I have nothing against it. If a camera can handle 8k it means it can handle every other smaller resolutions at higher framerate and bitrate. I can even imagine using 8k myself once in a year to do a smooth dolly zoom effect

    Haha... another hopeful...
The enthusiast crowd are very vocal, but Canon knows that its all talk and no walk...
Their bread and butter are consumers... and who do the Consumers follow??? The pros...
Even if the enthusiasts were able to sway the pros or the general publics opinion, then you get some crippled version of what what we really want.... only 4K/24p with 1.5 crop.... no 1080/24p.... no 1080/120.... so and so forth. Just look at the RP as an example... its not going to be better than that...

Truth. For them it's like taking candy from a baby. Why make the effort, when you can sit back and still watch the money come in. Though you'd think at some point we've hit the point of no return, when they seriously miscalculated their luck and it finally runs out and are surpassed from all sides by the competition with people now jumping over to the latest greatest shiny toy to never look back.
Though, admittedly I'm getting my first Canon in years with the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Sure, in true Canon fashion it lacks 24p, rather than Canon's own benchmark DPAF it has quite shoddy contrast based C-AF, does have a mic-in, but nowhere to place an external mic for instance... but Sony doesn't exactly come through with their RX100-series either and the latest Panasonic LX100 iteration was a laughable update. The thing seems killer for social media content creation, maybe not the best thing for actual video production and cinematography, but then again it's a compact cam for crying out loud. Canon is pretty much the epidemy of 'point-n-shoot'. And we live in a world where videos shot on shaky potatoes go viral, so, picture quality really isn't the end all when you've got the right content. It's more about going the shortest distance from hitting the record button to the upload one (saves you time endlessly pixel peeping/grading/managing storage etc too) and that's where they're winning the crowd over. They're the no0b's choice.
But I have no interest whatsoever in their EOS-M or EOS-R line-ups. For actual video production and cinematography I'd still pick up a feature-rich Panasonic.

I was reading the comments on YouTube... Now their reputation is really on the line - someone started questioning if their 8K cameras are really 8K? Or upscaled internally from another lower resolution... “how low can you go????” let’s do the limbo!!!

No, they're going to add internal CDNG PLAYBACK not recording.
No chance of 4K/120p in my opinion.
I see it does 25/30p in H.264 4K mode... So they definitely need to get 24p and 25p working in Cinema DNG.
Hope Sigma is listening to us and not to idiots.

Maybe there should be more than one public vote.
One in the category of pixel peeping image quality... best resolution, best dynamic range, etc, etc.
And one judging the talent behind the camera?
Because sometimes people don't focus on both at once

Because he's going to have to hand his camera to somebody?  Only kidding, sure you won't be
I like the suggestion by the way from BTM that the winner of the vote should shoot something with the last place person's camera when he receives it. I have another suggestion... maybe they hand it back to the poor guy someday later so they feel at least a bit less bad?!
And I would like the winner to perhaps pass on some shooting tips to them, in a little letter when they return it. What do you guys think?

The results of my morning walk yesterday....
Not an official entry (I may as well just put the camera in a box now in preparation for shipping it..) just a kind of proof of concept test.
I went for the "it's rubbish, so mess it up and make it look like early film" but I know very little about early film, so there you go.
Equipment used: Panasonic GF3, Super Takumar 55mm f1.8, generic 0.7x m42 to m43 SB.  Graded in Resolve.
    Things I learned:
It's difficult to focus on a fixed LCD screen with no MF assist functions It's kind-of pocketable and the tiny fold-out Manfrotto Pocket worked well for low angles on the ground, benches, rubbish bins, etc People really get freaked out...  one guy walked into the middle of my shot, stopped, pulled out his phone and using selfie mode had a good look at me and took a photo.  All the time I'm just standing there looking at the screen on the camera and thinking "get out of my shot! why couldn't you have just walked though it like a normal person!" I should have added way more film-grain in post to survive the YT compression The camera has no manual controls in video mode, but if you set the camera to manual stills mode, 1/50 and base ISO then you can adjust ND/aperture to expose correctly, then when it auto-everything's in video mode it should get a 1/50 with base ISO....   it should do, anyway.  This wasn't shot with an ND, just in dark conditions, and some of these shots weren't set up right so shutter angles will be all over the place. I took a photo (RAW still) and video from the same location, then overplayed them in post to compare.  Whomever manages to get 4k will absolutely kill everyone else.
