Just asking, is there a chance that you interpreted HLG as video range in your NLE? My understanding is that it's full range, and it might look clipped when interpreted as video range, even though it is not.

I'd say it is far away from true. From all samples I saw - including that last one from Max Yurev - for me it seems that at iso3200 video frames from GH5 have obviously more details than GH5s. It looks like GH5s has some enormously agresive noise reduction algorithm deep inside of codec usage. Testing samples, I found that up to iso 3200, GH5 with simple temporal noise reduction values in Resolve 14 keeps more image resolution than GH5s. Yes, GH5 is completely useless at iso6400, but level of plasticity in GH5s image at the same iso 6400 value simple is not at all for professional use as advertised.

Lack of OLED monitors as well. Dell was supposed to release a 31" OLED 5k and canned it.

    Agreed 100%!
Now we just need the displays to catch up.
I have an LG OLED and it's wonderful, and there are a few HDR projectors (mostly 1080p) but there's a real lack of HDR computer displays and laptops out there - and to be honest I think I know why. The brightness would cause eyestrain at such close viewing distances.

Wasn't digging. I just put in 'Fashion film GH5', lol. But I get what you mean.
    - Best stuff might've come from folks that happen to be on EOSHD as well. Luke Neumann and Albert Fast too. Guess that's something we can be proud of as a community.

With full VLOG curve and option for turning off sharpness this already would make it an exellent buy for 2500 USD.
Additional 10bit in 4K 60p and 10bit HD from 72p upwards to 120p would be exellent and should be possible assets for marketing such an additional choice of GH5s camera.

    I agree with Thomas's conclusions :
"Anyway, I'll continue to do some more testing, but to be honest, I’m not sure I would use the X-Pro 2 for video. There are just too many limitations in my opinion. Apart from not being able to adjust the picture profile, there’s also the really frustrating issue of not being able to switch between the EVF and the screen when recording. The sharpness is too high for my tastes too. If you’re shooting in controlled conditions the dynamic range is probably not going to be an issue, but outside, it limits what you can do, to an extent. It’s all well and good having all the different picture profiles, but in any situation with any kind of scene with a dynamic environment, most will be too contrasty to be usable without sacrificing highlights or shadows. At the end of the day though, much of this is subjective, and I’m sure there will be people who vigorously disagree with me, but that’s ok. If it works for you, that’s great.
If you’re on the fence about buying a new X-Pro 2 and are considering it for video, don’t. If you want to stick with Fuji, the X-T2 will still be a better option as you can adjust the picture profiles and sharpness. Otherwise, the Panasonic GH5 or Sony a6500 are much better options at the moment if you want 4k. "

^^^Agreed, being able to make image adjustments in cam makes a big difference with the xt2, which still has a better image than Sony's APS-c cams IMO, its just a little quirky to shoot video. We'll see what the XH1 brings in a couple months. I don't get why Fuji added 4k, but left out the ability to adjust sharpness and such, weird.

Everyone would be better off in the future if they just use Cineform. When someone asks for Prores delivery, tell them that Cineform is better. If they insist tell them that they should be paying extra for the mac ecosystem, because at the end of the day it is costing you more money.
    Now it is open source.

I am a mac user, but please stop using proprietary codecs. Especially the ones that don't work across platforms by design like Prores.

Well, and if it has full V Log curve. That way it would be a mini eva. And here I am again in this thread. Thank you Oliver! @Oliver Daniel, any musicvid you shot with the gh5 in the tradition of your super cool gh3 stuff? That would be something to come back to this thread for. Or a new Neumann shortfilm production.

After grading some sample footage from LensProToGo (pulling a former powergrade I did for the GH5 to the EVA1 footage with no adjustments) I'm totally convinced, that the EVA-1 is the best looking camera below 10 grands. Colorscience is superb (only slightly different than the GH5 - Powergrade worked perfectly), absolutely no image "worseners" like sharpening nor noisereduction - great detail and noise structure, and great motion cadence as well as dynamic range. Only the 8 bit artifacts in the slowmotion parts worry me a bit.

Most of the cheap C500's I have seen are PL mount, and by the time you buy a external recorder to do 4k well, you might as well buy a stripped down C200 and get DPAF to boot.

    Never!
Because this is one of biggest differences between Prosumer and Professional cameras.
Professional cameras usually don't show any evidence of this kind of mess a GH5 e.g. produces. The 6K anamorphic mode is the closest to something like RED footage we can get.
But I still would love to see an option to disable all of it, so I have less work in Post to do.
And I don't need a better low light performance as much as I do need some better DR in uncontrolled lighting situations right now.
ATM I have to use noise reduction a lot since DR is simply not enough in many situations - while I never use any NR in low light situations, lol

Had to denoise all the clips in the chapel in the following film, while I didn't in the outdoor night scenes. (Shot on GH5/GX85/P4P)

(But probably user error or "Preference")
The oversharpening and lack of low contrast detail is not a sign of good IQ tbh, looks almost like DJI Mavic Pro footage. The A6500 doesn't suffer from that issue.

better at what? ultra low light, well that is nothing Godfather or other Bmovies were shot at. Not even the King of Darkness, Gordon Willis shot at ultra low light. Panasonic is not late at all. All their video orientated DSLMs have been top notch. GH5 will show less artefacts in low light but more noise. Which of the two looks more "filmic"? I say, noise over artefacts any time.
