Hey folks, this is the first music video I ever shot. While I am decently happy with the results, I am very much looking for feedback and impressions, any at all. If you have any questions feel free to ask, of course! :)

Need to give us more details regarding setup (lighting and camera movement) and color grading so we know what you are working with and what can be realistically improved.

  2. I think the xt4 still has a fair few compromises as well. The af is not class leading and you can't rely on it like you can with the Canons and Sony. The thing about autocus is there is not really any degrees of effectiveness to it in terms of real world use. Either you can rely on the autofocus in a shoot or not. I think it falls into the latter category and I would only use it on a casual basis. The ibis is still jerky and warpy and gives away a lot to the Canon's DIS. The new r5 should have the benefit of both. The 8k rs in the r5 will be horrendous no doubt but if the 4k modes are good this discussion becomes moot. The 8k is a marketing label.

The output voltage is too low ... It is only 10.8 V which is the minimum. The output is only 2A max, the bmpcc 4K power supply is 2.5A !

Imo it is a product that works, but it is anyone's guess how long the bmpcc 4K will work without frying itself.

I use a batpower 98Wh model, output is 15V. It cuts out before voltage goes out of bmpcc 4K specs, and transition to internal battery is seemless. It also has more than enough power to power the camera + OIS + 48V + SSD and charge the internal battery. It can output 90W at 15V, so it should be safe at 6A max (it is designed to power laptops ...)

At only 110 euro it will power the 4K for 270' with T5 connected, screen at 60%, lens OIS on (the internal LPe6n battery gives 44' under the same conditions)

So I can safely keep the camera on and recording for 5h ! (6h20 on SD card, screen at 30%, no OIS).

They also have 148Wh and 210 Wh models (the 148Wh has the same physical size...)

I use the smallrig powerbank holder, on a nato clamp. I have 2 extra nato rails on my cage (one underside, one on the top handle), so I can reposition or attach the powerbank in seconds.

My advice would be : do NOT buy a cheap charger with less than 3A / 15V specs. I think 110 euro is already on the cheap side. My runtime with it equals 6,13 LPe6n batteries, which translates to €484 !

For anyone looking to purchase this Zitay - I have had a further look. The output is 10.8V which is within the required range and it is rated at 6800mAH, which is more than enough. It is not 2A. So you get 75Wh - for the 6k that is about 3 hours of run time, and more for the 4k. The current price is 85USD . Some people will appreciate how it mounts and how discrete it is.

MFT is a great format indeed. When I mean dismiss any of them, I meant to ignore either of both actually. You can surely skip one of those if you have the other one, of course : ) But this camera series is a dream come true, my fav acquisition system ever designed, produced and delivered to my book : -)

Mainly shot on P6K, here's a trailer of a feature film co-produced by me currently @ post production:

Looks amazing. Very much like film. How was the color grading process?

Not sure that I like the elongated form factor of a powerbank. This looks like a nice slim and unobtrusive option you can pop on the base. Why do you think it will fry the camera? (not an expert with volts, watts, etc)

$AU 3455 which is about £1783/€2039 less the tax back as a tourist and it comes out at £1620 Pity about the 14 days quarantine though!

I got it for less from videopro when it first came out. 3275.

Has anyone seen this cheap battery option:

  7. Putting aside specs and technical achievements, has any DSLR or mirrorless camera ever come close to giving as cinematic image as the 1Dc. Is that not what we are concerned with here. Has any other Canon camera period? That camera is going on 8 years old. The tech was there and still is but they haven't bothered repurposing it after the failure of the 1dc. Just give us that mojo in a small package with useable codec and dual pixel.

Andrew, I'm disappointed. Been using the Blackmagic 4k for almost a year now and it's a beast with a ridiculous amount of features, and it continues to improve. Completely changed the game for me. It's everything I'd come to expect from a dream camera (a lot of which I'd come to expect after years of reading your blog).

He has a beef with them. Dont worry about it. Just use your camera. If you like it that's all that matters.

    X-T4 "dead to me"

A7S III has to "step over FX line"

Yep, it's not looking good for the competition.

The brand name Canon and lure of 8K will be too much for many people, but the best thing for me about Canon's great awakening is that hopefully they will get all the basics right... Like full frame 10bit 4K with no crop, great colour science, the classic cinematic 1D C look in C-LOG, Dual Pixel AF and very good IBIS, all in a nice mirrorless body which has a much better and more "pro" control layout compared to the silly toy one that came before it.

You forgot flippy screen for our vlogger friends😅😅

But seriously, how do we know there is not some catch that'll cripple it.

Plus the a7siii could always have an electronic variable ND. That would set it apart.

  10. This topic is sad because it pits forum users against each other over something as facile as politics. This should be a place where people come together over their shared love of cameras and be supportive of each other. This does the opposite. Good job sowing discord.

Those sane few who are left can't escape this nonsense. Everything has to be about politics because people don't have enough imagination to think about anything else.

Let's go back to talking about cameras and forget about this.

I can understand this coming from the Sony shooters but the rest of us should be better than this ????

  11. This whole discussion is absurd. Why do we need Netflix to determine the value of a camera based on some unknown and abstruse criteria. The whole thing is speculation. Make up your OWN MIND by looking and testing the images. 10 bit is still 10 bit though.  The traditional Japanese companies won't give you internal raw, and that's why most people will pick the blackmagic at half the price. If you pick a camera based on what Netflix says, you are in a dream land, and to suggest it is some arbiter of quality is even more fanciful - cause no one here can say what the criteria is. Not to mention that some of the best cameras ever made aren't on the list.

I'd be interested in reading about it.  Partly because with all the hype, cryptic teaser media releases, and my general lack of interest, I still don't actually know what it is or what it does, apart from underwhelm people!

No surprises. The phone flopped and was voted worst tech of the year by some publications. No way he could compete with the big dogs on any kind of level. The resale value has plummeted and this won't help.

No unconscious bias. Objective facts, yes. If Panasonic had released a $6K version of the S1H with no EVF, no articulated screen, no anamorphic mode, with a flippy mirror in the way, we'd all be going "eh"

Not saying the 1D X III does not have benefits and is not a big improvement from the previous one....

But it's still limited by being a DSLR, huge file sizes in RAW, very high price, and fact there are much better options around for 10bit if you're ok with manual focus (as filmmaker you should be!)

Foveon version of the Fp I very much doubt will shoot decent video due to how much extra data there is on the Foveon chip.

Bias can also be by the weight you give the pros and cons of the competing systems. I think it is tough to say for sure how you will feel about it without using it. Yes there are draw backs but nothing comes close to giving internal raw at FF 4k60p with amazing autofocus, pro stills capabilities and pro level ruggedness, to the point where, ye, you can take it to the mountains and film a doco without having to worry about the weather and dust or it malfunctioning. Look how much Sony want to charge you for the Fx9 and still no internal raw and that thing is huge. Gotta give props where it is due.

  14. If you want pro photo and pro video in one body, this is it. No other camera gives you that, hence the price. As good as the s1h is, I don't want to be fiddling around with external recorders just to get raw. With the weather sealing etc, the places you can take this camera where you can't take others makes it all the more appealing and unique. The price is warranted. This thing is a BEAST.

I'm not impressed - quite the opposite - to be honest.

    Looks very digital and over-sharpened.
They didn't even bother to set correct shutter speed in the Mikio Hasui video, not to mention blown-out taxis in Ani Watanabe's impressions.

I think they are photographers who dont know what they are doing and are probably just using the internal 4k codec.

BTW for the geek inside you, that was shot on 4K DJI Osmo X5R & Red Weapon 6K.

I am all curious on yours...

thank you, i loved this movie too. I watched it in the cinemas, and the ending is quite brilliant. I did notice when they switched between the osmo and the red, so did my friends who are not camera experts, but it did not take away from the movie at all.

Thanks, and no need for excuse, opinions are always welcome, at least they are now divided :) But, apart of usual youtube execution, it is two-part story with weird and everyday atmosphere and similar grading goals - and to catch it, it has to be seen all... which might be, I suppose, pretty boring experience.

    I liked it.
