Let me rephrase what I said. I believe that if you're after that overall softer / filmic look, the bmpcc will get you there easier and quicker. There's no sense shooting with a GH5 if you can get that look with less work. A colorist friend of mine often says, "the least amount of moves wins.

Interesting.  I watched some of the wolfcrow review of the LF (I know some people here don't like him, but he has more experience of the industry than I do) and he said that the feedback from rental houses was that the cameras with larger than S35 sensors just aren't that popular.  He suggested that the manufacturers might have overestimated lots of people would be coming from FF DSLR revolution to cinema cameras, but who knows.

Awesome! Arri is set for another 10 years of camera domininating. Hopefully one day I can afford one.

I’ve been working out my own methods on this stuff for quite some time now, and as someone who also shoots some actual film here and there, some of the extreme minutiae are maddening to mail down, and prompted me to move into Resolve’s Fusion tab for many operations. It has been like learning to ride a bike all over again, and I’m not there yet, but Fusion is absolutely  powerful enough to get me where I want to go eventually. There is complex spatial and temporal interplay (especially with overscanned footage) that simply can’t be done easily with power grades and edit page compositing. I guess do 99% of people even notice? Probably not, but we do, right?
Im interested to see how filmbox is implemented, as well as Tom Bolles power grade (which for that approach looks to provide a lot of nuanced manipulations resulting in the most convincing Color tab results I’ve seen so far). I will probably grab Cineprint 16 just to see if I can replicate the various nodes in Fusion alongside my own spatial machinations.
Digging deep into this stuff at all kills render times like crazy, but that’s maybe half the fun, right?
I still think halation could be brought 80-90% of the way there in the physical world with a bespoke filter from some expert like Tiffen or Schneider. Film has a set tonal dynamic range, which honestly a number of digital cameras get close enough to these days as to not make much difference, but spatially especially with regards to halation, the dynamic range in film’s reaction is much higher. Basically, something can be blown out, but two blown out sources of different luminance will still show a difference in the amount and reach of halation, and that reaction is still way outside the dynamic ability of digital capture... but a physical filter I believe could be constructed to react with that nuance and that could be subsequently baked into digital capture. Tiffen’s glimmerglass (of which there is a “bronze” variant already) looks to my eyes to be a prime candidate. If that could be tweaked to be red (or add red), it would to my eyes go a long way to achieving that nuance, and a bit of digital halation would be the added tweak to polish it off to taste.
It’s super fun to build film effects, but at the end of the day, it’s also not all that difficult to just shoot film on certain projects, and in that case, the look is just... there. I’d encourage anyone who is spending significant time on emulation to also put some solid time into researching 16mm cameras, and doing a bit of hunting until you find a kit that fits your use-case. SR3s and Aatons are nice cameras for sure, but there are plenty of other very capable cameras out there, and you can still find good deals if you are patient.

You can find that adjustment in the picture profiles. Select a picture profile ( you can find profiles on Ablecine website and how to load them) you can then go into the matrix on that page and select the white balance temp.

You build what you want to an acceptable baseline that satisfies you and then release it into the wild.  What happens after that is anybody's guess.
If you think video is bad, you should try making music recordings and then giving it over to the world.

But what are necessary precautions?  No one Country or Health department can agree.  I've had relatives catch the virus just shopping for food.   You either shut down the World and ruin the Economy or accept the deaths.  Or choose the balance in-between, which does damage to both.  Its an easy get out by so many to think that following the rules could defeat a virus.  Especially as the rules differ depending where you are.
There was only one way out and thats with a vaccine.  Lockdowns and restrictions are simply short term remedies but not by any means an end to the mess.

Yeah I hope to shoot again in 2021, as 2020 has been a dud shooting wise. Allthough 2020 was not a bad year for me, got way more time for the family, got to work from home saved me a countless hours of travel/traffic/getting ready.

I do kinda agree with Tom Cruise though, I think you would be pissed off as well, if you are investing millions into a movie, changing heaven and hell to work around the virus and then some people neglect the safety rules, which could end up shutting down the movie, putting a lot of families in financial trouble. I get annoyed as hell from watching TV where the speakers are not respecting the covid rules. Sitting too close togheter, not wearing any masks etc. Its not that hard.. Dont do it for yourself, but do it for your family, your friends, the healthcare, your job. Each infection has the potential to create a new lockdown, its a vicious circle. If everybody just took necessary precautions we would already be out of this mess.

When in the future an even more super deadly virus breaks out, I will not wait on the goverment or anybody else to take action, as it turns out A LOT of people are unresponsible (including friends, family, coworkers, goverment,...). And the only option is to isolate yourself completely. I don't want to sound like a prepper nutjob. But I think everybody can take their own conclusion about human kind in general.

While the C70 has many advantages and attractive features, I think the above is probably the most important factor of any camera because it impacts the level of creativity and inspiration of the video, not just what colour or clarity the pixels are in the output files.
I consistently find that creativity evaporates when I feel like i'm fighting the equipment rather than it having my back and supporting the work.  In the creative pursuits, this is a night-and-day difference, but of course, is also different for all people, so it's about the synergy between the camera and the user rather than one camera suiting everyone.
    Great stuff!

Only just got it and not done enough to test it yet. Everything feels solid and snappy so far. Got Resolve 17.1 beta on there. And LumaFusion iOS app runs natively in MacOS on it. Interesting to try that with a mouse and keyboard.
I am sure there will be throttling. No fan. Not even a vent. But it's like complaining the car you use to do the supermarket run is only coming 12th in F1 qualifying rather than pole position. Shouldn't even be talking about high-end video tasks on this class of laptop 🙂

M1 goes back to the ARM1 in 1985 which is a chip I brushed shoulders with as a young kid familiar with the Acorn / BBC Micro computers at the time (and in the early 90's) in British schools. RISC architecture was showing some serious strengths way back then.
When you take Moore's law and many years of Apple investment in efficient mobile silicon you get this...

An actual 64bit CPU core occupies a tiny part of the die, and the integrated GPU about one quarter. The DRAM is pretty much on the same die and is accessed extremely effectively by both CPU and GPU.
I took delivery of the MacBook Air M1 last week, from Amazon for £999...
It is an ultra thin / featherweight class affordable consumer laptop.

With a motherboard the size of a small TV remote control
And probably only a little larger than what's in the iPad Pro.
So I booted it up and put something very intensive and demanding on...

Top-end PC game designed for Nvidia RTX cards and Intel CPUs.
It runs via Steam, via an interpreter (Rosetta 2). Not even a native app.
First signs this is not a normal fanless ultra thin laptop is I easily get 60fps with good looking graphics, nothing turned down all the way. The resolution looks so good, as if there's either upscaling, some A.I involved or some new kind of display scaling magic going on. Yet this is with the performance hit of Rosetta (about 20%), on a PC game port running x86 code with integrated graphics!!
It smashes... demolishes... everything else in the same class.
Intel, Nvidia and AMD should be extremely worried.
When / if Apple scale up this architecture to 32 core high-end consumer territory with a fan and dedicated Apple GPU, the rest are in trouble.
There is so much custom silicon in the CPU... video editing, encoding, image editing, all buttery smooth so far and this is the least powerful Apple silicon machine they will ever make.

Nice thumbnail.:) @Matins 2 Daguerreotype, right. Pristine film look would be possible with a BMPCC as the cheapest option, in 4K one could try a used G9 in HLG with the 10bit update for 600 or 700usd. I already got a run for my money years ago filming 8bit HD, in natural profile and 100mbit with the GH5, because the 10bit codec was still new for Davinci Resolve :) Mission accomplished:)
For even mored dependable results use a PMW F3 with its external 10bit output. They gotten more expensive now due to their good rep. Would love to get my hands on a F5 or shoot something meaningful with my F3 first. :)
