DBounce got a reaction from webrunner5 in Gimbal or motion control?
We do not own the sliderkamera 6 axis, but we do own both motion controllers and gimbals. The gimbals are great if you are filming on the go and you are not the subject. They are no good if you are filming yourself. The motion controller makes more sense in this case. Granted the motion controller is also useful as a second shooter.
We use both the Ronin S and Edelkrone Motion Kit with HeadPlus. Both are quick to setup. The Edelkrone can be aimed by hand, which is a real timesaver.
If I could have only one, it would be the motion kit. Why? The motion kit captures cinematic motion every time. It never makes mistakes because the human factor is removed from the performance. Every move is repeatable; which makes for the possibility to create some very interesting vfx scenes.

Lol wait.. you're the one that brought up NASA uses Nikon for still photography.. in a Canon thread.. on a video-centric forum.. and I'm the one turning things into a pissing contest?!!
Cmon man, you went there. All i did was post a relevant link to an article which btw you thanked me for finding interesting. Why now the hissy fit?? Woke up wrong side of bed?
This place is like a ticking time-bomb, always with the drama.. especially if you dare say anything remotely positive about Canon, then all hell breaks loose, SMH.
FYI i started out with Nikon, shot on them for decades. Still own much of their glass & an FM2. Why would I feel remotely threatened by astronauts shooting stills?
So please mate.. take a deep breath and ask yourself..

Ahh the old my smartphone can take the same pictures as any camera argument. That's why all pro shooter's have switched to smartphones ?
Regarding DR it's probably like the 6Dmkii which has excellent DR. My take, a shooter that can't get great looking images with either camera needs to get to work. Because it's not the camera that sucks..

FWIW i've done work on most platforms including big screen projects. The digital content company I'm invested in uses mostly Sony (FS7) gear these days. We rent whatever fits the budget/project. I'm not brand agnostic. That said for personal ownership, Canon does make most sense for me currently: on an ecosystem level they offer DSLR/MILC/Cine bodies, and a vast range of still/cine lenses usable across them. I wish Fuji/Nikon could do the same, maybe I would switch back to them. DPAF is also the only AF i can trust as a single operator, it's kind of a big deal to me and for sure what locked me in their system for video (most cine cams have garbage AF).  I could go on about the other subjective reasons why Canon appeals to me but you've probably already heard them all!
That being said my choice of gear and "defense" of it on these forums doesn't imply Canon is the perfect company or is beyond criticism. But I do find the vehement online bashing towards them isn't always justified and doesn't really reflect itself so much in the real world, these academy award winners being the case in point, without glorifying that too much or anything..

yes, camera is not the big deal. You have no need for an expensive camera anymore today. You need production values and skills.

This is a nonsensical argument. Too much low hanging fruit to pick off here. If this is honestly your view, what can I say... good luck with that!

I think OIS is more about micro jitters from hand movement also. EIS is better if what you are looking for is a replacement for a gimbal. The Samsung Super Steady Shot as seen on the new S10 phones is a good example of just how effective EIS can be for video. Granted, in its current implementation the phone is limited to HD footage. But nevertheless, the concept shows huge promise. A system such as this combined with a camera array and ample processing power will likely negate the need for gimbals and point and shoot cameras in the not too distant future.

@sanveer it also has post re-focus ability. This is pretty amazing in a package this small. And while it is true that the image processing does take some time, from the review I have seen it does not slow down image capture as the processing is done in the background.

@Snowbro I get my EOS R tomorrow. I can confirm the 1DXMK2 draws a lot of attention. Almost as much as the C200. My mirrorless camera’s are far less conspicuous. I’m also hoping the trio can play nice together. When the “Pro” version is released I will buy it if all goes well with the ‘R’.

Definitely and I'm mostly in the same boat. However for those who do need it there's now an option in a very compact cheap package, with a pretty remarkable full frame sensor.

Yeah, but that's kind of cheating because the 8-bit on the C200 is way better than it should be

Seems I've gotten pretty good at understanding how Canon will cripple their new cameras?
???Or maybe they read my post, so they know what to cripple?
I bet Canon will cripple the "Pro" version of the EOS R by adding that new sensor with BSI and DPAF... with Eye Dectect that works. And I also bet they'll screw us over by adding IBIS, dual card slots and a higher resolution EVF... a wider flip out screen and raw output ? We can only hope they remember that CLog is for losers and leave it out.
Dam you Canon, I really hope you don't dare put out such a camera.

Most here want their footage to look cinematic or filmic... I don't think the "real world" is either of those things. And I also feel most people want to look good on video... not ordinary... which of course the "real world" is.
If you are trying to capture "real world"... well, don't worry about lighting... because no one has a gaffer following them around making sure they look good at every angle... and that the shadows hit their face just right. At least they don't in the "real world".
Throw the rule of thirds... and every other rule out the window... the "real world" doesn't follow those rules.
Gimbals... you don't need no stinking gimbals... "real world"!
You'll save a bunch of time... your footage might end up looking a bit ordinary... a bit too "real world", but if that's the look your going for... good for you.
However when I shoot I do want my subjects to look good. I definitely want the end product to look cinematic. I may fail in this effort more often than not... but I will continue to try to achieve the look.

You do know Canon is adding eye AF to the EOS R via firmware don’t you? I’m not knocking that the RP sounds like good value, but the EOS R has 10 bit out and CLog, magnesium alloy build and a larger battery. I feel the RP is a good option if money is an issue. However, barring that the R is still better overall. And well it should be, it cost substantial more.
