It's perfectly unclear here what kind of Sony sensors Nikon use or to what extent any modifications are made by Sony sensor engineers or team Nikon themselves. And neither will tell you the truth.

The new patent is only for the specific tweak, not the old stuff.
Like I said, evolving CD into Blu-Ray doesn't prolong the patent for CD.

    Patents expire after 20 years.
The basic "internal compressed RAW" patent expires in april 2028. Or the end of the same year, I'm not sure.
In any case "the patent" only has four years to go.

The only thing which have kept the church of RED alive is the patent. And the insane mark up on cards, viewfinders, etc.
Patent is dead in four years regardless.
Also, RED is run like a surf shop which now meets japanese corporate culture. What could go wrong.

Mea culpa. The RED.com RAW patents was filed in 2007/2008, so will basically expire in 2028.
8 more years to go and we can give RED.com the finger.

Fear not. A patent is only for 20 years.
January 26, 2036 everything will be fine.

Not true! At least in body weight/size and price. GH5/GH5s/new Olympus are bigger, heavier, as expensive - as even some dSLRs are, and definitely a lot bigger and heavier than Z/A/a/NX cameras. Go check the numbers and you will see the truth. Cost, also. Even in the lower of the low there are full frame options now.
What that indicates is, that we haven't (not even close) fight the thermal monster yet. That applies to every digital appliance, especially to the ones that have to perform at the top of our digital performance capabilities, like cameras, editing laptops, military and industrial applications, e.t.c

Its more like $400 or more.
Panasonic has placed recording limits to try to limit overheating, some cleverly disguised as previous "30 min EU tax limit", but real reason is overheating.
Panasonic themselves warns about overheating in the spec text:
"*2 Maximum 15 minutes in 4K60p and unlimited recording time in Full HD until the SD Memory Card becomes full or the battery runs out.
*3 Maximum 29 minutes 59 seconds in 4K60p until the SD Memory Card becomes full or the battery runs out.
    – When the ambient temperature is high or continuous recording is performed, the camera may stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera cools down (*2*3)."

Such a flop. I was really anticipating that live ND, thinking it'll work like in the FS5 but in such a smaller body. I was hoping that maybe they figured it out and now Lumix or Sony will start adopting it. What a disappointment

EspenB reacted to webrunner5 in Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
I can't remember exactly, maybe 18 months ago Panasonic said all the 2020 Olympus was going to be shot in 8K. I think this camera is the camera they have been developing that long and more to shoot it with. And it is not going to be a 2500 dollar camera. It will be a 25 Thousand dollar camera or more. I am afraid people are hoping for something that is not going to happen, at least not on the cheap.
But I guess we will find out soon enough.

Finally here is the proof. I took the E-M1 Mk II sensor and superimposed it on top of the GH5. Marked the Oly sensor with red line for extra clarity.
GH5 sensor is 1,42:1 ratio. Same as the old GH2.
However, it's only utilized in C4K mode according to Driftwood.

    Something fishy are going on!
Even in the presentation video the sensor seems wider than the 4/3 GH4 sensor.
Also, measurements seems to indicate a 1,4ish aspect rato. (Suggesting a multi aspect ratio sensor like the GH1/GH2).
Yet, the pixel dimensons given for the various picture aspects are all the same pixel width. (And same height for 1:1 and 4:3 aspects).
    Strange!
UPDATE: The EM-1 Mark II sensor (20ish MP) clearly is in 4/3 aspect.
    The GH5 sensor seems wider.
Could be that they chopped off 1 MP at each side to improve read out speed.
Or could be because of IBIS.
