Juank reacted to j.f.r. in "Dies Somnum" 6K Anamorphic GH5 vid
Definitely the GH5 footage I was looking for...... Greta location. Art Design and "Mood" created. Watching on a 2.5k Monitor and looks LOVELY, very good job and definitely would recommend this camera based off of this footage (if this is any indication of what is capable , Panasonic has something Special here).

Hey Luke, just watched this video again and I must say I may be more impressed than the first viewing. Were your opening shots a time lapse or were they done in post?
Also... any chance you and the wife would consider making a director's commentary for this video... would love to know the details.

After the DVX200 came out, I bought it. To be honest, I wasn't experienced at that time with settings, tweaking and getting the best results of a more advanced camera, but my experience was a desaster:
horrible, piggish colors when speaking about footage out of the camera ("as it is"), though Panasonic advertized the device as good for news gathering and documentary shooting though I am not a pixel peeper, the DVX200 had horrible - and visible - noise even in daylight footage and good lighting (without contrasty situations like contre-jour), e.g. in tree bark and leafs... After seeing in some forums many other people facing the same problems and a Barry Green first claiming the people complaining "have to learn to handle the camera" and - after many complains of pro and broadcast shooters - claiming, that filmers have to use V-Log to get usable results, I was shocked by such brazenness when speaking of a camera (that time) costing about 4.500 Euro in Germany, advertized for what I did. I returned it after 6 days and I was not the only one who did this. Never looked back.
After some firmware upgrades, they made the DVX200 better, noise got less and the color science (OOC) got more pleasant indeed. The attitude of companies pocketing immediately buyers money, but claiming to deliver the advertized features with an update later or in "next future" is unacceptable in my eyes. Though I still use two Panasonic cameras, I am done with this company in regard of buying a professional film or video camera from them without testing it excessively. Buyers are NOT beta testers for impertinent PR morons and marketing liars...
@Marketing morons: Don't praise too much theoretical specs and bells & whistles - show me the advertized features, ergonomic, handling and results first, and then I'll give you my money.

@webrunner5 We obviously talk about a variable sensor, not a m43 one. I do not own or have any m43 glass or cameras while I have a lot of different lenses for different mounts, I just express the versatility of such a thing, and why not, but use some m43 glass too (even though we use EF lenses with LS300 right now!) with a smaller, and all around camera like the GH5, or other.
I thought that JVC is owned by Panasonic by the way, and I do not think that having a sensor, and take parts of it is copyrighted or whatever!
That would be an obvious upgrade for a lot of m43 users that started video productions with the GH series cameras, and would help (or at least support and defend) their native sales too.

@Neumann Films That was really nice! Good work. I have been waiting to see more serious anamorphic footage out of GH5. And now they released even the 10-bit option which is great. Only if it could shoot a little more slowmo than 50p. Like 100fps in anamorphic mode would be great.
You used IBIS in those handheld shots, right? How did the camera work with IBIS and anamorphic lenses. Did it make any weird shifts or corrections it shouldn't because of the anamorphic glass? Or did it just work perfectly? I assume you used IBIS setting as 35, 50 or 75 depending which lens you used.
Those SLR Magic lenses definetly focuses quite close. Or did you use some diopters with them?

A well respected member at dvxuser wrote this earlier
"Just got this info about the new camera. It will have a S35 sensor and 14 stops of dynamic range. 4k up to 60fps. 1080p up to 120fps. All the usual stuff like ND, SDI/HDMI out. The body is very light weight at about 1 kg. Media used will be SDXC cards with dual slot capacity.
The camera pars can be broken down and the shape of the camera is a mix of C100 and FS5. As is the price in the league of a C100 mkII."
Would be pretty amazing if true

I know a solution.
It's called Final Cut Pro X.
The days are are long gone when Apple radically changed it. This is now an absolutely incredible edit program.
In comparison, Premiere feels vastly outdated compared to FCPX's fluidity, speed, reliability, innovation, intuitive usability. It's just fantastic. One of Apples best properties.
If you're frustrated with Premiere, FCPX is a no-brainer.
Time for people to let go of the past and wake up.

Juank reacted to Fritz Pierre in GH5 focus excellence
The AF controversy seems to keep reverting back to the Panasonic Reps claiming that the GH5 AF is much better than the GH4...well...it is!...so nothing amiss there..I don't think I've seen a single line anywhere about someone blaming Sony reps for not disclosing that their cameras overheat quickly...lol...criticism seems to be as subjective as image quality...

Support L-Fn button of some Olympus lenses. (Make it configurable as an Fn button instead of only focus hold.)

Juank reacted to Stab in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
Funny to see a 100 pages discussion from which is 80% about Autofocus. At the same time, hundreds of video's are posted but none of them contain any production value. 90% is just baby- / cat- / house- / foreground flowers in focus / neighberhood video's.
Also telling is that nowadays many vloggers buying a GH5 for their work. It's funny and weird to see how the video market has changed from a majority of professional camera users, to 90% hobbyists, vloggers and rich people buying this cam to play with for a while before never touching it again.
Sorry, but i can't help the feeling of feeling slightly bad for all these spoiled little brats. If you can't or won't produce anything of visual value with this camera, then please don't judge it for it's AF capabilities. I have never used AF for video nor while I ever, and I'm not saying nobody may not or shouldn't, I am just pointing out what a bunch of whiners film makers have become.
We used to use gear which was highly impractical and inefficient and made the best out of it to satisfy our clients. Now we're shooting 4k in slow motion footage of our cat which moves away from us all the time or towards us, and complain that this stupid 2000 euro camera can't even hold the damn cat in focus.
This is not a complaint about EOSHD, where the percentage of sensible professionals is still pretty high, but about all the stuff I've seen lately on Youtube, Facebook and forums about this AF-talk combined with their cat- and garden video's.
As soon as I will finish some professional shoots with the GH5, I will report back here. Until then, I'm gonna leave the discussions up to you. Happy shooting.

Juank reacted to IronFilm in Sony A6500 or Panasonic GH5...?
I'm still seeing user reports of a6500 occasionally overheating.
And even if it didn't.... Thus then you could use it as your A cam for weddings, where oh where are your cheaper B cam options?? They don't exist! Not like the G7. And if you purchased 3x a6500 that would totally blow your budget.

I don't have the GH5 yet, but here's a wish list and things I wish my GH4 had done:
2.7 or 2.5K up to ~80-90fps, at 10-bit 4:2:2
Focus punch-in while recording
Assign audio levels to one of the dials
Let us choose which settings C1, C2 etc change, and which are sticky/global. So that we could for example change between regular and overcrank framerates without having to reset white balance, picture profile, etc.
Let us choose which different options the Display button toggles through- for example I never use the Info screen (black grid with settings), and I'd love to not have to cycle past it when I'm trying to switch between the clean preview and the preview with settings.
A smart UI overhaul that makes better use of the touchscreen- more smartphone-ey I guess. Like the newer Blackmagic firmwares- swipe to bring in different displays, etc.
