Grimor reacted to currensheldon in SONY FX3 new camera to be announced
It does seem a tad strange. unless the guy above is wrong and it has internal variable ND - then the camera instantly becomes very, very intriguing, especially if the IBIS rumor is true. But Sony has said before that having both IBIS and ND is nearly impossible, so I'd guess it will be one or the other.
However, I'd say the A7sIII is the lazy inclusion if the FX3 is true because this, IMO, is a way more thought-out and useful video camera than the A7sIII. Love the dedicated buttons for WB, ISO, etc. Love the mounting points. Love how they did the top handle. Love that it is cinema focused and probably has the same color and S-Cinetone like the FX6. Love that it looks like the screen can tilt while staying center to the body. Love that it has focus magnification (does the A7sIII do this while recording?). I just love it.
I've shat on Sony for many years because I did think the color and IQ of the A7sII, FS5, and (to less of a degree) FS7 was way behind the competition. BUT, I must say the FX9 and FX6 do seem to look much, much better.
In my experience, every FS7/FX9/FX6/C300/EVA1/etc owner has a second B-Cam that is often a mirrorless for gimbal shots, 2nd interview shots, and as a backup camera. But no camera manufacturer has given them a TRUE b-cam (same sensor size, same mount, same color, same IQ, same general usability, etc). Canon has the C70, but still a bit too big for what I'm talking about and is the only Canon cinema camera with the RF Mount. Panasonic has the S1H, but it doesn't have an L-Mount A-Cam.
But THIS Sony FX3 is nearly perfect, it seems. Along with ND, the other big inclusion needed is timecode. If you can jam this with FX9/FX6/audio and just have it on standby on a gimbal or a drone or wherever you need it, that would be so, so nice.

Stills are a good supplement to Photography, a replacement.... maybe for those who don't need a full Photograpjy service.
How do you accommodate Flash into video stills or shooting vertical.  There is an art to Photography that stills from video can't duplicate.
That said, I offer video stills as part of my Wedding Services.  However I always make it clear that it a service that is not a replacement for Photography.

Go to video -> Sound -> audio setting -> PCM Recorder Link -> Camera REC volume. You need to have it set to "disabled". Now there's no more hiss, but you need to have your external recorder connected to the mic input as it is now the preamp and the camera does nothing (except record the audio it receives). Took me forever to figure this out. I thought someone might be interested.

Are you recording external and iternal mic at the same time? In this case you need a 3'5mm stereo female jack, with inner swicht (normally closed) that disconnect inner mic when Jack is plugged.

Well, that's a matter of opinion, as you say.

I think it makes sense and anyone who's worked in broadcast can instantly pick up one of these (or an FX9 or FS7), start shooting, and find most of the controls they're used to. Apart from setting the right res/codec for the project or formatting cards, you can often get through an entire days shooting without ever needing to enter the menu's with these cameras. And usually you can find the button you need without even looking.

You literally push one button. The video you linked shows you how to change your S&Q settings, but once that's done, it's a single push of a button to get into slow-motion mode.

It will be far from "less cluttered" once you have 2x xlr cables (+ adapters to full-size), headphones and HDMI cable coming out of the side with all those little rubber doors dangling around. Not everyone will need that, but it's just as easy to criticise the C70 design as the FX6 (even more so in this regard). The FX6 has the ports right where you need them on a set - on the dumb side. It even has the ports recessed enough so that you can avoid obstructions when using a battery plate.

Unless you need to shoot any high or low angles, or on a shoulder mount, and can't use the non-rotating handle. In that situation you have exactly 0 nice dials.  FX6/FS7/FS5 style handle is very versatile and convenient.

Fair point, in some cases. But if you're stripping the camera down, say to shoot on a gimbal or to mount it in a car, are you really going to want audio in-camera? All those cables/mics/receivers would just get in the way and go against what you're trying to achieve. You'd probably be recording externally anyway. A deal-breaker for some, (eg if you MUST have in-cam audio on gimbal), but for most it's a problem that is easily solved when it arises.

This comment shows just how out of touch you are with most people who will actually use a camera like the FX6.

The reason people will build a rig is to improve ergonomics (for their particular preferences) and reduce fatigue. It also lets them use all the tools they'll need when they work in a crew with a 1AC, soundo, director, etc. It lets them go from tripod to handheld to shoulder faster. It lets them put the shoulder mount and top handle directly in line with the COG for perfect balance. It lets them put the camera down on unbalanced surfaces without getting damaged or falling over. It lets them power everything from a single battery. It also gives the camera more mass which reduces shake and gives a more natural feel to the images (and if done right, makes it easier to balance and operate too).

The only people building rigs to impress other people are those who care more about THEIR image than THE image.

Again, we're all entitled to opinions. But you're also making pretty outlandish statements that show how much understanding you lack about this product and the people who will use them.

It's the equivalent about me writing an article claiming the Isuzu N series is a "monstrosity of stupid design" because it doesn't fit into the average household garage.

    Hallo dear friends,
I wish you all happy holidays! This is a music video from a winter short we did this summer, which I dped with a friend of mine.
A charming journey of roughed up singer Stella who is rushing through the city on Christmas eve, with Schmalz and Pathos of German Schlager music.
I wish you all a peaceful time. It is family and friends we find most comfort in. But also some campy fun and vintage lenses in these harsh times. Lens used with my S1 is a beautiful and cheap Unitor (Soligor, Hanimex) 35-70 2.5-3.5.  C300 performed with conventional Walimex lenses. Love from Germany. Stay save, dear friends! best, Marty
