leslie got a reaction from Jimmy G in How about a good old Camera Blind Test?
i went with j and j. In the gunpowder shot, i just like the moodiness or darker frame. I have a natural preference for a low key image i think. The lake scene because i had already gone for j kinda predetermined a vote except i did a goldilocks thing and decided i was too little and k was too much j was just right. i didnt do a 2nd or third place.
from a newbies perspective i think that perhaps a lot of people from this forum probably made a science experiment out of it and literally tore those images apart. however i suspect a lot of people that watch mattias's channel are a bit like me and picked images they like without too much analysis which is why j and j won.
it is a bit embarrassing i have the bmp4k camera and i like it. but it didn't pick it in the contest. Don't worry i'm not that distressed, that theres going to be a bmp4k on ebay anytime soon ? I also watched it in 1080 on a laptop. With a pretty average internet connection and download plan 4k seems a little excessive too me. So i get by on hd when i can. not sure if watching it in 4k would have made a difference and going back to do it again maybe camera choice would change but then i know more now than i did before so its not that relevant and the results biased. thanks for the test matthias and the others for their input i learned a couple of things which i guess is what its all about

The results are in. Some are a little funny, others kinda expected but still interesting.
When I counted the first time a few days ago the funny part was that J wasn't to far behind I. But I didn't expect this.
(BTW, this morning J was still in the lead between the two.)

The crappy corners in that Video are produced by the cheapo speed booster he is using, the takumar is a good lens.

Good luck getting that St. Bernard into a cardboard box let alone getting it into a bikini.

there's been some great advice from you guys especially andrgl your insight is quite enlightening. The one thing that ticks me off is the like and subscribe moment in pretty much every video. I know there's been fair amount of time spent making and uploading a video and we all know everyone is after every like and subscribe they can get, but asking people to like or subscribe comes across as needy or desperate or even tacky at times, to me anyway. If you can come across as not being needy you'll do alright i think. When you make the video of washing the pup try to catch him shaking all that water off in glorious slow motion then mix it up a bit with a segment of some kind like howto clip a dogs toenails properly something like that. like others have said give people some great footage of fido running through the forest when you get him home twist it to what ever brush you use to clean him up and flog it or link to it maybe even try approaching the brush manufacturers. Hmm i think i can see a pup in my future ?

how does the fd modification work ? my understanding is the flange distance is the issue and most of the mods have to include some glass to correct the problem. To get around that would include major surgery and a large pile of coins right ?
btw i dont see any tint at this end from your pics maybe its your friends phone ?

A couple shots from the Canon FD 50mm 1.2 L that I had modified to EF mount. The more I use the lens, the more I like it. I’m still flying blind with my MacBook Air. I am pretty set with lenses, so now I need to decide on a monitor/computer. Since these are all color tests just to look at the footage, I have time to make a decision before editing begins. I looked at some of my previous frames on my friend’s phone and they had a greenish tint that I’m not seeing on my computer and phone... I haven’t checked these, but I assume they aren’t exactly what I’m seeing... ugh.

I win!

4K for £135
But this got me thinking as well... What if we have a fun "EOSHD Challenge" where we all trawl the bargain bins in our local towns and online, pick something for super cheap, could be $50, $100, no more than $150 or $200...
Make a video with it.
Then the winner is judged in a poll - on artistic merit, and technical image quality (can be 1080p of course)
The winner, wins the camera of the last place guy ?
Plus a special bonus camera from EOSHD.
What do you think? Worth setting up a challenge like this?

*** RESOLVED! ***
A few guys over on facebook suggested using a hair dryer. And it seemingly did the trick! That, WD40 and a shit load of hard taps to the focus barrel ?
Here's the process I used:
Apply WD40 into the grooves of the focus barrel. Wipe off the excess liquid and leave for 24hrs. Use hair dryer on low setting, high heat over focus barrel and inside grooves. Tap hard around focus barrel with palm. Try to twist barrel and tap some more. repeat step 2 (if needed). repeat step 3 (if needed). Hopefully this might be of help to others too.
Next Step: Clean, re-grease, re-build and at some point -- TEST.
Best,
-- B
