Totally! I've had some lovely images from the FS7! If you prefer to operate from the shoulder then id get the FS7. I prefer handheld with a strap on the BM, it can be quite stable. I suppose it depends on preferences, most cameras nowadays get the job done too with basically negligible differences in the end product. Ergo and workflow preferences are more important than ever imo

I actually love the FS7 ergos - VF loupe aside which I never use. Again its one of the rare modern budget cine cams you can shoulder mount ENG style.
IQ wise, the BM has higher resolution and shoots Raw but on the highest DCI 4K XAVC-I Cine EI setting the FS7 is still capable of spitting out a really nice detailed filmic IQ imo with tons of headroom for grading. Also yeah the 3200 dual ISO setting on the BM is a bit meh, you definitely need to stick to 400 to get the highest IQ/DR.
For the price new, the BM is definitely a no brainer but again the FS7 is still a workhorse in 2021 and E-mount is just so much more versatile than EF at this point imo.

JordanWright reacted to Anaconda_ in Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
Yesterday I unexpectedly shot quite a bit with my FP and 5inch Video Assist. Man, what a combo! It's so small, and lightweight. The person I was filming told me half the time, he didn't even notice I was rolling, and of course when I put it next to my Pocket4k footage, it grades exactly the same, or possibly better. Very easy to match.
I was thinking of selling the FP, because for the types of things I shoot, cDNG is just not viable (longform interviews). But then a deal for the VA12g came up, and I thought it'd give it a try. Now I'm completely sold. With this setup, I've turned a great camera that's was no fun for me to use, into a very fun, take anywhere cine-cam.
My shoot yesterday was very unexpected, but I happened to have the camera in my satchel with a 28mm f2.8 FD lens. It was a dream setup, that I'm basically going to take everywhere from now on.

JordanWright got a reaction from Rob6 in Black magic 6k reliability question
great to hear you had a good experience! I was using the Tilta cage also, had a couple of there locked in cables go bad within a year. Understandably, i really have a hard time trusting there products; I also have had other Tilta products with QC issues such as the Cage itself, T5 holder screw and a bad DC-Weipu cable. support was also non existent. It’s a shame because there design and ideas were so good!
Anyway I ended up purchasing 3 Tilta cables and 2 SSD holders within a year. Would have saved money to go with Cfast earlier... although my shoots rarely need over 500gb but I get the allure of 1TB drives for £100
as for the BM... I’ve found that when you get a good unit it’s rock solid!

100% Cfast all the way USBC is unreliable, introduces 3 points of failure

All in all, I would just go with Cfast. Smaller/quicker/safer setup.

Sorry to spam the thread... had the camera for a few days now here’s some initial thoughts and tests. ND filters are great (obviously) haven’t noticed any IR pollution or colour shifts when using them yet. The biggest upgrade is the brightness of the monitor, totally usable on sunny days. I will say a lot of people have been reporting that there monitors have a blue tint and I can confirm that mine is about 300k cold. BM informed CVP that is a firmware update coming to fix this.
There is another firmware bug where it is impossible to import or delete LUts
Battery life is improved I get 1h continuous recording 6K Q5 to Cfast. (100% Screen Brightness)
The body is slightly taller making it more comfortable to hold... there is finally a place for my pinky on the grip! It is also a bit heavier in the hand.
other than that it’s basically a P6K, same IQ in a more ergonomic and feature packed body.

JordanWright got a reaction from SteveV4D in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
Heres a 'music video'. I shot using the Blackmagic 6k. It was very low budget and shot adhering to local covid lockdown guidelines.
Production
We used a Sigma 18-35mm, everyone already knows how much of a great all round lens this is. I prefer shooting on wider lenses anyway, (25mm being my go to prime). I didn't really find myself wanting to swap lenses. Also used a Hoya ProND 6 Stop on some shots, this ND does show IR pollution. I wish I had a 3 stop aswell. (Ive since sold the Hoya and picked up Nisi IRND 3 & 6 stop filters. They are cheaper and better performing than the Hoya.
We shot 6K Braw Q5 on to 2 128GB Cfast Cards. This codec is incredibly efficient we used about 450GB over 2 1/2 days. I didn't have the camera rigged at all, the camera was powered by LPE6 Batteries. The camera burns though them, I needed more than the 6 we had! The only item attached to the top of the camera was a wireless video transmitter.
I aimed to expose 'correctly' at 400ISO. A majority of the shoot was overcast so the DR wasn't stressed much so I found that I was often 1 stop over. In the grade I pulled the exposure on most shots down at least a stop and sometimes as much as 2/3. I recommend underexposing this camera at least a stop anyway. Even exposing for 800 shows almost no noise especially in a 4k timeline.
All the exteriors were lit naturally. occasionally using a bit of diffusion in close ups. I just tried to use the sun as backlight as often as possible. The interiors, we used the affordable Godox SL60 and a ring light for fill.
We used a variety of grip equipment (Tripod, Glidecam, Handheld, Jib).
Grade/Post
I also graded the video on a baseline 2017 13inch MBP, we imported the timeline from premier and used the camera originals. I shot to a Kodak 2383 LUT in camera but decided to grade from scratch. Gen5 colour Science in resolve is a treat to use. It reacts incredibly naturally to contrast a saturation changes. Skintones (with tint set to 0 in the raw tab) are very natural and lifelike. On a sidenote: Gen 5 Ext Video and Video gammas are totally usable now, much more than the Gun 4 versions. Other than basic adjustments, I just adjusted the hue of greens to remove IR in shots we used ND. I also added a subtle glow to the highlights and DaVinci's built in film grain. I set exposure for each clip using the exposure slider in the raw tab and the false colour effect on a timeline node, it really helped with matching shots when the lighting was constantly changing over the 3 shoot days.
I am still shocked by the image coming out of the 6k, it has huge dynamic range, beautiful colour science and can be pushed and pulled more than you would ever without breaking. The extra resolution meant we didn't have to rent a dolly/silder on some shots and allowed us to crop and reframe in post without degrading IQ.

JordanWright reacted to BTM_Pix in Sigma EVF
So, as per reports today, Sigma have registered an EVF in Korea..
Might suggest a new Fp is on the way but I'm wistfully imagining that they've pulled a rabbit out of the hat and made one that side mounts to the current Fp like the hot shoe attachment does.

I also love the look of lenses wider than 28mm. I think that the fact that 24/28 is the standard wide end of a zoom and therefore kind of the default focal length for landscapes etc put me off it. The fact that every smartphone video until two year ago was also that FOV sure didn't help.
I settled on 15/35/85 FF equivalent FOVs as how I shoot. I love the 35 for environmental portraits (which is most of the work I do) and the 85 for close-ups or detail shots or far-away things and the 15 for landscapes and buildings and anything that's big and you want a WOW reaction from.
When I bought my Laowa 7.5mm f2 (which is equivalent to a 15mm F4 on FF) I was tossing up between that one and the 10.5mm f0.95, but I wasn't sure that the 21mm equivalent FOV would be wide enough, and you can always crop in post but you can't zoom out in post so I didn't get it.
Having done a few trips with the 7.5mm (and the 8mm SLR Magic I had before that) I've realised that I don't think I ever need quite the full width of the 15/16 FOV they give, but I'm not sure how much narrower I can go before I'd start missing the width. 18mm might be a good point to look at.
I've done shots where I filled the 15mm FOV with the object, not leaving any dead space on the sides of the frame, and found that I had to get closer and the wide-angle-distortion was too much, so I'd have been better off standing further back and having a longer focal length.
This is an example where the lens is too wide, unless you're deliberately going for a ridiculous look which I was....
but for this shot it was fine:

In the time that I have actually used it, which was predominantly the two weeks after I got it, I love it.
No question it could do with a viewfinder for me but I'll get the loupe at some point when I begin shooting again.
Based on my experiences with the version of it for the Sigma DP0 then it will do the trick.
The 8 bit internal RAW is pretty good but without any of the RAW having compression it needs an SSD really anyway and there are plenty of really small ones now that make that less of an issue.

With full frame, 28mm to 35mm are basically street shooting lenses for me. I kinda prefer 45mm to 50mm, but I can go handheld with the former, so they're much more versatile.
RE: the Canon 20mm 2.8, I am probably going to buy the lens within the next couple months due to a shoot I'm doing this spring in a car. So if you do get it, please report back with your thoughts and some sample images.

I wish I could use a card writer because I have a bunch of high speed CF cards.
With that said, what's the smallest SSD you've tested with it? I noticed SmallRig or Tilta has some new handles that have a space for the SSD built into the handle and one that has SSD and a battery with a record button. It seems pretty slick.
On another note, I wish Sigma had chosen a different mount. I understand about their alliance with Panny and Leica, and although Sigma is starting to release some smaller lenses, there aren't enough native lens options to get me excited. More than likely I'd adapt lenses, but then the added size of the adapter/lens dwarfs the camera. I guess m-mount lenses are good options, especially considering the 7artisans/ttartisans options that are being released... like that lovely 28mm 1.4 you have.
Speaking of... I found this video on Vimeo of the FP/28mm 1.4 combo...

Retail price would be a catch, haven't seen a Voigt 28mm in years...
Also looking at the 11-20 that looks like its a nifty walk around lens for S35 although its a bit pricer than the 11-16.
On a side note its great to see the lens topic getting some love!
