Sony A7S III

This is so depressing.
People should never, ever buy a camera that needs some kind of third party cooling solution. Don't reward companies that put out cameras like that.

M'kay.. Touché.
Nonsense. A7S3 is a technical masterpiece & is as perfect as it gets!
He loved the C300 and literally released a video saying it was his favorite camera.
3 weeks later he received a camera to try out that he preferred and instead placed an order for 3 of them.
Not everything is a conspiracy. It's okay to disagree with his conclusions, but let's be real.

Even if the "regular" 4K doesn't overheat... You're gonna pay $4K for line skipped 4K30p?

And Hugh Brownstone, who got 23 minutes outside in 88 degree weather.
Honestly any overheating makes me nervous. I guess I'm just spoiled with the GH5 and G85?

They're far from perfect but they've definitely improved them. I liked the footage I saw in Potato Jet's video especially.

I don't mind Panasonic AF since the updates, but it's clearly what is holding a lot of people back from going with them.
The biggest problems they have for their full frame offerings are AF and lack of native lenses.

I thought the colors I was seeing out of the A7siii looked pretty decent personally.

The footage I've seen looks really good. The colors aren't too bad either. I really wish they'd fix the IBIS.
I'd love to see someone test it in a really humid situation. While I don't film in direct sunlight a lot (only really weddings), I film in small venues that don't always have AC and get real hot and humid. Buildings can get into the 100Fs with hundreds of people, even in the evening.

So yeah it overheats severely in sunlight, in outdoors and all. about 20/25mn and then shuts up. I may keep my S1H for now.Hugh is great. I think @Andrew Reid would appreciate him. He's such an incredibly thoughtful person, and very, very honest.

I am a Nikon user and I love my Nikons, but I don't expect anyone to go and build a 12 megapixel FF camera soon. I don't understand those people that only complain, My guess is that Panasonic MLC line will already be dead before they put on sensor pdaf.
I'm not complaining at all. I said it was a solid release. But if you don't think these features will be matched, if not beaten, in the next year or so, I'm not sure what to tell you.
And until Atomos comes out with an affordable recorder that can record it, hardly anyone is going to be able to use 16 bit RAW, and frankly most folks don't need 16 bit RAW.
Not everything has to be viewed as super positive, or super negative. This is a fine release, but talk of it "Crushing" this camera or that camera is silly.

18 minutes ago, Vintage Jimothy said:The problem there is that their existing L-mount lenses are designed for Contrast Focus, so there'd probably still be a growing pains period for Panasonic in transitioning over to Phase Detect. But yes, at this point, they really do need to start to that transition as soon as possible if they want to really seal the deal on the market.
Their MFT lenses work pretty well on Olympus cameras with PDAF.

"Crushing" seems a bit hyperbolic. It definitely has advantages, but so does the S1H.

This is a solid release for people already invested in the system BUT it does kinda feel like Sony is just finally catching up and there's a chance this release will look dated pretty quickly.
Someone really needs to have a heart to heart with Panasonic about AF, because all of these companies have left the door open for them. Canon tried to shut it (I think?), but that was an unmitigated disaster, but after this release its still open, I think.

Ted
I don't think many people were / are asking to be able to record 120fps for that long. If the limit is there for 4K60 though it is a deal breaker for me. While an hour might seem long enough for most people, I need genuine unlimited record times.

Its just Canon intentionally crippling their cameras so people will buy their higher end EOS line. Though the crippling seems quite insane at this point. I guess we were all idiots for thinking Canon made a 180.
I didn't! I always believed in Canon's ability to fuck things up!

Has an active cooling system for the in-body IS sensor.
I know, what I mean is that seems to be a suitable solution.

Just now, ajay said:
It would appear the crux of the problem with the R5 and R6 has to do with sensors that float and are not heat-sinked. They have to float for in-body IS.
(Notice how professional cinema-style cameras do not have IS built into the camera? The FX9 has a gyroscope for post-stabilization. No floating sensor. Makes sense if you want a professional cinema camera that won't overheat.
In a nutshell it appears these camera manufacturers trying to produce high quality FF video/stills camera hybrid have to decide on a path to take:
- Forfeit in-body IS to prevent overheating
- Have a built-in active cooling system such as a fan and possibly retain in-body IS
- Provide in-body IS with no active cooling and allow the camera to overheat and consider it a mainly stills camera with some limited video capabilities.
