as gordon laing sums it up correctly; "don't get too excited : no PDAF in 4k, no 1080p with the affordable ef-s lenses"  - canon you are still #1 at the crippling game

Pretty interesting that so many thought a cheap entry level camera would be more featured than the more expensive mid tier.

I partly agree, but you buy an expensive full frame camera to shoot full frame don't you...
Pay the same money, and do it on the Z6.
Pay Canon and you get 1.75x crop.
    It's not acceptable.
And I don't care about 10bit nearly as much as I care about the wide angle of my $2000 lens.
    I agree.
But the EOS R is a $4000+ investment for most people, certainly not a 200D or a beginner to intermediate camera.
Probably $2000+ for the body and the same again for new lenses.
I have directly compared dedicated video cameras like the C300 and C500 (I own one) to my mirrorless cameras.
Even the Samsung NX1's 4K is better than the C300, more cinematic, less moire and aliasing, just as good colour.
    https://www.eoshd.com/2015/02/samsung-nx1-vs-canon-c300/

Or you could get a Sony. I preferred the A7S II over the FS5. A7 III is even better.
    Or a Nikon.
    Or a Panasonic.
    Or a Fuji.
    Or an Olympus.
    Or a Blackmagic.
If someone is in the market for a pro video camera then they wouldn't be evaluating the EOS R at all or any of the other full frame mirrorless cameras, so it's an unrelated argument anyway.
Most people do not actually choose a C300 for the best image.
They just don't realise you can add NDs, larger battery and a pro audio interface to a mirrorless camera And want to look "PRO".
    I don't think the ALL-I 400Mbit 4K on the GH5 is "quite poor".
And the audience will notice the full frame look of a Sony A7 III before the notice codec subtleties.
The main issue is people can't fcking grade it!
I am curious what stuff you've watched from the camera and how well it was shot and graded.

Andrew, I think Samsung will make big mistakes when they don't come back in camera business. Now they only have mobile phones and camerachips. Imagine what happen with their phone marketshare when Canon/Nikon/Sony are going to cooperate with mobile phone producers. How does it sound to you if you buy a mobile phone with a 'Canon inside' camera as second next to your Canon mirrorless. Same colourprofiles and art of menu. I am still happy with my NX1, but I love to see the news about all improvements. If i decide to buy Nikon FF mirrorless or A7SIII this autumn, the chance that I'll buy a Samsung camara again would be very very small. Note..., for filming I am not a Canon fan ?

Im have good news for you: I just shot RAW video with the NX1...RAW VIDEO in 25p - nice workflow with 25 DNGs per second. Just an unbelievable quality (in my eyes).
Problem: I'm just writing my graduation exam...after that I'll download the footage and describe the methodology. It's quite special but it's great for my Ipurposes. With the 60mm 2.8 at F6 an unbelievable detail and sharpness.

    @Juxx989
As it is, the S is 16-50mm, both wider, and has much more reach at the tele end. It is stabilized, with very good protection from the elements.
The 18-35 is faster, but it is not wide enough, as I use my S and Other lenses, extensively at 16mm, and not tele enough for wid ish portraits.
I would be much more interested on a wider one, like the Fuji 10-24 but with 2.8f, or a 2-2.8f, an ultra wide S lens, that was my dream when I bought the NX1! A lens like that would be on my camera 85% of the time.
Now, the adapter issue. I told before,  not a while ago, that a NX adapter to whatever mount, is necessary, as we are moving through the years and are no new NX cameras manufactured.
A lot of people took that wrong, I am not going to defend my position. For me is obvious that an active adapter to whatever mount, is necessary for a dying brand. As cameras will become obsolete, or die first, there will be a lot of thousands of lenses around, probably for cheap, that will beg to be used on other cameras. This is a serious business as well. There will be a lot of buyers, more so than the speed boosted ones.
Right now I have 4 NX, so I am set for the next couple of years, until the industry moves up a bit,  but I also have 7-8 lenses, that I would like to use with a different camera. The NX lens collection was an excellent one, a lot of people underestimated it, but in reality it a great small selection of lenses.
12-24 is my go to lens lately. Small pancakes like the 16/30 ones. The fish eye is my second favorite Lens. The workhorse 16-50S. My favorite 45mm. Very good and cheap generic ones, like the PZ and the 50-200. There is an amazing 85mm and a very good macro. It is a shame so much good glass to go to waste forever.
My dream would be a Nikon-Samsung co operation and an official active adapter, working on S35 mode on the new Nikon full frame mirrorless. Nikon is moving away from Sony, maybe a strategical co operation with Samsung will be their saving boat, and Samsung can sell a few hundreds of thousands of ram, CPU, sensors, and whatever Nikon needs.

I don't have any cows, CIPA statistics are very easy to read and comprehend, and since the peak a lot of things happened, Goldman Sachs happened, the political climate has changed through out the world, Brexit happened (is happening right now, actually), and now mobile phones have good enough quality to - as Casey Neistat calls them - Casual As F$%# users take a few snapshots per day.
Why to stop arguing? If the A7 bodies were good as they were, Sony wouldn't change them, right?
And I can not see how you fail to realize that a Panasonic 12-35mm m43 is  2.66x2.91" (67.6x73.8) and 305gr, an APS-C Fuji 16-55 is 3.28x4.17"(83.3x106mm) and 655g and the Sony 24-70 is 3.45x5.35" (87.6x136mm) and 886g. Don't you think it could problematic using a full frame workhorse lens, on a m43 body for 5-10 hours per working day? Do you think the market for an A7Riii + 24-70mm = 5800euros in my country, is targeting the entry level market and casual users?

Did you even read the CIPA numbers that you posted?
ILC sell around 12.000.000 per year, and stabilizing greatly. what is declining is the cheap compact camera market, which honestly this segment is better with their mobile phones.
The older A7 cameras were terrible for pro use, using full frame workhorse zooms, terrible battery etc the new designs are is the right direction.
Stop confusing m43, APS-C and full frame ergonomics. The lenses are very different in weight and size.

Sorry. This is an 'A7' thread' and I have bought at 7 x A7 cameras - which is probably 7 more than you - why should you tell me what is off topic?
'I’ve got small hands. We don’t need tiny flagship cameras. What we need are cameras with buttons, dials and handgrips that don’t feel cramped. And even small cameras can benefit from chunkier dials and a beefier hand grip.'
This sort of comment - which sort of is 'well if you make the camera bigger I might eventually buy it' is on topic while my comments about 'why I am a multiple customer of this camera is off topic' - give me a break!

I had the A7RIII for a few weeks but especially with an adapter, the camera body is a tad too small. Knuckles get in the way of the lens adapter. The body is also not well balanced with heavier lenses. I woman wedding photographer said she was getting severe hand cramps from shooting with the smaller body all day.
If you are using the camera on a tripod, I guess it doesn't matter but one should at least consider how it balances and how it feels. Adding a battery grip would probably help balance it better.
With that said, Sony is going to sell a boatload of A7III's.

I was like that when I picked up the A9.
If I was Sony I'd ban stores from displaying it without the grip as if you're trying to get someone to switch from 1Dx or D5 it feels small in an off putting way !
They've finally done the 400 f2.8 for it which in the pictures I've seen of it they've also not put the grip on the camera. It looks like a Smart Car towing an Airstream.

Instead, i believe the price in dollars is a bargain for these specs.

When talking about the Samsung NX1 camera, in the comments you clearly distinguish 2 types of people:
    The pessimists and the optimists.
    1) The pessimists are those who have never had an NX1 in their hands;
    2) The optimists, that is, the enthusiasts who own an NX1 and are happy and satisfied, some of them sold the NX1 by switching to another camera but regrets the NX1.
I do not want to speculate on the news of a possible NX2 (although I would have reason, considering that I worked a lot and lost time to support the NX system with the NXL speed booster), I just want to say to the defeatists who think it is not convenient for Samsung, that the camera market is niche, which in 2018 will drop an asteroid on the earth, etc ...
Maybe Sony is crazy about investing in the photo market? Yet he took a lot of the market away from Canikon!
Nobody knows the business dynamics of a giant like Samsung, sometimes certain products are produced for different reasons, to be present in that sector too, to show muscles, to satisfy customers, to experiment with superior technologies to be used in another sector such as that of the smartphone. Some time ago I hypothesized that after the release of Red Hydrogen on the phone market, Samsung could get a professional camera that was able to incite fear to the Red camera, this thought is not so crazy if you think about it.
The Iphonenauti sect is difficult to erase but the sales of the Galaxy 9S could be annoyed because of the many guys who are passionate about photography and video that would buy a Red phone instead of a Samsung.
Did Samsung expect double the NX1 camera sales? Well, just double the sale price and get a better result! I for the NX2 would spend twice as much as I paid the NX1 and buy the new Galaxy 9S, why? Simply because it knows how to do everything right, it is a small and light camera that never disappoints you.
When Andrew says that Samsung is the only one who can do it, it also means that Samsung has cut many design costs derived from NX1, also has all the components that are used in other appliances.
I think they should focus only on a high-end model, the NX2, the top of the class, no compromise, the best camera on the market with a single set of S lenses including the monstrous 300mm f2.8 ready and never marketed!
A dream maybe but dreaming does not cost anything and then it is not so far from reality.

I'm not confusing anything, other releases specify two applications for Exynos that will make Samsung tons of cash -  mobile and auto infotainment. A NX-whatever is not a money making proposition, it would take years for Samsung to make a ILC that could turn a profit no matter how much of the fantasy-land spec from the original post they could actually make a reality. And profitability will never happen in a declining market when they're starting from scratch with their lack of commitment to actually staying in the game. As mentioned in previous posts, perhaps there's a prototype as a showcase for other camera manufacturers, but they're focused on growth, and after killing the NX that's not an area of growth.

NX1's AF was the second best back then, not that further away from Canon's, and still I prefer it from Sony's for video (so in my opinion, it is still the second best!). Samsung was nothing to Canon back then, the smaller players were afraid the most (Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic mainly; Sony was worried, and Nikon would have been doomed). Olympus and Fuji haven't the resources to fight Samsung, Nikon can't compete in the new digital age, and even Panasonic is much smaller than Samsung.
Sony is powerful, but Samsung had some amazing R&D breakthroughs, and the capacity to manufacture EVERYTHING you need for a photo/video camera (CPUs, RAMs, lenses, Super AMOLED touch screens, everything). First 28mpxls BSI sensor (A7Rii was the second big sensored BSI actually) etc etc.
Samsung just decided that they didn't want to compete on a declining market, and pro video/photography was a long shot. NX1 was too late in the game.
It is just a pity that we didn't see a NX1mkII, they did the first version SOOOOO good, without any prior real practical experience. The NX team had some truly talented and passionate people (just check some of their older corporate videos), something that a huge capitalistic and autocratic mega-trust, couldn't allow to exist.
