Simon Young reacted to Inazuma in Sony A7S III
Skin tones look good to me. Even at iso 50,000 they look natural whereas previously there would be a strong yellow or green shift. Also that rolling shutter performance is incredible

I wonder if Sony will put S-Cinetone in the A7sIII/H or if they’ll just release a new version of the already weird colors, keeping the tradition of non consistency alive. This matters much more than 8K raw imho.

This 👆🏻. If they deliver a very solid 4K 10bit 24/25p with good autofocus and s-cinetone I’m getting one for sure. And the rumors about extremely low rolling shutter makes it even more tempting.

I'm getting one too, probably, but not the first batch 🙂

Simon Young reacted to Snowfun in Sony A7S III
In light of recent offerings I think that qualifies as “exceeds expectations”...
I’m excited by it. And will buy.

Simon Young reacted to Laurier in Sony A7S III
I think 120fps is internal in 10 bits 4.2.2, If canon can manage 120fps 4k raw internal that possible.
I think on the leaked pictures its connected to a recorder just for monitoring.
If the rumours are correct we are getting something better than a Venice or a Fx9 in a much more compact package for less money, that quite mind blowing for me.
If they deliver, that would actually be my ideal camera, I loved the images from my G2, but the form factor/weight was really not ideal for me.

It’s also interesting that DPReview says the rolling shutter on the R6 seems to be really well controlled while cinema 5d says its “horrendous”...

Simon Young reacted to androidlad in Canon EOS R5 has serious overheating issues – in both 4K and 8K
The 2x2 pixel-binning in 4K normal and hfr mode has a softening effect, but it can be sharpened to be almost identical to 4K HQ (Oversampled from 8K).

Simon Young got a reaction from John Matthews in Overheat Testing 28 Cameras in Blistering Sun
MarkusPix seems like a thoroughly good dude, I’ve always liked him. And it’s still funny to me how Samsung could have killed all the other camera manufacturers had they only been a little more patient.

Simon Young reacted to bwhitz in New Blackmagic Announcement Soon?
Canon and Sony color science looks like ass. Both basically only capture some variation of magenta and/or green. I only like shooting Arri, new-Red, or Blackmagic now.

Simon Young reacted to Neumann Films in New Blackmagic Announcement Soon?
I think people are missing some key things here. Built in ND, XLR audio, cheap media/accessories, 8K @ 110 fps and 4K at over 200 without cropping.
Do you know how much of a breath of fresh air all of that is compared to RED cameras? You spend $30K on a RED only for it to show up with no AC power input, no audio ports and some of the worst looking slow motion at 4K that you can imagine.
This is BM's move to break into a new market.

The event is expected to last more than 20 mins. Just a heads up for any R5 shooters at the event.

Simon Young reacted to Video Hummus in Sony A7S III
Highly likely. Fair warning, don’t go into the comments section unless you really want to live first hand the scene in Star Wars where they fall into the garbage compactor.
Taking a shower now.
Gems like “The slow drip of rumors of the A7SIII is actually pp on canon”.
You’ve been warned.

The catch is going to be overheating and record limits.

Simon Young reacted to Video Hummus in Sony A7S III
Okay, 15 stops dynamic range minus 1 to 1.5 stops for the bullshit factor. So roughly 13.5 to 14 real stops.
16 Bit raw photos or is that RAW video via HDMI?
600Mbps sounds logical considering the 720Mbps max for V90 UHS-II cards.
So basically a FX-9 in a A7 body?
Wheres the catch?

12mp is easily enough for printing ‘large’.
What 12mp tends to lack is much post-cropping latitude.
As a working *cough* wedding photographer, 12mp wouldn’t bother me in the slightest if it meant ‘better’ low light capability/quality and the rest of the spec was not compromised.

If the rumors about the 12mpx stacked sensors are true, PRAISE FUCKING BE. If they don’t botch it with not including s-cinetone this may well be my dream documentary video camera.

Simon Young reacted to Andrew Reid in Nikon will announce Z6s/Z7s updates, with dual card slots and 4K 60fps
In my opinion needs a lot more than what is rumoured.
What about internal 10bit?
Internal N-LOG?
Is the 4K/60p APS-C only or full frame?
Dual card slots - Dual XQD or one SD and one XQD?
Are they going to improve the body design? Make it less consumer?
More to the point... Why would somebody buy a Z6 instead of S1 or EOS R6!
