I'm excited, but I would've been much more excited if it had been an A7SIII with eND instead of IBIS. *shrug* Still very interesting depending on the details. I think there's room for an FX4 in the lineup now. Take the guts of the A1 and add e-ND instead of IBIS, add SDI and in-camera raw, and call it a day.

tyger11 reacted to BTM_Pix in Development Update - AFX Focus Module For PBC
It will auto focus to closest point in the central area.
You control the switch between AF and manual modes with a trigger on the controller.
So you can be manually focused and then press the trigger and it will engage the AF.
In AF-S mode it will then not re-adjust until you press the trigger again so you can just use it to get and initial lock and then manually adjust from there or you can switch to AF-C mode where it will constantly re-focus on whatever is in the central area.
The QuadLock system lets you set four different focus points in the scene either manually or using  AF-S and then switch between them with adjustable transition time.
QuadLock also has an additional function where you set one of the previously stored points as a target and then manually focus and it will automatically stop when you reach the target focus position ensuring that you do not overshoot.
It will work with those cameras with manual focus lenses but it will obviously not do any of the camera parameter control and motorless operations that the BM cameras can use.
The core AFX module does not support eye or body AF.
But the next add on module for it does.

As ludicrous as it sound to the West, that's the way things are run in Japan since the XIX century, at least.
The collective beats the individual. Not so in the West, where it's exactly the opposite.

Can we call it a fullframe GH5? Or is it missing some other pro things? It has 10 bit, 60p, timecode, LUT assist, waveforms... teleconversion modes too!
Size is in the Z6, a7iii, R6 range. But (much) better video features. Except AF of course...

Price will be important, as will availability of more affordable native glass. The new zoom is a good start. Now some compact F1.8 or F2 primes would be welcome.

Well... if they release this lower-end camera, then they better start releasing their less expensive (f/1.8) lenses to go along with it.
I don't know which market they are going to target with it though. Primarily a stills camera? A true hybrid?  A vlogging camera?

Yep, if it has 4K 60p 10 bit internal, PDAF and not crippled elsewhere, this particular Panasonic Pony of Hope could be interesting.

No PDAF though and see ya.

If this camera has PDAF it has a chance in the consumer market. If not then it will be a hard sell I think.

    Interesting and very shady.
So, theoretically, it can be hacked to get rid of an artificially controlled/handicapped recording limit.

Where did you get 16 from, Canon? I think it's the best camera Canon have released since the original C100 but usable DR is another thing. Arri sensor seems to have 14 or 15 usable depending on your tolerance for noise and they're top of the pile
This is gleaned from Cinema 5d with a SNR of 2.0
    Alexa 14.0
    C500MKII 13.1
    A7SIII 13.0
    C300MIII 12.8
    E2-F6 12.8
    FS7 12.7
    S1H 12.7
    UMP4.6 12.6
    C300MKII 12.3
    BMPCC6K 11.9
    BMPCC4K 11.6
    XT3 11.2
    R5 10.9
    GH5s 10.7
    A7SII 10.6
C300 mk3 is pretty impressive still, hopefully the R5 gets Clog 3 for a slight improvememt or even clog2 to compete with Canon's cinema cameras but at the moment it is relatively low
This new rf mounts camera would hopefully get all flavours of clog too

tyger11 got a reaction from IronFilm in Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
Good news for EOS M owners, but way too late for me; I've gotten rid of all my Canon lenses, and am putting my last two bits of Canon gear up on eBay later today; I'm done with this company.
Going forward for me, it's likely to be the Pocket 4K for straight-up video work, or Fuji for hybrid. I was pretty shocked at Fuji's progress with the X-T3. I'll probably wait for the X-H2, though, to separate it enough from the Pocket 4K. I just hope they add a fully articulating screen. I don't know why all the companies are being so stupid about that. Even Panasonic has apparently gone off their rocker in that regard with the S1/S1R. SMH.

Focal reducer, not a SpeedBooster (which is a brand by MetaBones). You had me confused that MetaBones had jumped into MF for a minute there.

A terrible choice of name though as Weeble definitely has a distinctly unstabilised connotation for anyone over a certain age.

As we invent better sensors, at some point we have enough dynamic range and should focus on global shutter. I'm glad to see innovation on both fronts.

Wasn't there a patent earlier this year for a 1.5" sensor (slightly bigger than m43)?
If the rumors are true and Canon is actually committing to mirrorless later this year, then using the EF-M mount with an optional EFEF-S-to-EF-M speedbooster (made by Canon) would be a great move, made usable across multiple Canon cameras (1.5", APS-C, FF).
I've learned the hard way to never discount Canon's ability to screw over potential customers, though. Plus no holding off on purchases to see what Canon will come out with. They've thrown away all trust at this point. And their patents have a nasty habit of never becoming real products, so nobody should be getting excited at this point.
