I don't think that's the case at all. $2000 for the GH5 two years ago was a steal. And frankly it still is able to do stuff all in one package that no other camera can do on the market in its price range.
It's really not fair to compare the A7iii to the GH5 because it can't compete with all of the GH5's features. The A7iii is a great camera but it lacks so many features of the GH5 and isn't a true alternative. If you're only going by sensor size you're missing the bigger point. The A7iii was/is a great value, but it doesn't have all of the film making features that the GH5 and no matter how big of a sensor you have, that's not gonna make up for missing them.

I'm not omitting anything. It's a comparison of the video specs. I thought it was pretty obvious.

@matthere That's the plan, I prefer video tutorials myself. As soon as I can, I will do that. I will be working over the holidays; currently enmeshed in site coding at the moment (server side back end that is a first for me). At its most simple, GHa is summarized as:
    1) Applying Main, Soft or Linear
    2) Setting Luminance (to conform to cinema luminance, outlined on the waveform guide)
Send me an email with a few tiff/dpx stills; I can do example grades with them and walk you through them

The protocol is the same so its a cautionary yes but I would need to test it on one.
Yes to focus control (and zoom if the lens supports it) on the analog stick.

The GH5 is getting on a bit now but is still delivering top notch image quality due to it's internal ( and external at 60p) 4k 4.2.2 10 bit codec. If you can't get excellent footage with this then your problems is not with the camera. Add to this the superb IBS and general ergonomic usability other manufacturers are still playing catchup. If anyone is worried about getting stuck in an M43 lens system then just get a speedbooster and use  APS-C/ s35 or full frame glass. A BMPCC4k is a cheap addition to any GH5 based system as it adds RAW, 60p internal and low light capability but it's not IMO a replacement.

I'm not sure I follow what you mean about buying all the options?
If you are talking about the different resolution options, then if you buy the €90 Multi Rez Stock Kit then you get all of them included.
Or are you talking about the overall cost when you add the controller?
As even with the more expensive option (the Arturia) its about €180, which is less than a fifth of the price of another option such as the BM Mini controller.
Having said that, the BM Mini controller is a very, very nice looking piece of kit.
I previously couldn't justify the cost of the available ones based on how much I did it but these and other lower cost solutions have given me pause for thought and I possibly will in the near future.
I'm very much in favour of anything that offers a tactile interface to applications, so I use numerous different MIDI controllers for controlling DAWs and synths and even Lightroom via the LrControl plugin.
And, of course, who can forget my very own custom real time Panasonic picture profile tweaker

Maybe I should revive that for Resolve !
For keyboard shortcuts for Resolve and other applications like FCP-X, Logic and Lightroom I use silicon keyboard covers like these

They are about £5 each on eBay and just lift on and off when you swap applications.
I also have a generic one for when I'm working as it keeps the elements out of the keyboard.
The other thing I've used for editing for years is the Contour ShuttleXpress.

I used to use the original one but the more compact one is enough for what I need for jog/shuttle and marking in and out points etc.
I'm not a colourist so I can't speak about it with any authority or insight whatsoever but I can definitely see where the wheels and trackballs would be a big boon, analogous as they are to the controls inside the software.
If you want to dip a toe in then Tangent (who make a series of lower cost hardware controllers for Resolve) have an app that can turn an android or iOS tablet into a virtual version.
The full price is £80 but they do a free version which you can use for an hour a day to see if its something that works for you.
I wasn't actually aware of it before myself so I think I might have a go as well.
    Video about it here

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was pretty close to just hacking off the connector from the mains supply if BM didn't get a move on with their cable kit and it looks like he ran out of patience before I did !
Thankfully my real cable kit is coming in a few days so I don't have to do it.
If anyone is interested in making their own custom cables - which might be a bit neater for some solutions as the official ones are 65cm long - then these are the connectors (make sure you order the 2 pin version obviously  )

matthere reacted to kye in Slow Motion in Resolve - I must be missing something
I hear you - it's like flying the space shuttle.
I think there are two paths you can take.  One is to do as @kaylee suggests and do a small project and search google and YT for the answers for every function.  If you learn best by doing then that's a good approach, but I think it's frustrating and you kind of miss out on the big picture about how Resolve works and how it's designed to be used.  My understanding is that the overall workflow is different to other packages.
The second one is to watch a thorough walk-through of the user interface so you can see how it's organised and what is available.  One of the key differences with Resolve is that there is so much stuff in there that is simply absent from PP / FCPX (especially in the Colour tab) and so if you only learn what tools you think you need you'll miss lots of the things that Resolve has that you didn't know existed.  If you're going to do this then find the longest and most thorough walk-through possible and just watch that.  There's nothing worse than watching a walk-through that isn't thorough and then having to watch another one where they repeat everything you just learned!
    A couple of points:
Unlike almost every other piece of software on earth, the Resolve Manual is absolutely excellent and will answer most of your questions, so look there before asking the internet about something The second place to look is the BM forums where someone might have asked the question before.  If you google then other sites pop up but mostly the people who actually know things are at the BM forums. Use YT for learning what buttons do what and what features are available, but don't try and learn colour grading / fusion / audio mixing or mastering from YT folks - they are mostly amateur hacks who use the wrong tool in the wrong way at the wrong time.  If you go down this route then you will spend a lot of time unlearning their techniques later on. If you want to hear from people who actually know about colour grading, then liftgammagain.com forums are the best (free) place I've found.  There are regular posters there who are polite and helpful who have been grading for decades and really know their stuff. You can also ask here..   Good luck - it's a long process but a worthwhile one IMHO.  Put on some music and attack it in bursts with good breaks

Thanks, I have the Kowa 2x and I'm gonna shoot a little test with it and the ProtoDNA soon. It does work but I find the Kowa 2x to be slightly more difficult to work with then the Bolex 8/19 or Baby Hypergonar. It's more difficult to pull focus and getting infinity is tricky. It still looks great. I have not tried the widest but a 50mm works with no 1.4x tele needed in 4k and works in 6k. Will post here when it's done. Cheers.

On initial tests, I'm really happy with it. It doesn't balance with the 18-35 from Sigma, but that's a long and heavy lens. I can't push the camera back on the mount far enough to centre the weight. I thought that would be the case anyway.
I've also tried with the Sigma's old 30mm 1.4, Canon 50mm 1.8 and 10-18mm (which I hacked to fit the Viltrox) they all balance well and seem to be a good set to have in mind on a gimbal. I think short or light lenses are the way to go. the 18-35 is neither.
I do need to add a weight onto the arm as the camera pulls down on the left, as seen in the videos I posted before. I was hoping I could mount the camera upside-down to make the weight more central, but that didn't work for me, it still pulled on the left. The good news though, is that the camera fits width ways, the right way up, without any adaptors / riser plates etc. the weight distribution is the only hangup and a very simple solution.
For now I've used an old phone and some velcro, but obviously that's not a long term solution. Heading to the hardware store to grab some washers and wingnuts today. That way I can easily adjust the weight depending on the lens I'm using. With the washers in place, I'll upload some photos.

Isn't the truth now that all modern cameras produce very good images and the differences between them are more a matter of taste and style than of one being markedly better than another. The flaws I see in footage these days seem to come more from operator error in either the capture or the post production stages.

Outside shots in 4k with Bolex 8/19 1.5x anamorphot with MeVis 35mm f1.6. Shot at f2.8 with ND filter. Rectilux ProtoDNA variable diopter was used as well as Fujinon Close Up attachment. Resolve is the future. Even if Abobe  Premier matches Resolve’s features, their subscription sales model is not for me.  I bought my Resolve Studio dongle with my BMCC a few years ago and it keeps getting better without any upgrade fees so far - a fantastic end user experience IMHO.
I thought the video was well done, but you can tell the Abobe staff is in their comfortable bubble of branding that “we are the best”.  I can’t blame them, it’s a nice gig if you can get it and they might as well enjoy it while they can, because it ain’t gonna last forever.
Adobe lost me when they stopped selling and started renting their software.  I pretty sure I am not the only person who is stuck on the last version of Adobe CS they purchased and have moved on alternative software out of economic necessity or rebellion against Abode’s evil empire. The thing about Empires is that they always come to an end when they become corupt and exploit and abuse their power...

I thought the Weebill would be P4K ready, I do not like all these mods to make a very modern and recent gimbal to work.
I will be waiting for the official release, but I believe they will have something ready for it very soon.
They are also from the same continent (the Weebill bird and the Black Magic company), so they have to figure it out!

The 0.58 metabones won't cover the sensor unless the camera is in window mode for the 1080 120fps, so is not usable in UHD or 4K in non windowed mode, to be clear about this. But if you have one from an original pocket it can give you a wider option when windowed.
I did try this on my P4K, but I am not advocating others try this themselves ?
