IronFilm reacted to TrueIndigo in Help me on an eBay hunt for 4K under $200 - Is it possible?
Yes, I was thinking of the older cameras which only shoot FHD as their native resolution. I remember years ago doing an UHD upscale of some FHD footage from the old Nikon D5200 which looked quite pastel and smooth with some careful noise reduction. I think that camera used a Toshiba sensor and had a nice cyan tint to it which I liked. Later I bought the D5500 to pair with it, but it was quite different from the earlier camera, looked more generic, more modern I suppose.

IronFilm reacted to Helen Adela in Programmer runs Minecraft on a Canon DLSR camera
The Canon Rebel SL2 DSLR camera is known for bringing a 24 MP sensor and recording videos in Full HD, but a programmer decided to use the product for an unusual purpose: running a Minecraft server . The procedure was carried out by the developer known as "turtius", who shared his work in a video on YouTube .
The production shows the Canon Rebel camera running on Minecraft for about a minute and a half, running the game server optimized for 8-bit. The images are displayed directly on the camera monitor, as well as on a computer connected to the device.
According to the programmer, the procedure was possible after reverse engineering the camera. The developer also applied modifications to Canon's system using the Magic Lantern software, which allows you to customize image capture devices in more depth.
In addition to running Minecraft, the camera used in the experiment can still be used normally to record videos and take photos, reports the person in charge of the project. The developer also shared his experiment codes for free, allowing more people to try running Minecraft on Canon devices.
For those interested, more details about the modification made to the camera are available on GitHub , but follow the procedure at your own risk. If you want to play Minecraft  on a device that supports the game naturally, the game of blocks is available on PC, consoles and also for smartphones.
Last year, developer Mojang also launched Minecraft Dungeons , which brings a new vision to the block franchise with Diablo- inspired gameplay .

IronFilm reacted to Lux Shots in Coronavirus survey part 2 - how are work & incomes going?
    This is a great topic!
I had a bride to be die of COVID, so I had to give a full refund for that poor guy. I had 8 friends and one family member die and a dozen or so associates.  I got one of my vaccination shots with another in a few weeks. COVID is a full bitch.

The whole year I shot five weddings instead of the 25 I usually shoot. Most didn't want to splurge on video, so I went back to offering $500 wedding stills in people's backyards since everything else was shut down. The worst thing is, I live in Ohio, and the majority of my clients are in Pennsylvania, and the two states imposed a travel band between each other. So I would have to get a COVID-19 test to travel to P.A. and quarantine when I arrived back to Ohio, even though it was only 45-60 min away.
I was blessed to do several corporate jobs for my biggest client, and that kept the income on the year flat, with much less stress than any wedding work. Problem is, that is one big client making up 70% of my income. That ain't the best from a diversification standpoint.

The new OnePlus and Huawei P50 look like they will have very good sensor specs. That takes care of the UWA and WA modules, but to tackle the telephoto lenses, someone will have to bring the extending lens design back and bet on a (very) thick camera hump. With every company just drowning in the dozens of models they offer, one should be a premium photo-first device.

What about the Z-cam E2c. It's the cheapest 4k raw option around, also internal ProRes, and about the size of the Blackmagic Micro.
I think All setting and monitoring can be done with a phone with no added hardware.

I've been on the Red Komodo pre-order list for 4 months or so with no word. TBH I may cancel it as work is light. I'll see how I feel when i finally get the "do you want to complete your order sir?" call...

The S1H for me is like a baby Alexa, such a good image. But I prefer Komodo post pipeline due to the raw codec. That's it though, TBH the S1H is better for everything else. Maybe I will cancel it TBH, seems like there's little benefit at the moment.

I actually think they have one of the best naming conventions in the whole industry. All the cameras are in the E2 generation, but M4 is m43 4K, S6 is s35 6K, F6 is FF 6K, and F8 is FF 8K. Compare that to a7siii, FX3, C70, etc. when trying to judge specs at a glance. Even Blackmagic's convoluted naming at least lets you know what the cameras offer 😅

The original E2 being out of stock is to be expected! Has been discontinued, the even cheaper Z Cam E2-M4 has "replaced" it.
Soooo close to reaching Firmware v1.0! Ha
(wonder when that will finally happen??)

E Mount is another option that they've got.
(but also doesn't have eND with an E Mount  )
    Arguably didn't the GH5S / P4K / E2 / E2-M4 / Terra4K all share the same common origin as their underlying sensor they're derived/based upon?

Z-cam looks to be here to stay. There were rumors of shortages of the processor Z-cam uses, but their entire product line is in stock at BH Photo except for the original E2. Z-cam also looks to be introducing a competitor to the Red Komodo with the release of the Z CAM E2-S6G Super 35mm 6K Cinema Camera (Global Shutter) due in April.
So, with what appears to be a stable company and expanding product line, it is worth taking a second look at the E2-M4 now that Z-cam has now released firmware 0.98.0 that enables Pro Res recording at all frame rates on the E2-M4. This includes 4k @ 120fps, 4K 2.4:1  @ 160fps & 1080p @ 240fps in Pro Res, so you don't have the overhead of decoding H265.

A natural comparison is to the Blackmagic Pocket 4k, which has a few advantages:
    1. 12bit BRAW
    2. LCD Screen
    3. SD Card Recording
    4. $200 cheaper
    5. AC to DC power supply included
    6. About 1/2 lbs lighter

Some of the E2-M4 advantages are:
    1. 4k @ 120p and 4k 2.4:1 @ 160fps slow-motion recorded to Pro Res internally as well as un-cropped 1080p @ 240p for super-slow motion but it does line skip.
2a. Wireless video monitoring to iPhone or iPad (or both at the same time) with only 100ms delay, which better than many less expensive wireless HDMI solutions when you add the HDMI latency of the camera HDMI out.
2b. You can also plug in your iPhone into the USB C port via a cable and it will take the place of the wireless link and charge your phone at the same time as well as ensure a reliable connection.
2c. The app functions much like a real monitor with 1080p resolution, peaking, scopes etc as well as does camera control.
    3. 5-pin Limo to dual balanced mic pre inputs with phantom power (adapter cable required)
    4. Interchangeable lens mounts including a optional locking M4/3 mount as well as an EF or PL that can take their variable electronic ND (the M4/3 and M4/3 locking can not take the vari-ND) There is a mount with a built in speed booster.
    5. Box camera so it is a better shape to balance on a gimbal.
6a. Different sensor than the Blackmagic Pocket 4k that does not have the magenta shift at when under exposing
6b. This sensor is significantly taller than the Pocket 4k sensor so it is much better for shooting anamorphic.
6c. The combination of difference sensor and Z-Cam color science and color profiles provide a different look and some will prefer it to the Blackmagic 4K.
    7. Expanded ISO limits depending on your shooting mode up to 102,400  vs  25,600 of the  Blackmagic Pocket 4k.
    8. HDMI output can output up to 4k depending on the shooting mode.
9a. Large, more powerful, longer lasting battery options using the Sony L-Series.
9b. Power output from the camera to power a monitor.
    10. Can shoot ProRes RAW via recording to the Ninja V. (not really an advantage if you use Resolve due to BRAW support)
    11. Live streaming via Ethernet port.

As they in Spinal Tap: these go to 11.

For an extra $200, it is worth considering the Z-cam E2-M4, especially if you are a Final Cut Pro user, if you own an Ninja V, or if you own a Ronin S.  Here's part 1 or a great 3 part review of the E2-M4 by Adam Wilt: https://www.provideocoalition.com/review-z-cam-e2-m4-mft-cine-camera-part-1/

Seriously, these heavily video focused cameras such as the S1H/GH5S/a7Smk3/etc should give us a second independent output. Then your on camera monitor could be log with info overlays, and the director etc can get a clean Rec709 feed)

Wait. The SL2 is sexy German design, fine. But doesn't it use Sony parts (sensor, EVF, etc.). Your complaint about Nikon was that they're doing.... exactly that.
Yeah, you have better video options on the Panasonic S cameras (at least we assume, we know nothing about the video specs of the Z9). But you have worse video specs on an a7III or any Sony that's not a7SIII or a9.
Color science you mention. But they're the same sensor, I thought that was the issue?
Your complaint was literally "rebadged Sony" is what Nikon makes now. Not interesting tech, which is a nebulous term anyway.
So, from what I gather now... "uniqueness" is the problem. That's what you value. Many people - especially pro photographers and not gear heads - don't give a hoot. If they like Nikon's body, color, lenses, performance, whatever... then they'll use it. Uniqueness isn't a metric that working photographers ever use.
Yes, it is your opinion. As this is mine. My issue is you consistently fail to apply the same standards across the board. For example, your love of the Sigma Fp but disdain toward Blackmagic and the Pocket 4K/6K, despite all of your complaints of the latter being true (and often even worse) on the Fp.

Finding a cheap, fun camera certainly can be part of the fun for those who can afford to buy one.  Another part of the fun is using inexpensive gear to shoot something compelling, which can be done with a camera that one already owns.

Why exclude those who can't buy a camera, merely because they can't afford to experience one part of the fun?

This is where the hi res mode in Lumix cameras is your friend and one of the reasons I went S5.
4k 50p. Check. It’s APSC crop though? Great...for me, my preferred focal range is between 50-100mm FF so ideal.
24mp stills which are more than enough for social/event work. Check, I don’t need or want 50mp+.

What about a hike into the mountains or a commercial shoot where I want/need a hi res shot for ultimate detail? Flick of a switch (and a tripod) and there is a 96mp raw file pretty much on par with the medium format Fuji. But the MF Fuji can’t do 24mp stills or 4K 50p so as a pony, does less tricks.
I’m in the compact, do as much as possible, in one single as cost-effective package as possible camp.
I know I risk sounding like a Panny fanboy, but I’m commending the tool not the brand.
I’ve said it before and will say it again and that is IMO, pound for pound, other than the less than stellar AF for video tracking, this little beast is hard to beat at anything.
