Yeah, since canon has the best colour in the world, why some guys even bother worry there is not log ,not ibis, not FF view 4k, not bsi sensor, even the codec from 90s work out just fine!
    Good work canon,sony sucks;)

Ha, his reasoning for lack of C-Log is complete BS. As Squig says, he's basically just told everyone who paid 5k for a C100, or more for C300, that they paid for a 'sticker'. Right... and there was me contemplating paying for that sticker...
The probable reason is that Canon cheaped out on the processors to save money, or haven't worked out how to draw the heat away from their DSLR, so in 4K it's not possible due to extra processing step. Or – and call me cynical – Canon left it out on purpose to protect C-Line and save development costs .
Fine, it's primarily a stills camera, but just say it as it is (like Matt Frazer from Panasonic would - he's awesome and honest). Enough of the BS, Canon, it's like listening to a politician not a camera manufacturer, and trust me, we've all had enough of that
Can't wait to see what Panasonic deliver with the GH5!! You know that everything they can put in, they will put in, in order to deliver the best tool they can for filmmakers. Paid update for VLOG like last time? Maybe, but will still be way less than half the price of the Mark IV. I feel so happy with my decision to stick with Panasonic bodies, investing in lenses and equipment to go with their cameras, as I know when it comes to the next upgrade cycle they will have my back.

I'm sure this will be a great camera to work with, shoot great images, do the job in many ways, etc, but as with all Canon cameras, the pricing and specs vs. that of its competitors just seem very underwhelming. If I had that sort of money ready to spend, I would choose an Amira

What a joke! Here it is anounced:
    http://www.canonrumors.com/canon-announces-the-eos-5d-mark-iv-dslr/
This is extraordinary, their press release is completely video oriented. They say that they listen to the video customer and brought the best video specs.
how funny that is... Yet no C-LOG, nor word on crop, prehistoric codec while they put a real one in the XC10. They take us for pigeons so pigeons can go and get it but I will pass!
Very sad to see those confirmed specs.

lol quite obviously. we are talking top bill FF DSLR versus a consumer pocket camera without even a viewfinder. I'd never consider a A6300 over my 5D3 or even a 6D. Too many compromises on usage but fact remains that sony gives access to full readout APS-C 4K, zebra/peaking & S-Log3 for $1K. Add a speedbooster and it's FF 4K! And of course native FF 4K with clean 4K HDMI output, EVF, SLOG, IBIS etc.. for $3K on the A7S2.  Sony offers all this, even though they also have a pricey FS cinema cam line. So my point is simply that Canon could include a few of these goodies on their 3.800 euro flagship 5D4. But no dice. Also, sorry for beating a dead horse here but 1.7x crop is just a real bummer. I buy a Full Frame for a Full Frame look/experience. It becomes even more important with 4K where you'd like the possibility of a jump-in crop in full HD timeline. Well now on the 5D4, my 35mm 1.4 L becomes a 60mm native in 4K.. and my widest 24mm L becomes a 40mm..  that just makes me cringe..

Here at EOSHD forums we are a highly-specialized, niche segment of the market. We speak and critique from that perspective.
I really don't care what the weekend warriors, vloggers, Japanese tourists and moonlighting wedding photographers do with their resources and purchasing decisions.
I'm sure Canon will sell well. That's not what we're discussing. The question to debate is whether the 5Dmiv is a competent tool for this community and whether it delivers the performance and value that we would expect from a $3200-3800 body.
Canon is free to turn up their noses at any segment they wish - yes, they will still sell to the hordes - but we are free to critique their merchandise and when we feel it's not up to par in the marketplace, free to state so. Just because they sell tons of cameras doesn't necessarily mean their cameras are adequate tools for sophisticated hybrid shooters. This is the perspective I'm critiquing them from.
Sony is releasing products geared to what you call a "tiny tiny tiny minority" - now why do you think such a big company is focusing on such a "tiny" segment? I guess Sony is jsut stupid, right?

But because of this segmentation, some consumers (such as myself) are not purchasing Canon bodies. Yes, I could invest into the cinema line, but I'd paying more for the equivalent I get in Sony and I lose the stills capability.
The segment that Canon is choosing to ignore is the hybrid shooter out there who has a need for sophisticated video features. Sony (and Panasonic to a lesser degree) is exploiting this segment because of it.
Yes, Sony products are far from perfect. But where else can you get a full frame, 4k camera with video assist features and log that can competently shoot stills? Is that too much to ask in 2016? Is that too much to ask from Canon?

Canon almost always have boring specs... They get slated by bloggers, the forums are rife with laughter and scorn. Then the footage comes out and people do a double take.
You only need to look to the blog owner here, a self confessed tech/spec head, to see this... He has the 1DC, C500 and XC10. All were mocked and generally considered underwhelming yet the image draws people in.
Canon are mugs if they don't put in c-log though... If it doesn't have c-log or ML... count me out.

So far it's just rumors but still boring specs. Knowing the Canon trend to cripple its DSLR I'm not very optimistic. First it's only 4k30p, then the huge deal breaker of MJPEG with massive file size and need to transcode. It's like Canon can't ignore 4k anymore but wants us to feel the pain of using it.
We can probably also forget about peaking and zebra. LOG i don't know but the 1DX doesn't have it. And is that going to be cropped ? What about aliasing and 4K quality, is that going to be like the usual Canon 1080 that looks like 720 ?
Last we have DPAF, that's great but if the image sucks and the video features are non existent, the benefit is very small. Looks like I'm going to keep my current camera and wait for the next Sony or GH line....
Conclusion: after holding it for as long as possible, Canon is finally jumping in the 4K train but in the worst possible way with weird specs that are going to be severely outdated in a few month by the upcoming competition that will to give us 4K60 and 6K30 soon. In 3 or 4 years I can't even imagine how theses ridiculous specs will look like...

Looking at profit over a decade is dangerous. You could have once said that Kodak was the most profitable camera manufacturer too.
Things have changed a lot since 2006 - and if you think Sony or Panasonic are simply going to go away, you'd be mistaken. Yes, Sony has had troubles in their camera division. But that doesn't mean they can't, or won't have success now.
Works for Sony - paid upgrade to unlock raw on the FS700, FS5 and FS7? Paid upgrade to shoot 4k on the F5? Paid upgrade to get Slog444 on the F3? etc. etc.
I think the big difference is Sony develops these cameras with an upgrade workflow - you still need to get accessories for the FS700, FS5 or FS7 to enable the raw output, but if you want to do it that option is available, it will just cost you a bit extra.
Would you prefer to pay $1,000 to enable 4k on your C100 or would you rather have to pony up thousands and thousands of extra dollars to buy a C300?
The 4k on the FS5 OOB isn't as good as the 4k on the FS7, but if you want to pay $500 you can get raw out of it. The FS5 fills a spot in the market where HD is necessary and 4k is nice to have. If you need 4k all the time, you can go for the FS7. If you buy a C100, you'll never be able to shoot 4k on it. Call it marketing hype if you like, but there's a lot more to gain from enabling even a somewhat crippled 4k mode than there is to have people at the point of purchase thinking about needing to hire something else if they ever want to shoot 4k.

    Andrew.
When I read that part about the image quality comparison of these 2 cameras, I was surprised. So I went to DPreview and put the images side by side to check.
    ???
xc10 image quality is no where close to RX10III. Honestly. It doesn't even offer RAW. You mentioned this under "cons" for Canon, but why not mentioning the same thing under "pros" for Sony?
Canon does not have to have a better image quality, I understand, but near 2000$ camera that doesn't offer RAW for this category of a camera is not easily acceptable, not only for me, for so many of us.
i really would like to believe you conducting this article unbiased. Having difficulties.

gelaxstudio reacted to Luke Mason in 1DC vs 1DX II Shootout
This is a non-scientific but comprehensive comparison of 1DC and 1DX II video quality. The 1DX II was kindly provided by Toronto based photographer Paul O'Neil
We tested sharpness/resolution as well as dynamic range and noise performance. Two cameras were setup side by side and kept the same exposure and white balance, videos were recorded at the same time to avoid lighting variance. Lenses were both Canon 24-70 f2.8L II, at f5.6 for optimal performance.
For sharpness/resolution comparison, we used neutral profile with 0, -4, -2, 0 setting.
Please view the following images using the FULL SIZE option.
    Test scene:

Results: 1DC and 1DX II have the same sharpness in HD 24/25/30p (same sensor readout). In 50/60p, 1DX II is sharper (better sensor readout) and it kept the same sharpness at 100/120p. Super 35 mode on 1DC remains the sharpest and most detailed 1080p of all modes. Two cameras have the same sharpness in 4K.
    Test scenes:

Results: in neutral profile with -4 contrast, 1DC and 1DX II have about the same amount of DR, however 1DX II is nosier in the shadow (more chroma noise). 1DC in C-Log gives more detail in the highlight.
Other observation: with the same white balance setting, 1DX II colour seems slightly warmer and a tad desaturated than 1DC in neutral profile.
Conclusion: 1DX II is a camera with advanced video capabilities (HD 120p, 4K 60p, DPAF), 1DC still deserves its "C" badge for the very detailed Super 35mm HD and higher DR C-Log. Which one is more suitable totally depends on user's need.
