SLR Magic are legit. I've been buying for them for many years and I have many of their lenses.
They are Hong Kong based and they've never been great at marketing.  But you can order them with confidence and they're now available from big box retailers like B&H.
You can also contact them directly and they'll generally get back to you.
The hyperprimes are indeed their stills lenses "cinevised", so de-clicked etc.
If you want PL, then they make their own VERY nice APO primes.  I recently shot this and am finding few people can pick the SLR Magics from the Panavision Primos and Zeiss CP2's that they're being compared to.

Hopefully.  Honestly, I'd be beyond happy and would pay several thousand dollars if a company just took the guts of the BM Micro Cinema Camera and put them into a more useable form, like a GHX or XC10 or even a C100 body.  I don't need or want 4K, but I do want ProRes (for client projects) and raw (for learning and passion projects) and thirteen stops of latitude.  I also want a flip out screen and decent battery life.  I think even in the age of 4K, an ergonomic and efficient 1080 60p raw shooting camera with built in ND filters and usable audio would sell like crazy.
I think the push by consumers and manufacturers to move to 4K before really pushing the limits of dynamic range and color science was a mistake.  Of course, if you have enough money for storage, media, and processing power, you can have 4K, great color, and raw/ProRes, but for most it's not yet realistic.

Your last statement is probably correct. I don't know about cheap down the road. Well yeah it will be amazing tech. But as we see now already even lower end compnay's like Panasonic, Olympus, heck even Blackmagic are pushing up the price for cameras we would like to have in this last cycle. I really don't want to be paying 4000 bucks for a Panny or Sony mirrorless to be honest I don't care what it can do.
Unless you are making a good living shooting 2 thousand bucks is about all a person can do, and with all the other stuff you need on top of it that is probably most peoples limit or more. It is pretty amazing what you can do with a iPhone let alone say a used Panny G7 or something like it. So I am not complaining, but this new trend Olympus started by going to 2000 bucks Ain't to my liking as they say.

To me is GH5 the most capable camera to very extreme conditions. I have just spent 10 days in peruvian amazon rainforest and the humidity and muddy conditions were hard. I shot V-log 10bit 24p and the results seems to me very good (filmic :-D) as you can see on this very short trailer to movie about expedition to Matses tribe:

Well not to sound snide it pretty much depends how big of a computer monitor you have. I use a 30" 2k HP IPS screen. That is close to a 32" TV that a lot of people still watch TV with. But yes if you are 12' away from it even a 42" it would be less sharp than right up in front of it. My son uses a 42' Plasma TV as his "gamer" monitor. He is less than 6 feet from it, so just about anything looks good that close LoL.
ML 1080p is sharper than normal Canon 1080p output. That would not be hard to do. Canon has never been known for razor sharp 1080p. But i doubt any 1080p is ever going to look as sharp as 4k no matter how good it is. I mean we are talking 4x the resolution which on paper should be twice as sharp. But some Blackmagic and Canon Raw 1080p stuff I have seen is pretty damn good.
I know a lot of people say from that far away you can't tell the distance but I was in Best Buy to buy some GoPro accessories a few days ago and they had a Samsung 55" 4k OLED HDR TV there that was breath taking 50 foot away. I walked all the way over to look at it and it stood out like a sore thumb next to the rest of the 4k TV's around it. So that is 4k next to 4k and it was a Big difference. 1080p would have, well not been so hot I would guess.

Considering the Digital Bolex and BMPCC come out in 2013 from very small companies (what digital bolex was really quite an achievement for such a small team)  it's somewhat surprising we haven't already.  Instead of spending R&D on all the whizz bang features and compressed codecs, couldn't at least one larger company focus on colour science, motion cadence and using prores and raw.  Maybe now the C200 is out with raw being the big feature, we'll start to see some movement in this area.

I honestly believe we'll see cameras like this on the market in the next 5-10 years, and by then everyone will not only take it for granted but still be moaning over perceived shortcomings, pixel peeping into imperceptible problems with the 6k 120fps Raw, and wishing for smaller/larger/more ergonomic/more feature packed/more minimalist form factors at lower prices.
And instead of 'everyone in the world' queuing up to buy it, it will still only be a relatively small amount of people on these forums who actually care that much.

This is getting quite out of hand ... and i fail to see why.
Some people need AF, some don't. Please don't crap on a camera which is awesome just because it doesn't have the one feature you want. Buy a different camera.
Calling ML hacked crap is callous at best. They did a lot for low-budget shooters, including opening up 3k 21:9 RAW on the 5dmk3. I sold mine a few weeks ago, not because of autofocus, but because of lacking exposure tools. I'm grateful to ML, and will continue with them on the truly open Axiom camera.
This is also a hobby to me, i'm a one-man band. Right now i am looking at the GH5 or GH5s which seems like an awesome compromise of picture quality (higher res/non-RAW) and a bag of tools i sorely miss (waveform for correct expo on skintones, highlights, etc). Also vectorscope.
Of course i'm lusting after a C200. It got the RAW i got so used to. Also the exposure tools i want. But this is a pro-cinema cam, which boasts your coveted AF, pro-XLR sound, internal RAW, wonderful color science, high DR, and is good in low light. And i think the price tag is right. Getting such a package under 10 grand at 1.5kg is unheard of. That's the weight of the 1DC!
So the C200 is on my personal shortlist. So is the GH5 and GH5s, and  i can barely wait to hear more on january 8th

Seems like we used most of the switchers, faders, etc, from a company called Grassly??? We used Sony monitors and all that goes with that, Sony recording, playback  decks etc. God they cost a ton and weighed a ton! What cost crazy money then was these hydraulic pedestal studio tripods!! Man they were HUGE. Sort of like this one. And the one for sale there on ebay is a bargain  I think. Looks like brand new.

Ahh well stated. I know it is easy to spend Your money LoL, but I think that will end up being a good upgrade, I think even a Panny G7, which I had, is a great camera for the money for video. The G85 is sort of a outgrowth of the G7 with better colors and IBIS. Nice upgrade. Jon on here, the Moderator, has done some really nice stuff using a G85. Now he is rich and using a GH5 LoL.
I am a big fan of Nikon colors but they are just too far behind on their cameras to use on a daily basis for Video use.
Here is a reason I mentioned the Panny G7. It is, and can be this good. I would still go the G85 route if you can, but if not a good option.

Trouble with the bargain stuff you sort of always find some excuse to Not go out and shoot either Photos or video. Ah It can't do that, oh it doesn't have that on and on.
A person needs to get a proven older camera, ergo a Panasonic GH4, a Canon 5D mkII, Panny G85, on and on that works and you have no excuse. You know it works so make it work LoL.
I know a person can shoot good video with about any cheap gear but why unless you just want to make your life harder, and it is hard enough to make good stuff with a Arri Alexa if you don't learn it, use it, figure out it strengths and weakness.

Will probably start saving up the Christmas money so I can purchase a good used g85 body/lens and somethinf like the lens turbo for the tamron. I don't need 10 Bit of the GH5 and it seems this camera is everything I need in a camera right now. STILL looking forward to the manfrotto grip

I have had one for awhile. I really like it. I can tell you though unless the newest ones have been updated there was a cheap ass "C clip" that holds the 1/4 tripod screw in that broke on mine. I was lucky it broke on my mattress!! And I am not the only one it happen to! I went down to Ace Hardware and got a Better one.
It is able to be put into your pocket if you shrink it down. Nice one use solution. Worth the price.
