What's Technical Artists angle? Ad revenue?

Sony A7S III
In: Cameras
I think Sony is just concerned with keeping Sony users in the Sony ecosystem with this release. And I think they'll mostly succeed, given the issues/concerns with the R5.

This custom sensor is a very interesting story.
If BM, a much smaller company than Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fuji, etc...could design and order to manufacture a custom sensor (and, by the description, a VERY sophisticated one), why these companies still are hostages of Sony sensor-wise?
(albeit looks like that Nikon started to use Towerjazz sensors)Probably cost. The specs explain the $10k price tag, but it also probably covers the increase in sensor costs since the camera itself isn't wildly different than previous URSA cameras, using most of the same tech.

I'm impressed that a camera didn't overheat in air conditioned buildings.

Repair/replacement is very different for a $500 camera versus a $10K camera
You're not wrong, I was just sharing my experience.

When I had issues with the OG Pocket I had to deal with them over email, but they were pretty quick to handle things. I sent them the camera, they said they couldn't fix it but would send me a new one, which arrived in 2 days. I don't think it took longer than 10 business days total, which for me wasn't bad at all though for high end clients they might need quicker turn around times.

please, that lot of people you are talking about is only 1%.
Proof? And why do you care if others want to talk about it?

Hmmm.....
Don't use auto exposure?
Don't try and use IBIS as a replacement for a gimbal?
Use a camcorder for recording longer static pieces?
I have no desire to have multiple different camera set ups for my work. I'm quite happy with my Panasonic cameras, they check all the boxes currently for my pro-wrestling, commercial, wedding, and corporate work.
I'm not using my gimbal for pro-wrestling where I'm running around a venue for 4 hours 🤣
I'm not the one that started the thread, I was just giving my experience to the OP.

You do understand that they have the best 4k in the market for their price range and very comparable to much more expensive offerings? And it is recorded internally as well? Why the fuck do you need IBIs? Trembling hands? 😃 Panasonic has a much smaller sensor to deal with, Canon R5 IBIs seems to be a major technological advancement compared to the tv/video look of panasonic ibis... Aps Lenses weigh fuck all and Fuji has the best glass for APS since it was not created as an afterthought to their Full frame equivalents.
You can very easily grade h265 400mbps footage in a 1080p timeline with a decentish computer, using optimised media/cache/proxies in Resolve. People that say otherwise should read the Fucking Manual...( I am using an intel 630 gpu so that is as low as it gets)
I need IBIS because I shoot handheld in active situations. Canon IBIS wasn't around when I made my post.
Fuji's 4K is lovely, but their exposure stepping is jarring. Again, for my uses, that's kind of a deal breaker.
Recording limits are the ultimate deal breaker for me. I need to be able to record for hours straight. Non negotiable.
Like I said, Fuji intrigues me but they don't check all the boxes yet. Once they work the kinks out there's a good chance I'll invest in the system, their colors are my favorite.

The original idea to use a S16 camera was the lower cost and the flexibility to perform shoots with a small camera, the French filmmakers take these cameras to the streets in places where 35mm camera were too much difficult to operate, and that was the spirit until the rise of the digital era, now we have very small cameras which can be used exactly like S16 cameras use to be in the past. The digital bolex keep that original intention, a small and very easy to use camera which can be used in extreme situations and places, where the only limit is filmmaker imagination. The BM is clearly not a good choice for a S16 camera, it's a bigger camera, heavier, will have a lot of limitations compared to a digital bolex, there is no a good reason to get this camera to do S16, the only reason I will use a camera so big like this to do S16 is because of it is a film camera, yes, an old and beautiful original film camera, which by the way I have, and I use to do some documentary, I only have like 12 minutes to shoot for each roll, but what you get for all the effort is worth. This new BM camera is oriented to be operated by a crew, to compite in that segment with RED, not for an independent creator, sure you will see some crazy guy running with this brick in his shoulders and telling to the world is the best camera for run and gun, but we all know the best performance for this kind of cameras can only be achieved with a crew, even a smaller crew will make a huge difference.
No need to try to justified this camera as the perfect tool for every scenario, it is what it is, it is too expensive for individuals, it is oriented for crew work to compite with RED cameras. It will find his place in the market for sure, if you have a small production company probably this camera is the perfect tool, I can see the point to get it for some people, but probably most companies will stay using RED and ALEXA just because of when the customer is on set he is expecting to see that kind of cameras filming his commercial. Time will tell.

I think I confused it with the Deity that @Thomas Hill mentioned!

Can we get rid of these anonymous "experts" and bring back your @Mattias Burling's and @John Brawley's please?

Ok, whatever you want. Keep evaluating camera bodies by how they place the buttons and thinking that all magnesium alloy bodies are the same 🤷.
Anyways. BM needs a proper high quality metal body like RED and ARRI. That's one of several steps to get into the major leagues.
You're deflecting. Indeed they aren't all the same, but there's also a hell of a lot of difference between PLASTIC and MAGNESIUM ALLOY, and you made it real clear that you had no idea what the camera was even made out of before critiquing it for being "plastic" and suggesting they add $5000 to the price. So yeah, "dude," you were clearly talking out of your ass and won't even admit it.

Dude, I'm sorry, but if you take a RED in one hand and a URSA in the other hand you will notice immediately which camera is a toy and which one is not. That's a fact. If you don't want to see it it's your problem.
The 7D it's also magnesium alloy. That's not an argument if we are gonna talk about reliability in different environments and extreme usage. That's where Blackmagic fails.
"Dude" you literally called it plastic multiple times and didn't know the camera was metal. You've been talking out of your ass.

It's not about how they "look", come on are you serious? A plastic body against a metal/magnesium body it's night and day in terms of reliability. It's night and day if you work on set with the camera powered on all day and it's a huge difference if you work on harsh conditions like extreme cold and heat. It's not about "button accessibility". Please be serious.
Again, it is a magnesium alloy body! At least do your research, jeez.

For me Blackmagic already has the technology. They have the sensors, the software, and the ecosystem. Now they need to work on reliability. Add $5000usd and transform the plastic body of the Ursa 12K into a magnesium/metal body and work harder to solve the sensor issues, color cast, etc. They also need better customer service.
It is a magnesium alloy body.

Holy shit, are we really complaining about how it looks now? It's not going to win any awards, but it looks fine. All the buttons are easily accessible and it's easily rigged up.
Are we really gonna pretend that RED cameras are good looking? They're boxes with a mid 2000s gun anesthetic.

Kinda crazy how much used GH2's are going for on eBay here in the US!

That footage looks stunning. You're really reaching.
