I hear you but not everyone is film making. I'm trying to use my X-series cameras as a b-cam to my C100mk2 for interviews or as a stand-alone when I want a smaller kit.
The fact that the X-T2 and X-H1 cannot switch between batteries w/o interrupting the recording is a real bummer, certainly for the interview approach I prefer.
This becomes more challenging when doing both stills and video over the course of a working day and batteries have been partially drained in the grip. It's an issue for me and makes the new camera not working it.
Interesting. I experienced the flow of battery use the opposite in the X-T2 - grip first.
Results in blood pressure are the same however.

The problem with the grip is that the body can't switch batteries while recording. This is rarely mentioned even though it can be a real pain in the ass. Imagine you have 5 mins left in the battery inside the body and two fully charged batteries in the grip. You will still be limited to 5 mins of continuous recording, as the recording stops when the currently used battery dies. So you have to keep an eye on that, and in this case remove the battery if you plan a shot longer than 5 mins.

Com'on Jon, use the Vehydra 12mm at f/5.6 and and anything that you can follow will be in focus

For dual ISO you need separate analog circuits on the sensor. So hardware. The software just switches between these analog circuits at a specific ISO value.
There is no strictly software dual ISO because that means applying gain, which would always amplify the noise floor as well.

    The EOS M50 Rocks!

It's not the spec king of mirrorless cameras but the canon eos m50 just works! The auto focus, canon colors, canon menus, and just the overall ease of use makes this camera perfect for me and my passion projects.

Here is a link to some shots I grabbed with the camera while my students were filming their short film. Forgive me for the bad sound. The students recorded sound separately but not while I was filming. The sound is decent. Overall this was just a test to see how would this camera would look under cinematic lighting.

I got this camera for vlogging mainly but after seeing what it was able to produce with good lighting I'm definitely going to be using it for my short films.

I seem to have discovered a series of bad news. To make it less severe I will disburse it in Installments.
    1. The Z Cam E2 doesn't seem to have implemented the Dual Native ISO on their camera. I am sure it requires some custom circuiry or wiring with regard to the design, and Z Cam didn't think it was worth the effort or the sensor was too much effort for a small startup such as theirs and they circumvented the entire effort of implementing it with dual ISO. I am guessing, as a result the low light may suffer (greatly). There is a likelihood, that the Native ISO is ISO 100 and curiously at that ISO it seems to have/ they claim it has a dynamic range of 13.5 Stops.

I could obviously be wrong, so we will have to wait for confirmation from Z Cam.

That makes sense. With dual ISO sensors they way the circuitry is tuned, usually you sacrifice the performance at lower ISOs in order to gain performance in the higher ISOs.

@sam first of all thanks for the very informative test. To me it seems that there are occasional "hiccups" where S8 and 1DC in lesser degree miss a step and skip to the next. So motion cadence (defined as the quality of motion?)  is affected not only by shutter speed,  shutter type &  codec but also consistency of frame times.
But there is no need to get defensive... fuzzynormal just stated his opinion, and to a large extent I agree with him since shutter speed to me affects the motion cadence the most. Even in your test at the beginning I could not tell the difference, and only when I slowed down to 1/4 the speed I could point to the delays. I might not be the most sensitive person to the motion cadence, but I doubt the majority of people would notice either especially when not comparing it with other cameras. For example has anyone complained about the motion cadence of 1DC ?
Now the tessive shutter article that you posted is also very interesting. I didn't know about it, but that at least partly explains our subjective opinion that a slower shutter than 180 can help with the motion blur.
Let's keep this place on the positive side, and I welcome any tests that you do!
    Cheers

Yep I too find that using a slower than 180 shutter works great. 1/40 for 24p looks fine for fast motion.

World class DP's are not wrong.  They've earned the right to squint hard at their images and navel gaze about 'em.  They're upper echelon craftspeople that pixel peep because they can/should and have opinions that are relied upon for big budget productions.
I, on the other hand, am using a consumer camera that cost less that the Twizzler supply at their craft services table.  And, even then, the camera I'm using creates images that look ridiculously amazing.  The gap between what I have on my computer desk and what Roger Deakins is using is so close that even I sometimes have a hard time telling the difference.  And even if I could readily tell the difference, would it really matter anyway at my level?
For me the answer is "no."  I'm blessed with great cheap gear.  If it's not perfect it doesn't bother me all that much, honestly. I just work with it and make it the best I can.  Slowing the shutter is one trick I've used that I really like.  I dunno.  I'm a guy that likes noticeable motion blur.  Which, BTW, the tessive filter appears, to my eye, to allow.  So, a little more motion blur from a slower shutter just looks kind of "analog" to me --and that's neat-o.
I suggest that if anyone is bummed about how their camera renders motion cadence at a 180 shutter, try slowing it down a touch.  You might appreciate the results.  You may not.  But experimenting is allowed!

Hi! Here are some good quality screenshots from a clip that was posted in a BMPCC4k Facebook group. I have the footage in my HDD (12 GB for about 4 minutes), I may re-upload it (original link is gone), but I already feel like a thief writing this post ^^
The footage looks clean and beautiful. No visible noise, just a fine grain. It is not really representative of the final output of the camera but it looks very promising.
I graded it with FilmConvert and the BMPCC video preset. No sharpening, no noise reduction

What surprised me, even though the clips were synced, there appears to be drift by some of the cams. And not the kind where one or more of the pendelum shots either pull ahead or fall behind the others due to a tiny difference in frame rates like 23.98 vs 24. The clips seem to be drifting minutely ahead in one frame and then getting slightly behind in another and so on through out the clip, but they start and finish all together.
What's easiest to see is the impact of rolling shutter. And we've all seen at least one of the multitude of rolling shutter tests involving cmos sensors.  In the discussions that revolve around these tests, someone usually chimes in with "well the Alexa has a cmos sensor" and then the conversation turns to  "faster read out speed" This, http://tessive.com/mechanical-shutter-comparison/ , which many of us have seen before, at least outlines a difference, stark or otherwise.  Whether this is part of what people notice, or not?

I'm not sure I'm any the wiser about motion cadence but after about 55 seconds of watching that pendulum I definitely felt that I could've been prompted into giving up smoking and getting over my fear of flying

Except Black Magic, Atomos V and EZ, nothing much, really.. Where were all the big traditional names? Even JVC doesn't produce anything as of late. The LS300 was a good first try on the budget domain. Not much in sound either, DJI showed another Ronin S prototype. hm..

Interesting quote from John Brawley about the cooling on the P4k:
"Like all other BMD cameras, the fan is a constant on and hasn’t really been a problem as far as I’ve ever “heard”. The camera doens’t cool with a fan. Like ALexa, they use a solid state cooling system, piped to a heat sink. There the fan ensures the heat escapes quietly. So not like a Sony or RED where you suddenly get loud fan noises. Like an Alexa where it’s constant and quiet."
