Well it would be a mistake to include h265 in a pro camera, that every editor has problems with. If they would include prores or any other pro codec on the R5(besides the cripple hammer overheating limit), the sales on the Canon cinema series would take a big hit.

BTW so far only Samsung 970 EVO Plus works without problem, 960 Pro stopped recording in 4 min on 8k Raw.

Thats true, but in this case its not an advantage as you have lots of space between the subject and the background.

I dont like the high shutterspeed + looks oversharp to me + due to the lowlight a lot of the footage looks weird/mushy(maybe could be solved by crushing the shadows/blacks a bit more).

I got my R5 10 days ago and did many tests and then did 3 photo shootings and 1 photo + video, here my observation so far:

Regarding the photo part is simply the best camera I had so far, very good resolution, AF, FPS, very quick in all the operations. The EVF is quite good but could be even better in term of color representation there is quite a bit difference between the EVF and the LCD. EVF with a bit more res would also be good. The 1DX III is still better in initial AF acquisition, panning fast and balance with big lenses as with the 200-400 is not that great with the R5 probably a battery grip would help. For the rest the R5 is better.
Need to do a side by side scaled down at 20mpix on high iso to see if there is an advantage on the 1Dx there. On 1-1 pixel noise is better on the 1Dx but equalized not sure the difference is so big.

On the video side 8K RAW is just incredible and a tad better than 5.5K 1DX RAW, good RS, good DR and great sharpness. 8K RAW is easier to edit in Resolve than 4k h265 10 bit… form factor is great and for gimbal is perfect with the swivel lcd. VND adapter is just so much more practical that front screw ND and VND. Not telling something new here. AF is also great, animal AF is ok with horses but not great did not test with other animals yet.
Did test on the Ronin S with IBIS on and off and definitely with on is better still sometimes I have the impression is fighting a bit against each other but need to test more.
Strangely the wifi live view on the R5 there is way less latency and more fps than the 1Dx III, the app is the same but is much more usable.  1Dx is basically unusable.

For the photo plus video I did ca. 45 min of pictures (380 frames taken) and then switched to video and did capture around 18 min of 8K RAW in the remaining 1h in 1-5 min takes. Had to change the battery almost at the end and no sign of overheating but condition were ideal 12 c°. I did not turn off the camera between takes but I had the LCD timeout set at 1min.

Things that they should improve via firmware:
The resolution/framerate menu I thought it was better than the 1Dx but actually is bad as if you have on or off the high quality mode it blocks out thing. Why on earth I cannot move from 8k RAW to 4K HQ directly there. The 120fps should also be there and not a separate menu. Zebras and peaking cannot be active at the same time Zebras are not available in 8K RAW with Log on, it is with Log off Histogram while recording would be good but still is not for Canon, even better vectorscopes Clog 2 & 3 as promised Cinema RAW Light as promised (here I expect 20-30% size reduction) H265 10bit 4:2:0 or XF-AVC for easier editing HFR should be with audio and not already conformed to 25 or 30 fps You should be able to assign the audio gain to one of the settings wheels, really annoying that you need to press q, press the audio chart and then you can use the wheel. Improve further the overheating issue
Things that could be better but not fixable via firmware :
No overheating at all Bigger LCD Even less latency and more fps over wifi I would prefer a dedicated switch for video/photo, only button that you can assign for quick switch is the m-fn VND Adapter should have a way to lock the wheel it is a bit too easy to bump on it Full or at least mini hdmi instead of micro one I would prefer dual CFexpress but I get why they put and SD instead

Im referring to the canon r5 files, and yeah I know its a hardware problem. And h265 is a nightmare vs raw or prores.

    - export prores on windows
    - better graphics support jpg, png, psd without jagged lines etc
    - auto color correct clips to each other (manual matching cameras kinda sucks without a color checker)
    - better render quality for h264

Setup times are important, putting a monitor on your camera when you pull it out of your backpack does take some time and you might loose a cool shot + its not fun, I would rather be tempted to leave the camera at home/hotel. Putting it away in your backpack with the monitor still attached it might hurt the sdi/hdmi connector.
But I do really like the komodo, if I did this thing full time  I would def get one. And get a bunch of other cameras as well.

I understand your point fully, but I think this a bit less true since BMRAW. When you look at the bitrate of Braw and from feedback of some friends who work with it and Davinci Resolve, it works very very well. At 12.1 which I saw some test footage is just slightly less sharp than other less compressed version, we are clearly less heavy than normal PRORES. We are closer to H264 compression rate!!!

Its great that another camera manufacturer have embraced BRAW; such a shame its Nikon, who have ham-fisted it with a paid upgrade and limited their internal recordings.  Why not simply include this upgrade with the new release?  I'm sure they delay these things a few months to justify charging extra for it.  The S1 did much the same, though I suspect a  last minute change of heart led Panasonic to instead offer it for free for a limited period.  Maybe Nikon will do the same, but I won't hold my breath.
I have a wish that Panasonic would allow a possible S1H successor to output BRAW.  It would be a great addition and make it worth buying for me, even if the AF is a bit crap.  😄

I was stunned to see this from this article that the two Zii models are to shoot 4k BMRaw at 60 fps with a future firmware upgrade in February for the z6ii and perhaps at launch for the z7ii in december. One thing to remember is that the z6ii shoots with a 1.5 crop (DX) but the Z7 shoots with only 1.1x crop.

Well saw some footage of the R5 and the S1H yesterday side by side, and the R6 colors were much better. The S1H skintones were really red, dynamic range is important but nice colour is more important. And I have a S5 on preorder. If canon bumps out an firmware update to fix the problems with the R6, I might cancel my pre-order and get the R6 instead.

At 0:08 Strange that the highlight on the hair is so much hotter on the ursa then on the other camera's. Looks like a complete different temperature. Not sure if its a bad/good thing prolly depends on the situation. Gotta say the R5 is doing a hell of a job competing with these 2 (too bad of the 8K file storage, which ads up a lot costs for the R5 + the overheating otherwise I would already be rocking one right now).

@Neumann FilmsThe new komodo does look very interesting though. Not buying right now, but I see myself getting one in a year or 2.

I think at this point you are focusing too much on things at the pixel peeping level that won't matter to most people. 60FPS is pretty much the new standard and will probably look identical between the S1H, S5, and GH5 as well as most others that shoot 4K 60FPS when all else is equal (DR. Color Science, etc). I have always considered the high frame rate stuff where it does it in camera to be a bit of an exotic workaround that will never yield the same results as doing it the traditional way by increasing the framerate in the file.
Also, are you planning on using the new body 100% for video and don't care about the size and weight of the S1H, if so I'd get the S1H. If you have any photography plans at all, or you are trying to setup a light travel/docu kit then the S5 would probably be the best bet. I really think either camera has the specs needed to exceed the capabilities of most filmmakers and it will really come down to how well each one meets your individual needs or fits into your current or planned workflow.
I did a ton of my own research on the S1H, the S5, and the R6 prior to choosing the S5 and at the end of the day the S5 simply met my needs better in more areas than the other options. A final selling point for me was using the S5 on a gimbal. The S5 with the EF adapter combined with the Canon 24mm 2.8 is actually lighter and smaller than my previous GH5 setup.

I own the S1H and the S5. and there are a a whole lot more issues than you think!
The 8-bit stuff is only 4:2:0, and it's still H.264, not H.265. The same issue exist for the S1H, but we don't care because we don't have time limits. The 1080p VFR stuff is completely wrecked. The 100Mbps 1080p MOV files have been replaced with 28 Mbps MP4 trash. The timecode feature is a complete waste. If you can jam sync it, or get a jam from it, what the hell is the point? The only thing between the S5 and the S1H that is the same is 4K 4:2:2 150Mbps IPB in 24p and 30p everything else is 8-bit 4:2:0. If you buy this cam, do it knowing you are going to add a Ninja V for ProRes RAW. Other than that get the S1H. Battery life is good though. But with the limitations, don't think that this is gonna be a killer B cam, because what it can do is too limiting. Maybe if you think of it as a FF GH5 with full V-Log for gimbal work, that will meet your expectations.

If you don't care about: timecode, unlimited record times, a more substantial build, slightly more usable screen configuration, top LCD, better EVF (I never use it for video anyway), then I would get the S5.
I don't notice a huge difference between 400 and 150 10-bit recording, so you should be fine there. Can always get 6k or ProRes Raw (soon) or All-I ProRes recording with an external recorder.

I haven't used the S5 yet, but I do own and have used the S1H for the last year. I love the camera. For me, the biggest advantages are timecode (a must for my doc work when I have external audio), the All-I 400Mbps (sometimes required), and the unlimited record times. The ProRes Raw is great, but the S5 will be getting that soon.
Otherwise, I think the S5's more compact size, better AF (though the S1H is confirmed to get it), and the already amazing 10-bit 422 150Mbps codec that I most often use on the S1H anyway, make it a pretty compelling option.
