    I think these are overpriced and under spec'd for video, the crops in 4k 50p are indeed lame in 2022, the Fuji XT3 has been out many years and offers more. I am being asked for 4k 50p footage a lot these days so that it can be used as slow mo if needs be. These cameras are no good for this.
    Also a bit disappointing there are no reasonably fast crop lenses to go with the cameras or for the C70. Hopefully soon 
    For wildlife photography though am sure the R7 will be a big seller

    I agree but guess it's all relative, the Canon R5 is £4300, GH6 way less than half that at £2000.
    Think this is a great camera and with the Olympus puts M34 back on the map and hopefully has a decent future. Many folks been writing M43 off but I feel it has a lot to offer. What would really be a statement of intent would be a proper cine/eng zoom with good range, take advantage of the M43 unique sensor size, has been crying out for one for years

    All good points, I've not had much luck taking stills from video unless there's little movement in the shot - slow shutter speed always creates blur, I guess shooting in 50p and 1/100 or even 100p 1/200 and bringing back to 25p in post could work but may compromise quality.
    In my world I don't see 8k being asked for any time soon and by then there will likely be better and cheaper camera available. To be honest most of what I shoot still gets delivered in HD, your requirements may well be different of course. I would personally take better DR and usability over higher resolution and possible future proofing
    Haven't noticed softness in C70 footage but maybe subconsciously that's what I've liked about it, some of the R5 8k footage I've seen looks almost too sharp and video like. Admittedly I've only seen it on 4k screen so maybe it comes into its own viewed at native resolution. Not experienced an 8k screen yet
    Anyway nice to have choices I think you'd probably be happy with either, both camera produce a lovely image

    No professional, all who appear are police officers.

    New gear is great but if you have nothing to shoot what is the point? I think that sums up the sentiment we've all been through this past year and a half. It's been brutal for a lot of us independent pros. I sold a lot of cine gear and lost a lot of money in the process. Seriously considered leaving the industry as well. Fortunately for me, business has picked up again and that's really all it takes to get excited about shooting. Because for me its really all about shooting, gear is just means to an end. Too much gear can also be a buzzkill. I saw a great video the other day shot with just a G7 and a macro lens. I'm a strong believer in limitations spark creativity. Not just in filmmaking but all creative areas. Its a hard motto to live by these days within a gear-driven industry. Speaking of apple and tech GAS, I had to resist the urge for the third year in a row to get the "pro" model. My phone died so I did cop the iPhone 13 but went with the mini. Love the form factor and my phone will remain just that a phone. Photos & videos shot with it will remain on social media. No ProRes on smartphone for me, oh well. Also thinking about getting the iPad mini, it feels like a Moleskin notebook. I hate big tablets, might as well just use a notebook at that point (also just got the M1 MBA). Just waiting to see how the A15 compares to M1 as I would like to do some basic editing on it and need HEVC support. 
    Anyways I'd be sad to see this place disappear. I haven't been around since the start but it's been an incredible resource and community, even with all the riffraff and drama. I think we all owe Andrew a big thanks no matter the outcome. I don't always agree with his views but at least he has a freaking opinion unlike 99% of the internet shills. As a primarily Canon shooter I also thank him for being so outspoken on the overheat-gate issue that got us solutions and even got Canon to somewhat address the situation. Who will have the clout & balls to do so if this independent voice disappears? Keep going Andrew, your doing the community/industry a great service by being vocal on matters that matter!

    Am just relaying what I read from some Canon users.
    On these crazy DR claims (Canon aren't the only ones), when does this becomes false advertising? I start to lose respect for companies when they spin these figures, at some point they should be made accountable. If Arri has 14 stops of useable DR and the market leader (Arri don't feel the need to mislead), how do the others get away with their false claims?

    20 plus stops of DR claims makes me laugh, reminds me of RED marketing - but are these going to be RF or EF mount? CAnon has definitely been busy of late though not sure how present C300 III and C500 II owners will feel so soon after their pretty major investment, there has been grumbling of lack of firmware updates compared with FX9, hope Canon doesn't leave these folk out in the cold...

    I've only used the S1 but yes from what I can see it holds a few advantages to the S5 other than size. IBIS is supposedly better, full size hdmi is priceless, the new firmware takes it close to the S1H, those with an S5 may be able to tell you what is better on the smaller model. With vlog upgrade I have to say the S1 image is hard to beat, DR and colour both are amazing

    Shot mostly on the Zcam S6 with some Panasonic S1 in there too. I feel like the trailer was harder to make than the actual film. 😅

    Good question, I also usually just follow 180 degree rule blindly and shoot 50p at 1/100 with slow-mo in mind. Maybe 50p at 1/50 makes more sense for non slomo on a 25p timeline..?
    Yes 4K50p is the same 5.5K oversampled quality 4K.
    4K crop mode is a slightly upsampled sub-4K region (3414 x 1920 pixels). You'd have to pixel peep to notice the difference.
    I guess its worth noting 4K60p crop mode on the R6 gets you the lowest RS: 10.2ms.
    Manual WB with Clog in Neutral seems pretty good, I haven't done extensive tungsten tests though.

    Here you go. 20 seconds straight from camera in clog. The only thing I did was strip out the audio and exported as ProRes HQ. Oh, it's also in a 2:1 aspect ratio but it was shot in 4K DCI.

    Resolve 17.1 now supports hw decoding of h265 4:2:2 10bit.
    For intel you need an ice lake and tiger lake cpu. For Mac an M1.

    I've used the Genus Eclipse now for many years don't even know if it's available anymore - slightly warm but no colour shift that I can see and no obvious drop in sharpness

    Sorry to plonk this here but as the FX6 keeps getting mentioned in comparison and I couldn't actually find a FX6 thread (surely there must be one somewhere it's proving very popular camera?)
    Anyway a bit too much slow mo for my tastes but some lovely footage never the less and a little Alexa comparison at the end
