ktfright reacted to MurtlandPhoto in Z-cam E2-M4 is worth a second look now that it does Pro Res internally at all frame rates including 4k @ 120fps, 4K 2.4:1 @ 160fps & 1080p @ 240fps.
I actually think they have one of the best naming conventions in the whole industry. All the cameras are in the E2 generation, but M4 is m43 4K, S6 is s35 6K, F6 is FF 6K, and F8 is FF 8K. Compare that to a7siii, FX3, C70, etc. when trying to judge specs at a glance. Even Blackmagic's convoluted naming at least lets you know what the cameras offer 😅

Literally, the first thing underneath the name of the camera is:

    HANDHELD.....
I carefully read the page looking for IBIS, but no mention of it.  So, it's handheld for the same reason that any other camera under 3Kg is handheld.  Excuse me while I sip my handheld coffee, contemplate all my handheld lenses and handheld memory cards and type this on my handheld laptop.
I'd like to see them create the GH5 successor.  It's an entirely different market, but within reach.
People loved the GH5 for video because:
IBIS reliability, no overheating, and battery life good codecs anamorphic and slow-motion modes flippy screen MFT lens mount can adapt most other lens mounts compact and light for hand-held and gimbal use low price for the features (at the time) The BM cameras meet quite a lot of these, but for many including myself, the P4K is a mixture of things I don't want/need and the absence of things I use all the time.  I own a Micro, their cheapest current camera, and it's nothing like the GH5 in terms of usability - apart from being cheap it has almost nothing in common with the GH5 or how I shoot for that matter.  I'm aware that the GH5 is a hybrid, but I suspect many users don't care about stills, and besides, BM don't seem to understand that the P6KPro isn't a hybrid.
I think there's room in their lineup for a more video-centric camera that fits into the above spec, and it wouldn't be cannibalising much of their existing customer base, as not many GH5 fans could use a P4K, and not many P4K fans could use a GH5.
There seems to be an entire market segment of wedding videographers, music video creators, social media influencers, who are faced with the choice of a camera that can shoot how they want (reliable in the field and fast to work with) and what they want (RAW and high-bitrate/bit-depth codecs) but there aren't many cheap offerings that span this gap.  These people are doing comparisons like A7S3 vs Komodo vs C70 and the like.
These comparisons always have the tone of Lamborghini vs Hummer vs Mercedes S-Class - all great performers but for vastly different tasks and if these things are being directly compared then there is something wrong.  Oh, and nothing is remotely affordable.  This seems like a gap in the market to me.

Even crewed productions still have budget worries. Thus they'll choose the DoP's S1H over renting an ARRI.

Or perhaps they're shooting in a bathroom, or in a car (or outside a car! Rigged up), or with lots of tricky moving gimbal shots. Plenty of reasons why you'd choose the S1H over a bigger camera, even if you had a larger budget.

Maybe? I think members here just aren't that interested in the E2. Though it's an extraordinarily awesome Facebook group, especially a few years ago when it was very small. It's recently grown to the point of having a lot of repeat questions.

Well since that quarantine got us all...
I struggle a lot with inactivity, so i had to make a short film... Almost alone, by my self.
The point of this is just to entertain and motivate others to make, create even on this times.
PD: I had a Panasonic S1 that was let to me for testing. I used this for the film.

    1. Show us a picture of your current most used camera and lens
At the bottom is a rather unglamorous photo in my work shop of my Nikon Z6 with a Vizelex ND throttle adapter, and Zacuto viewfinder, and one of the set of Canon FD lenses I love to shoot the out and about hand held videos I often shoot and edit. In studio I use mostly Canon cameras. I've owned a BUNCH of them: C100, C100Mk ii, C300 Mk ii, C200, EOS R...right now most of my videos in-studio are made on the XC-15, mainly because of the good audio of that camera. Shooting handheld video with fast primes, especially  on the long end---like the 2.8 200 mill on the Nikon in my photo, is difficult and a challenge. But what I lose in some shots I gain in others...and I love the freedom and spontaneity of hand held shooting.
    2. Tell us a few facts about yourself!
Began as a professional clarinetist. After years of university teaching I got involved in manufacturing and designed an entire line of professional clarinets for one of the three great French clarinet makers: G.Leblanc Corp. Began my own clarinet company in 2005 and we now produce clarinets of my design and send them to both professionals and advanced players all over the world--everywhere except Antarctica.
In 2000 I wrote the first complete pedagogy in the history of the clarinet---my interest in education has never flagged.  That combined with owning a business to promote lead to me producing now over 200 educational videos on every aspect of the clarinet. Learning video over the years got me hooked on it as a "Ding an sich." Since then I've done a lot of videos---working to wed music and images---with varying and marginal degrees of success. Quixotic as it may be I persist---I just love making stuff.  Here's one I last fall with the Pani S1.

    3. What's your favourite music, favourite sport / team, other hobbies
Brahms, Beethoven,Schubert, Mozart---especially German Lieder. Hate the mostly trash I hear blasted at people everywhere.
    4. What your hopes are for the future of EOSHD, what would you like me to cover - and the camera you are looking forward to most?
You do a fantastic job, and you reviews have few peers. I just hope to continue to benefit, with my obvious limitations of time, from all you and the "video wokafile" pros share here. The whole video community owes you a continuing debt of thanks.
    5. Tell me what you miss about your country and home town when you are not there
My family, hands down. I'm glad most of my traveling days are over--for several reasons, not the least of which is it is getting to be an increasingly dangerous world. Though I do hope to visit my daughter and her family if we can get past this scourge. They live in....Barcelona, of all places.
    6. The year you first started reading EOSHD
Probably about 2013. Not sure when I actually gave myself an identity.

Hey Andrew, what a great idea!
    1. my most used camera is the GX85 with either Fujinon Cmount 12.5mm 1.4 or boosted Canon FD 28mm F2.8. Most current camera is the Lumix S1 with different flavors of FD mount lenses like Vivitar 90mm Macro or Canon FD 20mm. Super fun focal lengths and lenses on the larger sensor. So here is a pic of my most recent camera which puts out an incredible image even in its 8bit 709 profiles, coupled with the Vivitar 90mm.
    2. I´m a filming addict who needs his daily camera exercises. To this day I admire old school Eoshd articles and the film making essays of Tony Zhou, which are magnificiant for everyone who wants to learn film. Film making to me is a rather personal than industrial affair. I enjoy to be on creatively challenging sets with limited resources. Have been a gaffer for quiete a few gigs now and hope these guys don´t forget pay me back on my sets some day:)
    3. favorite hobby is getting lazy and growing a belly.:) I love stills photography and used to love any kinds of sports. Favorite athletes are Katharina Witt, Mike Tyson and Zidane.
    4. I am looking forward for EOSHD to stay  welcoming towards different people, flavors and opinions other than mine.:) I wish for some friends to come back like @kidzrevil, @maxotics and others. I would love more articles of overseen gems and nerd machines like LX100, modded Sony A6000 or the Pentax lens which is a Zeiss. And most of all more film vignettes by Andrew Reid, the man himself!  I would have loved a follow up blog post on the EOSHD 200EUR camera challenge. Would love more official and moderated challenges like that.
    5. I miss certain things in culture, arts, solidarity, intellect, kindness and sensuality the most, since commercial culture and dull salesman blahblah and mentality have been pushing anything else aside.
    6. First time reading Eoshd could have been around 2012 when reading about the GH2 on dpreview. Beautiful times!
Now, interested in your posts, dear friends!

But seems some don't even read what I said...I don't care which way you voted, as long as you don't bring unethical toxic idiotic posts into my community.
In addition there are literally people joining the forum to steer a political discussion in a topic or steer a thread off-topic, in favour of their idol Trump.
This is deeply suspicious and points to a kind of fake user linked to a campaign of some sort.

Sorry, but you are wrong here. 62,984,828 people voted for Trump, vs 65,853,514 for Clinton, so nearly 3 million more voted for Clinton. Why isn't SHE president? Thank our regressive electoral college system put in place by aristocratic southern slaveholders. More importantly, we're a country of 323.4 million people (2016 figures). More than half the country, 186,730,724 give or take, didn't vote at all. There are many reasons for this, including economic and educational factors. But a key reason is the Republican's massive and long running voter suppression efforts in states they control, which targeted low-income, minority and other likely left-leaning voters. Their tactics include voter roll purges, restriction of access to polling places, spurious polling place vote challenges, discouragement of absentee ballots, and the list goes on.
What's the upshot here? America, the home of democracy, suffers from massive political disenfranchisement. Yes, the Cheetoh in Chief's supporters are vocal, rabid some would say. But they absolutely don't represent half of the American populace. And if our political system was actually more fair and representative, he wouldn't be our president.
When it comes to sound advise, I'll definitely seek out your advise. But please don't try to explain our politics to us. I won't speak authoritatively on Kiwi politics either, I'll just sit here and imagine how cool it will be when I finally get to fly over and visit.

In the midst of the most impactful global event since WWII, what exactly should anyone here expect to happen?
Our careers are tied up in this mess.  When people in power make things messier, it matters.
Also curious that an argument you're making is essentially telling people that trying to be informed is a big problem.
Ignorance is hardly an effective refuge at this time.  I wish people were more informed, not less informed.  It could have saved us weeks of inaction.
But you did say "turn off the news" which implies television media, and yes, that's pretty much nonsense.  Are you watching FNC much?  They've been on the "gosh, this is serious" side of things for only about a week. Coincidentally, someone named Donald has been as well.
Coincidentally again, some FNC talking head made the same complaint you made about "the media" last night, criticized Dr. Fauci in the process, and then DT hit caps lock while repeating the same sentiment online.
And here we are mentioning that same sentiment in a camera forum the next day.
    Checks and balances indeed.

You can see this yourself without asking a sales department, but you will need access to their page / ad account management.
For example, your videos might be sequenced in a series of FB Ads for an e-commerce brand.
At the first stage, you show an awareness video to a cold audience.
Secondly, segment the audience that has watched 50% + of the first video and show them product focused videos for website traffic.
During their research they’ll see promos, explainers, how-to’s etc around the web. Some will convert to a sale, others won’t.
Those who don’t convert need a reminder or incentive, based on their online behaviour. So you use content re-marketing like testimonial videos to nudge them back to the basket.
Whatever the objectives are, you can measure the ad spend behind the videos against a tracker event that will show you the sales conversion amount.
I have someone else to manage the distribution aspect, but I have to understand it so my creative approach is also strategic. This is also how I speak to a client. They feel they are being served by someone who knows how to make video work specifically for their business need.
At the end of the day, I just love shooting and editing stuff really!

Depends on the job, and I would advise anyone to think beyond getting a day rate.
The thing about day rates is they aren’t scalable.  They are based on time, and with only so many days you can work in the week, you can’t incline your income steadily. You could charge more, but then, you’re going to have to be a master specialist to achieve that.
If it’s not TV, film or music videos....I advise anyone to not position themselves as a “videographer” or “filmmaker”. Instead you frame yourself as a business solution. Instead of talking about what shots you want to do, you talk about how you will get them a business result.
This differentiates you from the over saturated  “videographer” role  - which in fact a lot of the  industry see as “low cost” and easy to negotiate your price down. You appear as a “problem solver” who can grow their business.
Also, getting the client to think more about the business result allows you more freedom with the creative stuff!

I'm not sure how much you know about vintage glass, so forgive me if I'm telling you things you already know...
One thing I find useful is this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance which lists flange distances, and everything with a greater flange distance than the mount you're using (EF in your case) should be easy to convert.
For me, the interesting ones might be: M42, Pentax K, M39 (if you're interested in much earlier vintage glass), Contax C/Y, Nikon F (lots of great Nikon glass around)..
