Since my rant in the Blackmagic Facebook group about using the Sony IMX294 sensor used in the GH5s and a strong Lowpass filter may be a good thing in terms of Dynamic Range, Lowlight, battery etc. and still benefitting BM color science, broke out into a war I'm trying here again. What would you guys think?

    - Virtually no FPN
    - better battery life
    - Almost 14 stops of DR
    - great low light, ISO6400 should be fine without internal Temporal NR
    - low rolling shutter
    - none of the issues the GH5s is plagued with (strong overprocessing precisely and harsh red channel clipping)

Yeah I would assume that it’s a Micro 4/3 sensor. But I could see them doing an EF Mount instead of m4/3.

No, as it could be the 4.6K sensor at the heart of it, but a cut of it. A 4K sized cut of it.

Here’s a quick screengrab from an outtake of my film. I don’t really love the shot but it shows what a fast wide angle can do on FF.
It was shot on the Canon 28mm 1.8 ... pretty cool little lens.

I remember an interview they had like 6 months ago their biggest problem was no sensor existed that didn't have too much heat in a small package for doing 4k. Maybe they are using the same sensor that is in the GH5s, and Kinefinity? I am sure Sony would be willing to sell it to them. But maybe it won't work in a small body either?

I was thinking about ditching the GH5 for the GH5S, because I do like having like a dedicated cinema-style camera, which that definitely is more like. Richer image, forces you to go with more thought-through set-ups (like pre-IBIS days with anything from GH2-GH4). But this... now this might be the actual real deal! The philosophy and pricing behind this is going to be an interesting one. Interesting as well what Z-Cam will finally have to show for... Man, each year schtuff gets more and more exciting; unreal.

    Very exciting!!

    What's everyone hoping for?
I'd like 4k (seems safe given the billboard)
    Either m4/3 or s16 sized
With cdng raw and prores options
Maybe up to 30p at 4k and up to 60p or 120p at fullHD
Maybe an anamorphic mode with desqueeze?
Built-in ND filters would be amazing
A little longer lasting battery would be nice
    For around $1k
    I'd buy that instantly

True cinema lenses are not dead by any means. I don't know of any ACs that would like to pull focus from a smart phone. At the rental house where I work, we have invested heavily in Preston and Arri wireless gear. You'll pry the Hand Unit 3 from my cold dead hands.

That said, there is a need to cut down on the gunk that hangs off of cameras, as you can see in this picture. The latest generation of Panavision's DXL has a Preston receiver built in and the Primo 70 lenses have lens motors for focus and iris directly inside the lens barrel. So I think that there will be more integration in the future. That said, DSLR-level technology is just not gonna fly on a pro set. Your Panasonic lenses are gonna get destroyed easily. Also, I don't think that anybody wants to let go of human focus-pulling. It's a hard job and it gets harder as sensors get bigger. But it remains an organic, vital part of image-making, and I don't think that machines are gonna be able to deliver that.

Correct this is more of a photo review. We did a video specific review that’s coming soon.
We did a video specific review coming soon but we didn’t go into detail about the silent controls too much unfortunately

    Can't?
Perhaps pick up the BMD Micro Cinema Camera for now on the cheap, which can do FHD 60fps

Does your office have a C300mk1 or mk2?

Am hoping for a URSA Micro Pro! ;-)

Well if anyone still wants a 1DC in 2018, maybe you should bid on my 1DC that I am selling to fund some new gear for my YouTube channel.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-1D-C-18-1MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-Black-Body-Only/112902067120

Im really sad about this but I am not made of money and any cameras that aren't being used....need to go. I can always re purchase one in the future if my heart remains broken.

With more and more cameras providing increased capabilities for recording via their HDMI or SDI ports, the value of external recorders has increased - the GH5 provides 4K 60 422 10bit only via HDMI; the FS5 provides 4K 30P RAW, 4K DCI 120P from RAW, and 240P 2K from RAW; the EVA1 also has increased capabilities like 240P 2k output; and the tiny RX0 provides 10bit 422 4K via HDMI.
But we only have 7"-screen recorders, which are absurdly large even for the bigger, but still portable cameras. On the EVA1, for example, the Shogun Inferno looks ridiculous, adding bulk and imbalance, as the attached photo shows.
Please, (anyone) give us a 5" recorder with the capabilities of the Shogun Inferno, or even better, a smaller recorder without any screen - the battery life will be better and overheating will be less of a problem. BlackMagic? Convergent Design? Atomos? Video Devices? Sony? C'mon.
I actually do not find the Shogun Inferno screen useful even for shooting for HDR - if you go into Atomos HDR mode, the screen becomes very dim and almost impossible to see in bright light. I basically just use the waveform (which is useful, but that does NOT need a 7" screen).

Rokinons are flimsy plastic lenses with glass ranging from okay to mediocre. I'll use them if they're all that's available, but they're right near the bottom of my list.
I know I'm a broken record on this, but Leica R, Contax Zeiss, Minolta Rokkor (converted to EF), and Voigtlander lenses will provide superior image quality, smooth mechanics, and the ability to travel with you to all future cameras. Won't cost much more either, depending which versions you go with.
Rokinons are cinema lenses in name only. They're not optimised mechanically or optically for video, beyond the cheap gearing. Invest in something that'll last.
