    I quite like the look of the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter, and thought that I could simulate the effect in Resolve.  (This conversation started in another thread but I think it deserves its own)
    My theory was that if you can simulate it in post then it's more flexible, so you can mix it in to taste, and its also cheaper, applies to all your lenses, can be applied to historic footage, etc..

    I've had an attempt and I'm now convinced that a completely accurate simulation is not possible.  
    To explain why, here's an unmodified screen grab:

    Here are the reasons you can't do a completely accurate emulation:
    The Tiffen doesn't "clip".
    The flare from the light globe is much brighter than the flare from the hair light on the blond lady, but in the "no filter" waveform you will note that these have very similar values because the globe is clipped.  Also, the flare from the globe is coloured, which presumably is from the tint of the globe, however because the waveform is clipped that colour information is lost.
    The Tiffen has a very wide flare pattern and will include lights outside the field of view.
    There don't appear to be any flares from off-camera lights in the above shot, however we can tell that the Tiffen has a very wide pattern because the level of the dark background is raised for almost the entire width of the frame but the exposure seems to be the same (by comparing the levels of the grey cards at the left of the shot).
    If you are using this filter and it is being hit with sunlight from any angle I think you'll get the influence of that everywhere in the shot, because although it might be very off-angle the sun is practically an infinitely bright light.
    However, I think we can probably make a passable attempt that might work in some situations.

    The logic of this preset is this:

    The Tiffen has a non-linear rolloff, so I have simulated it using blurs of two different sizes, one smaller size applied to the Highlights and a larger one applied to the Mids and Shadows.  If I really wanted to get serious about it I might try converting to a Log colour space and doing the blur in there before converting back to REC709, but that's something for another day.
    I think that preset looks pretty good for both of these shots, but unfortunately, if we apply that preset to the main shot then we see that it definitely isn't suitable for all shots:

    If I play with the levels and add a third blur that is highlights only and is even smaller radius then we get a better result, but it highlights the issues I mentioned earlier:

    If you're going to try and use this effect in post then I would suggest a number of things:
    Shoot in Log and don't clip any highlights from any colour channel If you move the camera don't have any lighting going in and out of the frame (because the effect will start and stop when it does which will look very un-natural) Experiment with applying the effect before you convert from log to any other colour space (after all, a Tiffen filter gets applied before the conversion) Experiment with different blur types - I used Gaussian Blur in the above, but maybe other types will look nicer? The Mids and Shadows processing chain is the kind of "beauty" element, and the Highlights processing chain is the "flares" element, so you can mix these to your taste I hope that is useful, and that Tiffen don't object to me using clips from their video!!

    Nice. No mention if he was filming in 4K or 1080p. 4K is much worse.
    Have a vlogger use it (it’s got a flip screen right perfectly made for it) have them film in 4K.  Whoops it’s got a 1.7x crop that even at 16-35mm will feel close. Have them walk around filming in 4K and you will feel like you are on acid in some whackey fun house mirror room every time they swing the camera to show you something.
    Take a nice ride on a train, a car, or a bus if you prefer. Film out the window in 4K. Doesn’t matter?
    Filming some birds in 4K. You track them as you pan with their flight. Enjoy the jello telephone polls, lamp posts, and trees.
    It matters.

    There are a couple sort of obvious innovations that have somehow escaped the feature list on most of the current crop of cameras. Things like IBIS that can be locked down when disabled is a big deal, and really adds to the flexibility of the camera.  If you think about it, what good is it to be able to disable the camera intelligently moving the sensor, when the other option is just having it flop about inside the camera willie nilly? It just seems a bit silly to have the disable feature without this locking capability.
    Another obvious, but absent feature is the sensor cover that is present on the new Canon EOS R. It's so nice to not have to worry about dust getting on the sensor when switching lenses. Both these features are things ALL mirrorless cameras should have as standard features.

    The sensor is still free to move around on the IBS floating mechanism even if you turn it off. If you have a GH5 test it yourself - shake the camera and you can hear the sensor moving (and watch it with the lens off).

    Huh? The RS is considerably worst than A7S (16-24ms) & A7S2 (25ms). It's known to be the absolute worst of the worst at a whopping 36ms. Possibly some kind of record.
    For the money what else are you going to buy? There are tons of second-hand options.. XT2 to start with. If you want new, save up a little more & buy yourself a decent camera.

    The A6300 was a dog back in 2016 when the competition was far less, no X-T3 or G85 back then, or E-M10 III.
    X-T3 is a similar price now to when the A6300 was released back in 2016.
    The X-T3 today is $1399 new (less used) and the A6400 is $900 so a difference of $500 max, the price of a low-end Sony E-mount prime. The 23mm F2 and 35mm F2 Fuji X lenses are cheaper than their equivalent Sonys and the 18-55mm F2.8-F4 zoom is superior to any Sony APS-C zoom equivalent for just $300.
    I don't see why people would be interested in paying more for the A6400 + primes + decent zoom than the equivalent Fuji kit.
    If you look at the A6400 body in isolation, sure it's cheap-ish. But it's also naff-ish, 2-3 year old tech with terrible rolling shutter and bad ergonomics.
    The target market is a prime area to do some innovations... flip out 5" touch screen for example. All-new user interface and menus suited to touch screen operation. Better touch-pad AF interface. Better smartphone integration and Bluetooth LE.
    Sony took the easy option and did nothing.

    hey guys, here is a behind-the-scenes type music video I made earlier last year for my friend's band. I decided to shoot it with a mix of a Hi8 cassette camcorder and the Sony A7III with a mixture of profile settings

    Sony 50mm f1.8, Sigma 17-35mm f2.8-4, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8
    I hoped to do more with this band but they're quite on-off with different band members coming and going

    I am happy with it. I think it would be better if it was full frame, but its the best there is right now. I am not planning on getting rid of it. 

    I am looking for a second camera though and the Z6 is looking pretty good.

    There are awesome resources for colour grading and Resolve techniques out there, but they're scattered around the place, and are hard to find.  Please post anything awesome you find.
    (Note: for those that are new to Resolve or colour grading, there are lots of YT "colourists" who have very little actual knowledge.  These people provide a steady stream of bad habits, misleading and flat-out wrong information.  There are exceptions, but on the whole you should be very suspicious of people selling LUTs and pumping out video after video - most of these people are professional LUT salespeople and/or YouTubers and not professional colourists!)
    Juan Melara is excellent.  If you watch all the below you'll get a sense of how he uses Resolve, especially the Colour Space Transform plugin and which tools in Resolve are designed to work in which colour spaces.

    I am super excited about this, even spent 100 pound on a new motherboard to fix my camera.
    Video I made using the 3K build:
    Shot in 2880x1080 resolution, Graded + converted to ProRes using MLV App (https://github.com/ilia3101/MLV-App), edited in Pitivi on linuX.
    Lenses: Jupiter 9, Helios 44, Takumar 135mm, cosina 19-35 (for one shot)
    If anyone wants an MLV or DNG or something from the video I can provide.

    Dimitris, maybe the problem is the codec you are using to export the files.
    Which codec do you use? 
    After effects has color management. Premiere doesn't. You have to create a lut for it.
    On After can go to Project Settings -> Color Settings and choose the color space you want to work.
    I have found that Rec 709 Gamma 2.4 has inconsistencies when exporting ProRes files.
    For ProRes export, working in sRGB 2.1 colour space gives me the most accurate results.

    Really nice looking piece. It should be noted that it really helps that every shot in this piece is either a sunset, silhouette, or some sort of low split light setting.
    The really great thing about the OG pocket camera is that you can get that cinematic look in the middle of the day, overcast, or even indoors. Watch this, shot with the pocket and 16mm film and you’ll see what I mean. Very vivid looking images. 
    It will be interesting to see what people will create with th new pocket. Hope I can be proved wrong.

    Watch this video and stop saying that Pocket4K is not сinematic. In the hands of the master with taste and good lenses, even the GH5 is beautiful. Otherwise, it is too early for you to have such a camera, learn to shoot first
    Shot on GH5 using Lomo anamorphic and spherical lenses (50mm roundfront and +1 +2 diopters in a few shots). Graded with FilmConvert using KD 5207 Vis3.
