@Andrew Reid Max is right, it's a well-known fact in the Fuji community that Fuji cameras overrate their ISO values, causing both stills (RAW and JPG) and videos to be darker (around 2/3 stop).

It was a flippant statement but he really is the most comprehensive reviewer on utube. He is a nice guy and should be cut some slack. I tend to believe him when he says he meant it as an extra stop difference.

@Attila Bakos You are completely wrong - more on monday
@Mokara You are on the right way - that were my original thoughts too, one year ago. Very logical and structured way of thinking AND not bad maths...more on monday...
Sorry, no much time to spend on this but just got an alert on an article mentionning the NX1...Normally I'm tired to read the SAR-bullshit but now one of the Sony plastic garbage collectors is laughing on Samsung...
    Quote:
/// Samsung has yet no goal to make APS-C or FF Image Sensor for the photo industry. Their focus is on smartphone cameras and automotive industry. Still, their NX1 camera was ahead of times in many areas, pity they did quit. Oh and by the way, back when they had their NX system Samsung was bragging that they would become number 1 in the camera mirrorless camera industry. It didn’t work out well. ///
Comparing facts & the economical power of Samsung vs Sony could help avoiding such statements...But there are guys out there who refuse any intellectual challenge...Powered by Sony plastic brain - without any backside mental illumination...Innovative but dumb statements...
DISCLAIMER: It's all about self criticism. I've buyed this garbage too, but I've learned out of it...

It is laughable that they made the autofocus worse using the same sensor. Even if they can improve it in a firmware update it just goes to show their own incompetency. I would not have said anything but for the fact that they advertised 4k face detect autofocus as a feature
Not to mention the ibis is super jittery in video mode and all but unusable compared to the GH5.
For what it is, a stills camera, it is very good. But I would be loath to use it for anything but that.

Yurolov reacted to Alpicat in Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
Crop mode on the eos m has a area which is slightly larger than super 8mm, it's somewhere between 1/2" and 1/1.7" sensor size, depending on which resolution and aspect ratio you pick, so super 16 lenses would be fine on the eos m. For example, 1800x1024 resolution on eos m is a 4.66x crop from full frame, whilst super 16 is approx 3x crop.
One of my no-brand adapters seems like your Fotodiox one, where the 6-66mm ends up exactly upside down. With this particular adapter I've been able to get closest to parfocal performance, so it's probably the best option for this lens.
I made a video to test parfocal performance and vignetting in 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, using this adapter. Movie crop mode records slightly off centre horizontally, so if you want 4:3 aspect ratio and are getting vignetting - you have to recentre the image in post... which I've done below in the 4:3 shots:

I think there is a common thread from people that have used canon and tried other companies. A camera is much more than its specs, and that's why I will never purchase a sony again. I used to own a C100 and not only could no other camera at that price point compete with the ergonomics but I would argue that still to this day no dslr comes close to getting as good an image, including the GH5. Canons are just much more cinematic and easy to use. Look at all the films shot on the c300 and the documentaries of the time. They are all still beautiful till this day, and that is with minimal post-processing. That's from a 8 bit camera. In fact, you look at some of the movies shot on the 5d Mark II and damn do they look cinematic.
I have a cinema camera but I want a nice portable camera to do quick run and gun type work for which a dslr or mirroless is perfect. Canon is the only company that has the ability to provide something that could cater to all my needs - it doesn't need to be 10 bit. Sony is all specs and no substance. Their cameras aren't intuitive nor do they create a pleasing image imo.
Eventually there will be a 4k aps-c dpaf canon camera with a decent codec, and that will be the end of this conversation I hope. Cause if I am honest nothing comes close to competing.

I read somewhere on canonrumours I think where one of their execs basically said this was their first push into what will be a renewed plan to enter into the mirrorless market. So I am expecting more to come, and when the later iterations do come, I think most people will be pleased. They have to cripple this one to distinguish it from their higher end models (if it isnt simply a matter of hardware limitations in a small body). Once canon get it right, they will be leaders yet again - not because they have the best specs like sony, but because they are able to execute a camera correctly.
Ask yourself this question: which camera would you more readily recommend to a soccer mom - Canon M50 or a Sony a6300? I think any rational person would pick the canon. The a6300 is too complicated a camera for the average person to use between the menus and the ergonomics. I've heard it multiple times from people in museums complaining about how they don't know how to use the camera. If they don't know how to use it they will put it down.

The main video is the dave dugdale matty scott video - unless you are doing high paid client work, in which case you will be using an alexa/red - it really doesn't mean anything. Lighting, talent, sensor, etc will be a lot more important. 10 bit gh4 is no better for it. And the GH5 is not good because it has 10 bit.

Yeah me 2. It is a shame as the images are really nice, but for a portable camera autofocus would be nice to have for quick run and gun type work. I am waiting on canon as I know only they can get it right from both an ergonomics and image standpoint. I think we just have to pray the ff mirrorless will give us what we have been asking for.

Personal opinion about a dead system. Just because your budget is low doesn't mean you don't want a system thats still alive.
Im not going to debate this. Canon wants to make a low end camera, why in gods name is this something to be upset about...

Clearly this camera is not for any of us....AF in 4K is just crap....unusable.....but this is good news anyway....we will see in the next iterations new Canon cameras with 4k and DPAF....probably with a higher price...but anyway worthy.....this is just the starting point guys......let's be patience...sooner than later we will get what we are waiting for.

Can we at least all agree that this camera is CANON’s entry level mirrorless? They specifically state that in their release.
It doesn’t matter what other manufacturers charge for their entry level camera. This is the lowest camera in their mirrorless line.

The camera is very small. It won't be able to handle heavy processing. That's a fact. You can't expect too much from a small body. Look at the overheating with the a6500 and this is smaller than that. So don't expect anything fantastic from this camera. It just isn't possible with the size. It's clearly aimed at vloggers for which it's likely crippled codec will be sufficient. The size and price range all point this direction.
And you have to consider the compromises the a6500 has when shooting 4k. If you are outside in bright daylight you can't see the LCD. Hence why the SmallHD focus is so popular. That's a large added expense. Canon have never had this problem. Their lcds are fantastic and all are viewable in bright daylight. They do things right even though they are late to market.
The camera has to be useable first. If that means they have to compromise on the codec or cropping to get a small form factor 4k camera then so be it. But don't see why people are expecting anything else. The form factor is too small. This won't hurt gh5 sales but it should kill the a6500 et al. I owned the a6500 and sold it purely based on ergonomics and the above issues.
Image differences will be based more on the user than camera, so I want something that feels good and actually works.

I've found my perfect camera. It took me ten long years of searching but I finally found the one. She may not be perfect to others but she is perfect for me.
So don't give up hope she is out there for you!
By the by I really like the raw grittiness of the image coming out of the Fuji - see the video I posted above. I think it is unique in this respect.
For some reason Im interested in seeing what photographers and nonpros can get out of the camera. There is something natural and organic to the shooting style that suits the camera. It isn't suited to a more commercial polished looks like the gh5 series. Fuji cameras have personality that's why I like them. That's saying something for a mass produced product.

HDR is for raw HDMI out. Don't think we are getting that for video lol. The 4k timelapse mode is another indication that this is targeted firmly at the vloggers and is a nice feature. What I like about canon is how easy there cameras are to use - they may be late to the party but when their products arrive you know they will work properly and do the job.
