Honestly i been meaning to ask the question about brick walls, been giving it a little thought. I feel your a little too condescending towards the unambiguous brick wall. I'm not sure they deserve being slighted by you. Personally i like em, their strong, upright in character, come in a range of colours, they usually built square and level, they don't move around much, which is handy when you want to go back for another lens test shot. They do give you a cheap way to test for three specific aberrations in a lens: rectilinear distortion, edge sharpness, and vignetting. They may not give you the mtf of a lens or how many lines of resolution a lens will resolve. I do think there's room in everyone's digital darkroom for brick wall test chart.?
edit : there is veydra mini cimema primes on ebay at the moment whether any of them are good prices i dont know

I haven’t, but I’m sure there are still funny rare variants floating around. I’ve been stalking eBay for almost a decade now, and I still occasionally see scopes that surprise me.
Theres actually a BIG brother to this scope (CinemaScope Attachment I and CinemaScope Attachment II), and I’ve combined front/rear from each with excellent results. Though the squeeze is reduced to only 1.33X, the angle of view compatibility is massive. The only  downsides are fixed (infinity) focus, no variable diopter large enough to cover so wide, and (obviously) weight. Other rear elements I’ve got can make it around a 1.5X squeeze which is more useful for most of my applications.
Maximum compatible focal length of the anamorphic front block is inversely related to the squeeze factor resultant from various rear block pairings... this results in a constant maximum horizontal angle of view, regardless of the squeeze factor. The 1.33X combo may work with a 17mm, and the 1.5X with only a 20mm... but the view angle is the same in both after factoring in the horizontal gains of the anamorphic.
Thus, combining various front and rear anamorphic blocks may change the squeeze factor, and may increase taking lens compatibility, but the actual maximum angle of view will always be identical to that of the donor scope of the front anamorphic block.
If I dare, I might some day combine some different rear groups with my Kowa 16-H to attempt a conversion to 1.5X squeeze, but even at 2X, it remains the widest projection scope out there.
When I dug into these B&L lenses I was pretty disheartened to learn of the inevitable balsam separation and how difficult it is to successfully re cement anamorphic blocks. They produce some beautiful images, and if tuned correctly, can be very sharp. I wish some of the modern anamorphic adapter manufacturers would take note... there’s still no substitute for simple glass, simple optical formulas, and just scaling it as big as is needed to make that work even without fancy coatings. Sure it’s heavy, but the big glass just... works.

Hi guys. This won't be a gear-related post, but more of just a thread to show you something important to me.
This summer was rough. Fiance left, both parents got cancer, lost my grandparents and that is just the tip of the iceberg. So in July, i left. I packed a duffle and booked a studio apartment outside Reyjkavik for a week. Of course, I took my BMPCC4K. This is not so much a gear "look at how good my shots and coloring are" (kinda) but more I just wanted to share this place with everyone.. even if it is just a little slice.
For the grade, I converted BMDFilm to Linear, CST to LogC, and from there use the Impulz Cineon process, using 5207 on input and 2383 on output and graded in between.

been in a bit of a hacking or modifying stage lately. bought a 28-32mm step up ring and some double sided tape cut out a inner and outer diameter that matched the ring and mounted it to the 15mm olympus body cap lens i have, i also bought a 32-37mm step up ring as that seems to be the most common filter sizes to get hold of. I wanted a small adapter on the face of the camera so i could easily move the lens cover lever. When it rains again i want to be able to hang some nd of it and video some waterfalls in the area  or uv perhaps. the double sided tape seems quite robust it shouldn't move anytime soon.
the first helicoid for the  russian lens i bought has arrived. turns out that i had a short adapter that fitted the m39 to mft mount and solved my issues. however the enlarger lenses i have tried on the helicoid don't focus to infinity. It was kind of expected as i have read online that there is issues with getting anything shorter than 70mm to focus at infinity. Apparently custom short mounts are required. the last pic is of the el nikor 63mm enlarger lens mounted on a 60d, i can focus out to about 3-4 meters. But i want more so the quest will continue.

Modified Sigma's smaller grip to allow it to hold a T5; haven't printed it yet so not so sure how comfortable it is.

Success... was watching tv going through a box of different adapters that i had stashed away, not sure if i have infinity focus yet, will try that tomorrow.

you could get a russian nap for less than $100 most likely  but you need to factor in lens clamps and such, after that the price just goes goes up. I think i spent about $300 for an elmoscope then more on a lens clamp and still more yet if i get a front mounted variable diopter. Anamorphics isn't really a cheap sport.
i wouldn't recommend a nap, their big and heavy . a normal projection scope will be a lot smaller and lighter and easier to mount but need double focus or buy a fvd
people that are selling on ebay generally know what anamorphics are worth, and its getting harder to find really good deals plus there seems to be alot more interest in anamorphics lately
theres at least one facebook page for anamorphics however i find that people on there tend to think the anamorphic lens their selling is gold plated, so i wouldn't recommend facebook. for a good sale
Of course its all relevant to your budget and what your willing to pay not to mention if you want buy something to shoot tomorrow or are prepared to build something over a longer term .

some of you are no doubt aware that there's a bit of a drought going on in australia at the moment. I have access to a well on a bush water reserve across the road from my place. This place is normally abit of a swamp but at the moment the water level is down about 18 feet. At the moment i pump about 500 liters  out of it every few days for stock and domestic. Not sure how the other locals are faring with the water situation i moved an old bath next to the pump and top it up every time i pump water.  the plan is to hammer a few star pickets in and hang the gopro of them and timelapse it all, see what turns up for a drink.

I also am looking at a new computer, my desktop died several months ago. For now i get by with dell i5 laptop, it runs resolve ok.... albeit slowly perhaps, i could probably throw some more ram at it one day. but i keep buying camera bits and pieces. ?

At the risk of getting gutted by kaylee, i'd like to mention i have seen some new movie trailers for a movie named hustlers. it looks rather interesting. Seeing its a big screen release i assume its has a bit substance than most of the other stuff thats been posted in this thread. looks like an interesting take on women getting some of their own back on wall street. i googled it seems like rotten tomatoes liked it but audiences were less favorable, anyone likely to see it ?

actually i tried two enlarger lenses, one projection lens, and the russian lens that arrived today . I'm not really surprised i have read that the once you go lower than 70mm or so with enlarger lenses its harder to get infinity focus and you need shorter and shorter mounts. The el nikor 63mm enlarger lens is notoriously difficult to get infinity focus without a custom mount. I didn't think this russian lens was an enlarger lens i figured it would mount up to m42 and i'd be away but its m39 which is a popular size for enlarger lenses and i dont read or speak  russian so theres a good chance that maybe it is an enlarger lens ?. I'm not too perturbed i have a bunch of adapters of different thicknesses, two helicoids yet to arrive.
