  2. I created a fast transcoding app for in-house use and thought it might be useful to others: you can get it here. I added benchmarking features so you can easily see performance differences between codecs and settings: ETA to complete, MB/s, and FPS. With example NX1 files, it can do ~46fps converting 4K H.265 to 1080p ProRes LT (12-Core 2010 Mac Pro running Win7). Sony A7S Mp4 files can be converted to ProRes LT at 192 FPS. It can rewrap A7S and FS700 files for use with Resolve 11 and audio. Also works well for high-quality GH4 4K to 1080p (Lanczos scaler). 422 10-bit H.264 (XAVC) in both IPB & ALL-I as well as H.265 output also provided for experimental use.

  3. The only bad thing about the A7S's colour is people's limited grading skills

  4. In that price range for cinema work if you need RAW, KineMINI. You can use cineform when your shooting interviews, and raw for more post intensive projects. Keep in mind you have to rig it out and pay more for 4K and Hi-speed. Don't use Mark 3 Raw on a professional shoot. Creative projects, sure. Never on a set where reliability is a concern. Also, like you said before the KineMINI will make your clients believe they are getting more for their dollar. Also you get in camera backup to SSD with the KineMINI, a godsend if something goes wrong.

  5. "Moire and aliasing all over NX1 footage! omg!" Yeah that thread title isn't negative toward the NX1 at all. Also again I asked what you are playing it on currently, can't fix the problem without knowing if your playing it on a PC/Mac or on a TV. For PC Pot player is my current favorite to play the original H.265 files on, runs smooth with no scaling issues on my 1080p monitor.

  7. Like it or not, entertainment doesn't work like the real world. Millions ride on the creative talents of often deeply flawed individuals. Ultimately, it's the BBC 's call, but they likely knew what this guy was about and looked the other way because he was making them millions. This kind of reminds me of the whole "Duck Dynasty" dust up here in the States, that ended with Phil Robertson keeping his job after A&E pretended they had principles. Don't get me wrong, the BBC has no principles, or they wouldn't have let it get this far. They just wanted to stick their heads in the sand and make money. They just don't want to come clean that all they care about is money, like A&E eventually did.

  9. What are you using to play it? Are you running the video on your PC to the moniter? What software? Off a USB stick? Like others above me pointed out, this is a fault of bad scaling, not the camera. I hate negativity about a product created by user incompetence.

  10. There's barely any aliasing or moire at all. Just convert the clips to 1080p or 720p to match your display then judge the amount of aliasing or moire. From my experience there's is none!

  11. throw the nx1 into the trash and get another camera! that's what I would do if I was upset like you.

  12. Just a precision: in Europe all cameras have a limit of 30min :/ And I went through hardware issues with both my gh3 and gh4, but not with my NX1 yet - I think it's a matter of luck also, and early adopter being treated as "beta testers"... (for both companies) - Also to be fair, the customer support in Paris is very good concerning panasonic's camera. Haven't tested the samsung service yet. Also my NX1 fell on the concrete when I was shooting in a rainy day in NY and nothing happened to it. It continued filming in the snow, in the rain, in the sun. I can speak highly of the NX1 reliability. - Don't wanna sound like a NX1 fanboy, I still can't sell my GH4 - I'm really attached to how small and easy to use it is.
