I've used the 7IV on a few jobs now and love it.
Next week I'll have my first video job with it. Excited to pair it up with my Siii!
Its quick, easy to use and fits within everything I need it too.

A few clips with the G85, trying to answer the question, "can I walk with it?". So, several longer walking shots:
I was expecting a resounding "No", but the answer is "sort of". If I had a top handle and had used a wider lens or my focal reducer (or a Power OIS lens), I might have gotten away with it.
Not wild about the color straight out of camera, but we can't have everything. This is a pretty fun camera to use. I owned an Olympus EM10iii for a while and I much prefer this. From time to time, I film protests. I think this camera would be a good fit for that.

    Just bought a GX85.
It's purpose is to serve double-duty, as an inoffensive little camera that I can stealthily take anywhere, and as a 2nd / backup cam for travels.
Travel is one of my great pleasures, and if COVID has taught me anything, it's that I need to get better at travel near home.  This has resulted in my Go Shoot project, which essentially involves trying to have small, low-zero cost adventures close to home, and to film them as little videos to try things and make memories.  The key thing for this kind of thing is having a small unassuming camera that doesn't attract attention.  I've been using my GF3, due to its tiny size, but its lack of tilting screen or stabilisation are rather inconvenient and it 17Mbps 1080p is a little lacklustre to say the least.
These projects are about story first and image second, and are finished on a 1080p timeline.  This means that if I take the 100Mbps 4K image and crop 2x then it becomes a 1080p at 25Mbps image, which is still acceptable (and still better than the GF3!) so that means that the GX85 and 14mm f2.5 combo would be tiny, but with the 2.2x crop factor in 4K and cropping in post, would be 31-62mm equivalent, and the f2.5 combined with the downscaling in post should mean it'd have reasonable low-light ability too.
    GX85 with 14mm f2.5 for a tiny setup:

If I want to work quickly and have a more doc-style of shooting, I can pair it with the 12-35/2.8 and get 26-154mm.  In extreme low-light (like caves), I can take the Voigtlander 17.5/0.95 and get 39-78mm.  If I want to go vintage, I can use the Cosmicar 12.5/1.9 for a 28-56mm range.  Lots of cool options available.
Once we get back to travel, which is likely to happen later here in Australia than elsewhere in the world it seems, I'll also use it for a 2nd / backup camera to my GH5.  I find that often I will be on a balcony or terrace in golden hour (either dawn or dusk) looking at a spectacular view and wanting to record three things simultaneously:
Time-lapse of the whole scene as the light changes - super wide-angle and deep DoF
This will be my action camera, which by taking 8MP (in 16:9) Jpegs, which are around 3Mb each, gives about 600Mbps when put onto a timeline at 25fps.  Not bad! Time-lapse of part of the scene - variable focal length required
This will be what the GX85 will do, and can use any of the MFT lenses I have. Video of interesting things happening, probably with a wide-angle lens
This is what the GH5 will be being used for.  People walking, boats sailing, flags waving, etc etc.   The GX85, by being able to share any of the lenses I have for the GH5, also makes a great backup camera in the instance that the GH5 is out of action.
Is anyone else using a GX85?  or small camera to fly under the radar?

    Hi !
I recently shot a web ad for Wakaze, a japanese saké company in Paris. The morning of the first day of shooting, my camera mysteriously died on me 😕 So I had to use my first AC cam as a back up (he had it with him by chance !). The day before, one of the location (the appartment) wasn't available anymore, a nerve wracking start ! I then got another camera of mine for the rest of this two day shoot. So there are two cameras involved. Try to guess which camera shot what !
P.S. I had no say for the music... I'd rather have some good old rock music on a shorter edit to match the shooting style but they went with an electro vibe...

Then there are some like Brandon Li that make their living with one or two cameras on gimbals with heavy use of AF. To each their own. I would rather have AF and hit the MF switch when I want to.

    Hybrid wedding capture.
I will manual focus certain static parts of the day but anything that involves subject movement and flitting between stills & video, good AF is a must.

If this camera has PDAF it has a chance in the consumer market. If not then it will be a hard sell I think.

The Panasonic lenses are expensive because they are extremely well built and feature-full. Even the 24-105 F4 is a beast with everything you mentioned and semi-macro ability.
Imagine if it had PDAF...it would have sold much, much better.

What a gem this camera is.
I always get distracted by what else is coming out - GFX 100, SL2, X-T4, and the list goes on.
But when I look at my footage shot in Asia and Berlin on the GH2, I realised how effective locked down shots are with manual focus. Back when we had to use a tripod... Even the slightest shake is a distraction. There was no racking or AF during a shot either, that just ruined things. This was before follow focuses were common on mirrorless cameras... and the AF, well, it was useful for AF-S to lock off a subject and then you'd record and keep it there.
I continue to come back to the S1 because it is the spiritual successor to the GH2. It's not expensive (well, compared to an S1H or cine camera) so it's aimed at the same people. It's relatively small, smaller than an C200 or FS5 for example which are the smallest popular cine cameras. It has a very good battery and huge EVF. The IBIS is tip top. The image in V-LOG, 10bit 150Mbit astounding, yet the file sizes remain much smaller than 400Mbit ALL-I. The 4K 10bit image quality difference to the S1H hardly exists. The ability to load a LUT onto the live-view display and shoot with your favourite one - what other mirrorless camera does that for £1500?! It is amazing in low light, it's full frame, and you can leave the tripod at home.
I would take either over the X-T4 as it stands, good though that is.
Now the GFX 100 is marvellous... but it's £8k even used! The SL2 would be wonderful if it actually shot 4K without the battery error, so that ruins that. The Sony A7 III is fine, but the image just doesn't hold a candle to the S1.
So putting autofocus to one side and just shooting nice stuff the classic way... there is no better tool than the S1.
If you want to use manual lenses with IBIS and shoot 4K 10bit LOG, the S1 is the best camera out there, especially for the price. Although the Sigma Fp doesn't have the same amount of features or an EVF, or yet a LOG profile, I rate that highly as well.
Will do a round up of all the current cameras soon on EOSHD.

Why the hell won't Panasonic invest in PDAF? With their new lens lineup I really thought the S1 would be the one to make the leap but no...

Looking good but after 10 years of repeated disappointment, I'll wait for the final release to make a judgement on this camera. I hope for the beast but fear the small*, **, ***, and other omissions on the official press release. May the Hawaiian gods of photography illuminate the world with their infinite wisdom. Amen.

Maybe they never thought Canon would give them what they actually wanted and not what they settled for in the R?
It definitely upsets the current state of the camera industry. Sony is the only real competitor as far as AF performance goes so it seems like the industry is going to converge around these two brands with Fuji filling in the rest.
Not really sure what Panasonic is going to do as they no longer have the resolution and FPS advantage anymore that they’ve had with the GH5 and S1H with 4K60 in MFT and now FF. In addition, 8K is, at the moment, a hard wall. Going higher becomes exponentially more impractical.
Resolutions 8K and higher become increasingly more specialized (360, volumetric imaging, sports broadcasting) and make less and less sense for consumer consumption and capture.
Thats leaves Panasonic Lumix brand in a tough position. They need to deliver trustworthy AF as good as DPAF with the best Varicam color science and high dynamic range to survive in the coming market.

Above you can see an advert for RAW on the S1H shot in my home town of Manchester. Coincidentally these streets were where I shot with the Panasonic GH1 for the first time. I have fond memories of 10 years ago in the months leading up to EOSHD's first blog post, taking my GH1 out on the same streets as featured in the Atomos video. Always great to see how cinematic the city is.
Now at the start of yet another decade, Panasonic is upping image quality again with HDMI RAW on the S1H. What makes this implementation of RAW unique is that it has an anamorphic RAW mode. The Canon EOS R5, 1D Mk III, Sigma Fp and Nikon Z6 aren't anamorphic enabled in RAW mode.
The Panasonic RAW firmware update will be available here for the Panasonic S1H on 25th May 2020.
The Atomos Ninja V is usually $649 but B&H currently has it on sale at $499 here.
