I agree and unless you absolutely need in camera 4K 60p or twin card slots, these cameras are still as good as the day they were launched.
It’s not like anyone had a gun to their head to buy them or anything else.
They will make superb used options for a lot of people also.
I do think the Z line has been the most underestimated and over-criticised system of these last 2 years.

It does't add up does it!
    1. CFexpress card throttling... Why would it even break into a sweat recording in 8bit 4K at low bitrates? Yet camera in 4K HQ 8bit quits long before the CFexpress card has had to fully utilise anything close to maximum write speeds.
    2. Sensor overheating... I could appreciate this is sensitive to heat, it gets noisy if hot. But it doesn't cut off for external recording doing full pixel readout (8K) for 4K HQ so that's that theory gone and the Chinese thermometer tests show the surface area of the chip is not the main heat source in the camera.
    3. DIGIC processor overheating. Well the EXIF temp correlates to camera activity in so much as I observed it go from 46C to 62C in 8K mode. If this temp reading is on a PCB far away from the image processor, it is indicative more of internal air temp and CPU could be 10-20C higher. I could understand if the CPU has a thermal run-away problem past 80C why it would stop. But why would it do so when you add 8bit 4K HQ H.264 to the mix? Pretty much any camera can do that unlimited. And we know the SD card and sensor are not the heat limited parts. So why would this compression tip it over the edge... And why does it need a 2 hour recovery time when it cools down to normal ambient temps pretty much instantly?
    4. Menu overheating. Nothing about this makes any sense whatsoever. If the CPU has a fault and it cannot shut down all cores in the menus or something, maybe. I say unlikely. Surely the net processor usage downsampling 8K sensor data to 4K HQ for HDMI is higher than scrolling a list of text
    5. Stills / Live-view = reduced runtimes even 0 mins of 8K. This is the other very artificial thing with no basis in physics. It just doesn't make sense that the CPU is happy to go all day in live view or 4K 10bit H.265 from a pixel binned sensor output, but combine this with the 8K sensor output and BOOM processor has had it in less than 15 mins.
    6. Recovery times = too long. No basis in real thermal dynamics or temperatures.
So it is all a big mystery and one I will be taking to the UK small claims court if Canon doesn't start cooperating or answering these questions.

Have you actually used prores raw in Z6? It has far less issues than presented by some youtubers. And I find AF on native lenses very good in video mode. In fact I was shooting on 2 cameras, Canon C200 beside Z6, and AF is actually tracking better on Z6. Believe it or not. No hunting, smooth transition. They really made those S lenses great for video. There's really little not to like about them. Lack of linear focus is the only thing I can think of. Maybe people judge too much by the looks these days? They might lack solid look (although I dig it), hence they are not good?

The Nikon Z series doesn’t get much attention on this forum, so I decided to take a second look at it following the release of the Z5 and upcoming Z6/7S cameras.
After looking at their lenses, My initial impressions are positive. I find the Nikon Z lenses much more compelling than the $2300-2600 Canon RF glass. For one, the Z lenses are cheaper, mainly coming in around $1000 and many well under $1000 for the variable aperture stuff and inline with Canon’s Pro 2.8 glass.
They have interesting focal lengths like 14-30mm f/4, all the usual pro 2.8 lenses (except telephoto), and really affordable f1.8 primes. The just announced 24-200 f/4-6.3 feels like the FF spiritual successor to the MFT Oly 12-100 f/4 for a relatively compact all-arounder walkabout lens. The super compact 24-50 f/4-6.3 seems like a Interesting street combo or small kit lens setup.
If they had a bit better video specs a Z50, Z6S/7S is a pretty compelling combo. Z50 makes a great B-cam or vlogging cam for BTS or story narrative bits while the Z6S handles the more cinematic stuff.
I have also noticed with Canon and Nikon the embrace of higher apertures for smaller sizes in lenses. I think Nikon Z pulls this off better, so far, imho.
It seems Canon released the usual pro 2.8 lenses first while Nikon took a more balanced approach with releasing some Pro lenses inter-mixed with unusual variable aperture designs and focal lengths.

These days im not sure what the future of camera tech should be like. I dont even need 4k, sometimes I think ibis can come in handy, but then you see some wobbly images and I change my mind instantly. For cinema uses there isnt a need for more iso options iso 800 is great. I guess most cameras have decent DR nowadays. AF is cool for gimbal work and one man band kinda jobs, but for cinema it doesnt look it will ever come. The alexa does still looks the most amazing, and thats a 10 year old sensor. So maybe the future of filmmaking lies in the innovation of lighting. Aputure set a great example in modular lighting and arri followed suit. But I guess prices and current led tech isnt quite there yet for the masses.

wind1414 reacted to rawshooter in What REALLY prompted Canon suddenly to get their act together with video?
There's one huge question mark: This camera has a 45 MP sensor - which even with the best and newest technology means a smaller pixel pitch, lower full-well capacity and more noise/worse low light/less dynamic range than a comparable 24 MP sensor.
Canon's sensor tech now has a long history of rather dramatically trailing Sony's. (Just compare the 26 MP full frame sensor performance of the relatively new Canon EOS RP with Sony's 24 MP full frame sensor.)
So Canon needs to have suddenly caught up or even leapfrogged Sony if the R5's sensor should have a comparable dynamic range and low-light capabilities to the A7iii, the Panasonic S1/S1H, the Nikon R6, the Panasonic S1/S1H and the Sigma fp (all of which use the same Sony sensor or variants thereof).
In the worst case, this will be a camera developed for (a) stills photographers and (b) the (cancelled) Tokyo Olympics with its Japanese 8K broadcast standard, with 8K resolution and high megapixel count having been given priority over real-world performance. Which would also help Canon sell its C100/C200/C300 camera range despite all...
Just sayin'. We can't really tell anything before the camera will be here and tested in the real world.

It’s hard to imagine how 8K won’t be crippled. It’ll leapfrog the c500 II?
No, the key for the R5/R6’s viability is not omitting the features that were missing in the past: internal recording of pro codecs, IBIS, full frame, acceptable rolling shutter.

Wow. So because most white people don’t walk around feeling privileged removes the de facto privilege bestowed upon them for centuries?
And the whole “political correct thing doesn’t connect with people” is just flat out condescending. So “ordinary people” can’t be allies, ie. decent human beings informed about questions regarding social issues?
It’s so incredibly sad that these kind of topics on any forum always end up about the white man’s hurt feelings. As if the act of calling out racism is somehow inherently more hurtful than actual racism.

“Politics is obsessed about skin color”, that’s funny because I think people in general are kind of obsessed about skin color (especially Sony’s on this forum), but it’s only now when the paler shade of skin is also named, not just taken as a neutral general thing. Then all of a sudden there’s an obsession - not when you scream the n-word or more recently make jokes about East Asians with regards to the corona virus.
Nobody is trying to shame the hard working gaffer into believing anything, I think it’s more about including the hard working people of color when it comes to recognizing the industry. One doesn’t negate the other.

And then the Japan example. Always the Japan example. Let’s not go to the extremely weird exotification of this “monocultural” country where everything is so special and great because of their monoculture. Because it isn’t.

I think if Deakins was let down by his Alexa and dreadful skin tones, he'd consider it a big waste of time.
And I think that way about Sony's cameras. A big waste of time.
I can spend hours dialling in the right settings which look great for one subject, but awful for another.
A7R IV is a camera that does well for landscapes, but naff for human subjects... And if you dial it in for skintones, suddenly you have problems elsewhere, or it lacks impact.
The white balance system seems to use the sensor, it doesn't handle mixed light. If anyone can figure out how to stop it from making a 3200k lit interior look like Donald Trump's face when there is a 6500k laptop screen occupying 1/100th of the shot, please write the answer below.

Its interesting to me that when the Youtube hype train was in full motion for the A7iii and GH5 everybody was on board, but not this time. My only guess its because this camera is not meant for the audience of this forum.
And I seem to recall about 10,001 posts on this forum screaming for a mic jack in these types of cameras.
But jut like always, when we get it we immediately move the goal post.

wind1414 reacted to BTM_Pix in Sigma FP
Slashcam refer to the crop as being in the specification
"The Sigma fp will be equipped with a 35mm Bayer sensor with 24.6 effective MP exposed at the back (so not with a Foveon sensor like the Sigma Quattro). In the technical data for the camera, however, a crop of 1.5 is mentioned, which will most likely be effective in film mode."
If you look at the specification, the crop (or Clop as its spelt in the document  ) is actually mentioned in reference to still formats rather than video.
So the crop reference is purely there is to indicate the resolution you will get in stills mode when you attach an existing L mount APS-C lens like the Leica ones or Sigma's own upcoming crop lenses.
I will have to resist all urges to refer to this as Jurgen mode when I attach an APS-C lens to it.

I too am impressed with the Z6. Ticks off a lot of boxes in a very small and light form factor. I'm a former Canon, Sony and Panasonic user. I also have an XT3 which I love and recently got the Z6. The Z6 is blowing me away across the board. Really, the only thing it's lacking is 4k60p and a robust native lens lineup (for now). The IBIS is better than I expected, 120fps is excellent, weather sealed, awesome low light capability, touch interface, good battery life and eye-AF and ProRes Raw on the way! Very happy so far.

Yes padam, but not everyone needs the big video ecosystem -f.e. small / indie productions- and since Z has shortest flange distance you can adapt almost any FF / S35 lens. EOSHD is a lot about hybrid cameras for enthusiasts and semipros, right? So Nikon got very interesting in the last 2 years. By the way, professional i am more in the environment of ARRI, RED or Sony Venice- but for "private" tasks I am happy with Nikon (D850/Z6) for photography and video.
