thank you for the offer, as stills would be nice as always, though your findings are already impressive enough, as always.:) The GH7 is looking very tempting indeed. Is an exact 1.4 4K crop possible, giving S16 width? I am asking because I figured it would be more, around 1.5, due to the 25MP sensor vs 20MP on the GH5. Is the 2x crop as nice as you found it to be on the GH5? One last question, is Punch-In during recording high resolving enough and a sufficient aid for manual focussing during recording? @John Matthews I dearly remember that thread. It's one of my abolute favourite ones! Legendary! Yesterday I went taking pictures again with my GX85, coupled with a 40mm S16 lens. One pretty looking outfit, itself worth of getting a picture taken. Panny better brings out a 10bit successor in a very similar or same body. Tilt screen is perfect on this one. And so would be 749EU!:)

My second GX85 has arrived yesterday. It feels like new. I'll sell the 12-32mm, since I'm owning two of them now. Great deal for a great camera. I still got my first one, which I bought eight years ago thanks to a great thread on this forum. I should let the GM5 go, since the faux orange rubber coating is kinda too cute to stress test it when using the camera for photography. I might give it a photo tour before departing from it. Decisions.:)

That sounds great, coming from a og pocket and Bmmcc afficiando like you! @kye How is sharpness on the GH7, artificial looking or natural? What about punchin focussing during recording? Does the camera offer a 2x crop mode with good codecs and quality for some b3/4 goodness? True S16 mode or 16, 2.87 vs 3x? More questions to come.:) Thanks!😊

Hehe, I got lucky paying 250 for mine with the 12-32 and a Lumix bag. These bags are highly fashionable in certain groups of clumsy professor photographers.:) The combo usually goes for 350 with the lens. I got my first one eight years ago and paid around 430 for the body. It's still going strong, even without the backwheel which quit on me a few years ago. My favorite lens with it for photo is the 14mm pancake. I also liked using my Oly 45. But it's silver and kinda shiny for street. Planning on getting the Panny 42.5 F1.7. I also got a G3, a cute and small but solid plastic fantastic Dslm style camera. It's the dslrish sister to the GX1. The latter also going for higher prices than a few years ago. GX85 is the best of them all imo for a variety of reasons. 4K video is still great for being 8bit and Rec709. But you know that of course. @John Matthews I just had to get my second one for that nice price and I am looking forward to do a photo tour with two cameras and lenses.

I bought myself a second GX85. It will hopefully arrive this week. Comes with the 12-32, which I already own and enjoyed using for some test clips with the og pocket. I think I should let go my GM5, as it was more an object of desire than being a practical artists tool for me.

What do you guys think? Prices are pretty nice and high for these at the moment. Mine is orange and in a very good shape. Much usage would rub the faux leather off I think.

I love the subtle color grade @kye Great results with your GX85 cinema beast.:) Btw I really love the colors of the GX' raw files when taking photos . This camera is perfect for street and to carry along. Anyway, how is Prores on the GH7?:) Any nasty artefacts? Awesome to hear and read about your findings with this exciting camera, Kye!

Lumix S line prices are rising again on the used market. Vintage and quirky Mft cameras too. I got an orange GM5 with a 12-32 lens and two batteries for a good price two years ago, with the box, everything in great condition except the leather case. They cost up to three times as much now of what I paid two years ago! Here it is, a flimsy beauty, a tiny S9 minus 4K 10bit, but with evf, mechanical shutter and hotshoe:)

It's a broken record playing, but it's always playing when I am thinking about the S9. Panny, please give us pancake primes and zooms, a successor with S1 quality Evf,  mechanical shutter and hotshoe. Full size hdmi would be nice too. Matt Frazer, can you hear us!:)

Anyone using an A7IV, how is battery life, overheating, S35 readout and 4K quality, codec and noise characteristics at lowlight and higher Isos?

S1II has flagship specs and a mid tier body, selling for a flagship price. So it seems okish, wheras the og S1 and S5 felt like bargains back then.

It will be interesting to see if used cameras like Lumix S line will rise in reaction to the higher priced new models.

Darn. They really work hard to make this camera look bad with their color grading and uninspiring filming. Cinealta F3 amateur work looks stellar on the other hand. Tells us a lot about the shooter and the camera. Whereas none of the S1II videos I've watched so far show me much about its image quality. Tells us nothing about the camera but everything about the shooter. Maybe watching cammacky will give some insight. But that guy sells every camera equally well.

I just saw a video with the S1II, shot for a big review site. It was a rather lazy display of cinematography, in concept and realisation. Shouldn't working for a huge review site be rather inspiring for the tester to do the cameras justice when using it in the field! They don't make it easy for us to want to buy a camera. Good!:)

Nikon Z6III for 2100 Eur new, now that is a whole lotta camera for that price! Maybe there are some convincing comparison videos between Z6III and S1II with convincing video work. Names are both kinda equally meh.:)

1:1 crop mode on the GH7 would be one of best right now for using S16 or Super 8 lenses.  You'd still have decent resolution and probably not be at 720p or less.

S16 gate on the S1II would be around 2100 x 1250px, considering a 2.88 crop factor and a 1.66 aspect ratio. That's not too bad, better than the og pocket. Mft sized gate would sport around 3000px in width.
