Amazeballs got a reaction from Dustin in Is there a better package than the g80/85 for the price?
It's hard to beat G80 for its price. If you don't need AF or 120p it is still a pretty decent camera. Get some nice manual lenses to go along with and you will be set.

I don't think many white men feel the so called privilege.
Which is why we end up with protest votes at election time.
The whole political correct thing doesn't connect with ordinary people.
Politics is obsessed with skin colour, not the gaffer on a film set who just happens to be born in a country where white people are a majority.
Why should he feel ashamed just for being part of an industry?
I don't think anybody who works in the film industry should be shamed into believing they are part of an institutionally racist conspiracy.
Some of the most incredible countries in the world are monocultural. Japan is about as close to a monocultural society as it gets and where is no shame in it. In fact Japan is arguably all the more unique and special for it. Are we suggesting Japan should now be reduced to 40% to 50% native Japanese people, in order to represent a greater number of skin colours and cultures? No.
Discrimination against majorities is as wrong as discrimination against minorities.
This constant shaming of talented hard working creative people for being white males has gotta stop.

Nah, I actually don't like the 180 shutter rule.  A tiny bit more motion blur in the image and it looks more like film to me.  I shot a doc once with 25ss and 24fps.  Liked that too even though the motion blur is more pronounced.  To each his own, but it's a style/look that I think really takes the edge off the "video" quality of a video camera.

Seconded.  It's all about the lighting.  Took me a long time to realize this in my own career coming from the run 'n gun world of broadcasting.  If you're willing to listen to advice from an older dumbass like me that has made all the mistakes, right now at the outset, then you're going to leapfrog over all other newbies that put their efforts into acquiring gear.  Acquiring gear isn't always a waste of time, but it's a wildly low priority.
Learn to light. Learn to know when to not light.  Learn to "see" what light is doing and offering; exploit it.  Learn to recognize what sort of lighting works for motion pictures.  Pay attention to your frame like you're making an oil painting and, my god, you'll be so much better at this stuff than most of us.
Nothing drives me more crazy than when I see cheap indy shoots that have NO notion of lighting AND can't even bother to dress up/clean up the location they're shooting in.  Everything on frame is visual information.  It's your job to control it and make people see the important stuff, not random visual vomit.
That said, slap a 50mm lens on your T3i, put it on f2.8, set your frame rate at 24fps, set your shutter speed at 40, use the neutral color profile, get some ND filters to control your exposure, and you'll have a good technical baseline to make things happen with your camera.

The camera is basically the LAST thing you should upgrade.
    First:
Lighting - get some basic lights and learn how to use them Set design - get some much crazier lights and learn about set design - music videos go all out on this so don't hold back Composition - learn about framing, camera angles, camera movement Directing - learn how to work with talent to get the best performances from them - writing and even performing music are very different to knowing how to look good in an extreme close-up Business - making a good film isn't the same thing as making money Yourself....   learn about colour theory, learn how to edit ('cut on the beat' is one style - learn 15 other styles), learn to colour grade, learn about in-camera special effects and only then start to think about camera equipment...  or, at least, don't think about spending more than a few hundred.
A good way to be practical about it is to only use money you earned from shooting videos to invest in more equipment.

Kind of. The real supporters of the m4/3 format are Panasonic and Olympus - all the others (Blackmagic included) are very niche.

From Panasonic, I clearly see a GH6 on the horizon, but not much more - there are rumors of a GX10, but as a minor update. Olympus just repackaged the E-M1 II in a smaller body to make the E-M5 MK III, and rumors says that the same sensor will be used for the E-M1 MK III.

M4/3 evolution is dependant nowadays on Sony to evolve on sensors. Olympus is struggling financially to evolve their platforms (if the E-M1 MK III still use the same chipset, will be a VERY  bad sign). Panasonic could repurpose the tech developed for the L cameras to m4/3, but don't see much intention to do it - everyone (except Fuji) is pushing full frame, better margins on bodies and (especially) lenses.

As I said, I love my m4/3 gear, it fullfills almost all that I need (except low light - my dream camera is a proper GX body with IBIS and the GH5s internals). And I think that m4/3 will be a viable format for video for a good amount of time - but maybe not for stills, where the sales volumes are. And don't want to end with a bunch of bodies and lenses with very deprecated values in a phase out, like was with 4/3 users.

And Fuji is doing a lot of things right. Have bodies and lenses with the same or a little more size and weight than m4/3 (for people, like me, that likes compact gear). In two generations jumped from some of the worst video tech for some of the best. Is (maybe) the only manufacturer that their bodies frequently surpasses expectations in specifications. Their prices are competitive. IBIS was the last barrier for me (I use a lot of vintage lenses), maybe they will be my future.

That's not enough to efficiently compete with the rest of the market. They need some other breakthrough features like build-in nd (#1 priority), improved IBIS, 4K120P, faster wifi for better image transmission, etc.

Viltrox 1.4 primes are coming on time as well.
Will get a 350$ Fringer adapter for my Sigma 18-35 as a main lens probably. AFC works very good on XT-3 with it already.

Not anymore. Latest firmware added PDAF to the aging EM1.2
    Who are you quoting here?
Sony has momentum. Anything they put out besides a complete turd will be sold and hyped like no tomorrow. I wouldn’t be surprised that every single YouTuber that has touched a Sony will be hyping the A7S4 and reading those taking points.
I know a couple of people that bought the A73 and it was their first camera...ever. Why? They saw all those YouTube videos “saying this the the camera to get Full Frame 4K $2000!!!!” , when it came out. I bought one too. I didn’t keep it in the end.
I hope all of these companies are successful. I really hope Canon wakes up and releases an R camera everybody wanted to begin with.
Im a Panasonic fanboy but I’m getting tired of their very stubborn approach to their AF. Either get it to work or just move on and pay to have PDAF. Everybody, I mean everybody that has touched a Panny, wants it. They could have starting eating everybody’s lunch if it wasn’t for their shitty AF performance.

Sony car: super fast, super range, all the tech, only ugly paint color options.
Nikon car: great tech, durable, promised features like "external batteries for extended range" never actually get released.
Panasonic car: best suspension, most efficient, doesn't let you look through the windshield when using the accelerator.
Canon car: super sexy, built like a tank, "dual focus" lane-keep assist, can't go faster than 10 mph. After firmware update it can go faster than 10mph but only if you never touch the steering wheel.

I do tend to agree with you. Why Pana discregarded PDAF for such a long period time is a mystery to me. Litterally every one eIse has it by now, even Olympus. I have made a promise to myself - I am not buying GH6 if it doesnt have PDAF, I will just say bye bye to Panasonic and move to Fuji/Sony. All next gen Pana cameras should have PDAF or I am not intrested.
