Internal.
Next Monday a friend of mine will shoot exactly the same scene with a 8K RED, edit the footage on a 4K timeline and then...we will compare: NX1 4K RAW vs RED RAW...
I am very curious...

Juxx989 reacted to MicahMahaffey in VFX Heavy NX1 Short Film (Game Station)
Here is a VFX heavy short film I shot on the Samsung NX1 years ago, finally decided to finish it and get it online so here it is! The last scene is the canon T3i
all lenses used are the rokinon 24mm f1.4 and Canon 50mm f1.4
Watching in 4k is strongly recommended as YouTube loves compressing things

Juxx989 got a reaction from mkabi in The "Annihilation" of Paramount Pictures
I saw this move Annihilation its ok but I don't think there is much there, there. It feels like one of those endurance movies testing the boundaries of patience and comprehension... very dream like reminded me a lot of Solaris(1976)
SPOILERS BELOW
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I found of note is the director read the book but refused to go back to it afterward as he wrote the script on the "feeling" it gave him and the things general things he remembered from reading it.
Some think its a cancerous bubble on earth that is deconstructing and rebuilding itself to be the perfect hidden organism like the shimmer was a giant petri dish where the thing started to copy cells then move on to simple organisms like grass and flowers and build its way up to Humans the ultimate organism?and after it mimicked us perfectly it destroyed its "Lab" or "Cocoon" the shimmer had birthed its own Adam & Eve that could do whatever they want or populate the earth undetected and unimpeded.
Some say it's about the power of human will and resolve or lack thereof... All the women that went in the shimmer had basically destroyed lives and no real reason to come back one was an addict one lost her family, one was facing terminal cancer. All but the protagonist chose this suicide mission with the idea in their heads they are not coming back. So perhaps like some twisted genie the shimmer granted their wish not to exist in different ways but portman was determined to get back to her husband she had purpose and will so it granted her that wish
Some say It speaks on the Idea that many times we are our own worst enemy and sometimes destroy our lives subconsciously Pertaining to natalie she was a seemingly happily married successful Phd but chose to cheat on her husband perhaps feeling she doesn't deserve her happiness... I believe she said something like I hate the person I cheated with and I hate myself as well the freudian death drive... some people that have what seems to be everything wealth status etc. and are compelled to do stupid things that make no sense harming themselves (Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner...etc Trump?) She didn't enjoy the sex it she hated herself for it yet she still did it....and its implied the husband found out about the affair and accepted the suicide mission in melancholia for her actions.
Why was her house in the shimmer? don't know.... Because he subconscious will to get back home was so strong the shimmer manifested her goal?
The sheepish quiet chick perhaps her greatest subconscious wish was just not to exist anymore and she just disappeared?
It seems every woman got the the fate they wanted or expected.
Would like to see again when Netflix puts on USA servers (When?)
And don't get me started on that whole cave thing... ???
I think this movie it is a work of art. it has something to say.
Perhaps the ultimate theme is: be careful what you wish for or expect (consciously or subconsciously) because the universe may give it to you.

Juxx989 reacted to Matthew Hartman in NX2 rumors
Well that did it. Now my obsessive curiosity just kicked in. ARGH!
If this is true and the record time is decent (get ready for large and fast SD cards) this renders this camera up there with the top of the line cinema cams. That image sensor has a 14bit 6.5k RAW signal.

Juxx989 reacted to bmusikaudio in NX1 Film
Thanks. We should be releasing a trailer in the next month or so. We are about 60 percent done editing. Had to grab some pick up scenes.
For lenses, I like using older ones for NX1. I shot at 2-2.8 split. This camera has some really deep inky blacks, which I love, but using older lenses lowers the contrast, which gives me an extra half to 3/4 stop when used in conjunction with filters.
Generally I expose for mood. I use white pro mist/soft fx filters, fog/haze, nets to roll off harsh highlights or under expose to protect important highlights or just look in another direction to avoid them. I've found through testing that I can safely recover about 1.5 stop of shadow detail before the image begins falling apart. But honestly I just let things go dark. I rarely recover shadows. But if i need too, i know i can. If theres something that needs to be seen, I'll generally bring in a light fill bounce/light to bring up levels. I don't rely on bumping up iso. Messes with grain texture too much. I like to keep images clean and consistent. I rarely go above 400 iso. Sometimes 800 if I'm short on time.
My thought process with limited DR cameras is to shoot for end goal. WYSIWYG.
We were influenced by Netflix Daredevil, which also goes pretty dark. You definitely have to have trust. Producers and Directors get scared of that amount of darkness. I always keep reference images on my phone to show them just in case.
Here are some additional images and BTS screens.
A rough clip of some pick up shoots. We haven't color graded, stabilized or fine tuned the edit. This is literally something I threw together to see how the scene feels. It's low bitrate to keep size down. The original is really clean.
I also use rolling shutter repair on most clips. It helps with motion cadence in my eyes.
The fight scene was shoot last year. Again, another rough cut.

Juxx989 reacted to freeman in Rebranded our web series, now called WORK
Hey Eoshd, posted a couple months ago of a new web series on working artists I created with my friends at the UUU Art Collective. Our original chosen name was ART:WORKS which we really loved, however due to similarities with a local series called ART/WORK we decided to rebrand. We only lost a couple hundred views so in the grand scheme of things no big deal. So i'd like to share the first 3 episodes of our new series: WORK.
Repoussé
Mural Arts
Studio Photography
We're really trying to reach and inspire other freelance artists, filmmakers included. I may thrn the camera in on myself in a future episode. Cheers everyone!

Juxx989 reacted to Matt Kieley in 15 Second Horror Films: Crawlspace & A Gripping Tale
Last year I DP'd and edited two films for the 15 Second Horror challenge, and I meant to share them here, but forgot. The first is Crawlspace, written & directed by my friend Chess Maxwell:
Crawlspace made it onto Lloyd Kaufman's top ten, which was exciting for us since we're all fans of The Toxic Avenger and were inspired by Troma when we were teenagers. You can see it and the rest of "Uncle Lloyd"s Top Ten here:
The other film was "A Gripping Tale" written & directed by my friend Steve Sanders:
Both were shot on the Panasonic G7 in CineV with Canon FD lenses. This was one of the most fun shoots I've worked on recently. Both were shot at the same location, same day, back to back, with the same cast and crew, and I'm pretty proud of our work on these.

I fully expect it will one day. At least, manufacturers seem to pour a lot of resources into trying.
I always knew the NX1 was a slut. ?

Juxx989 reacted to لطفي بوعكاز in Should I buy a Samsung NX1 now May 2017???
thanks I know about twixtor just haven't explored it further but how higher of a shutter do you have to be to get it right? at 30P my shutter is 60 in normal mode.
Another new NX1 100% video footages, the night shots just 1 small LED light with ISO 400 the rest all natural lighting.
