Haha, I don't have tea! I have coffee. And yeah, am posting on a few other forums at the same time. I have a scary number of tabs open right now:

Well, not scary for me, if anything, that is on the low side for the number of tabs I have open!

Is however late over here in New Zealand, should go to sleep. But I had tomorrow's shoot cancelled a few hours ago, no need for me to get up early tomorrow now.

Oh damn, wish Sony promoted that more in more markets!

Ironically the C300mk2 has the best Autofocus out of all the higher end cinema cameras!

Am always jealous of how much history Europeans have on their doorsteps. Unlike us in comparison, we think a hundred or so year old house is "old".

As the receiver can be used with two transmitters, you could buy a second transmitter for a hundred and fifty and have a two channels of wireless for a very low cost.

Which is a pity, I'd rather see twenty risk taking $10 million dollar films than another $200 million dollar blockbuster.

And it could even end up being overall less financially risky for the studio, as there are decent odds one of those twenty films will end up being a break out success, vs the risk of putting all your eggs in the one basket in the hope of a "blockbuster film". #InvestmentDiversification

It is sad people even feel a need to defend the show.

How does a person even think like that?!?!

Or do they seriously think there are plenty of actresses out there who'd happily go for real from very morbidly obese to super hot overnight just for a Netflix show??

Well, as of course that doesn't seem likely at all it could feasibly be done for real that extreme transformation by any serious actress (although, we seem to more often see male actors willing to put their bodies through radical transformations?! Perhaps. I'd be curious to see a study on this), what are the alternatives?
Does a "skinny suit" exist to turn a morbidly obese person into a super model?
Of course not!! Don't be rediculious.

Thus of course she had to wear a fat suit.

FS700 Only usable on a tripod? Nonsense! I use mine on the shoulder, on a cinesaddle, handheld in front of my chest, and on a ronin. On the ronin, you just mount the camera as per normal and the recorder becomes the monitor you would normally use anyway mounted on the cross bar.
While it's true you probably can't use a single handed gimbal, for me, that's a non issue.
If you pfer a DSLR form factor, get the Pocket4k but if you prefer the feel of a proper cine camera, the FS700 w/odyssey is a fantastic choice.

IronFilm reacted to kye in Simulating a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter in post
I quite like the look of the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter, and thought that I could simulate the effect in Resolve.  (This conversation started in another thread but I think it deserves its own)
My theory was that if you can simulate it in post then it's more flexible, so you can mix it in to taste, and its also cheaper, applies to all your lenses, can be applied to historic footage, etc..
Here's the video showing what these filters do thanks to @heart0less

I've had an attempt and I'm now convinced that a completely accurate simulation is not possible.
To explain why, here's an unmodified screen grab:

and here's the waveform of that shot:

Here are the reasons you can't do a completely accurate emulation:
    The Tiffen doesn't "clip".
The flare from the light globe is much brighter than the flare from the hair light on the blond lady, but in the "no filter" waveform you will note that these have very similar values because the globe is clipped.  Also, the flare from the globe is coloured, which presumably is from the tint of the globe, however because the waveform is clipped that colour information is lost.
The Tiffen has a very wide flare pattern and will include lights outside the field of view.
There don't appear to be any flares from off-camera lights in the above shot, however we can tell that the Tiffen has a very wide pattern because the level of the dark background is raised for almost the entire width of the frame but the exposure seems to be the same (by comparing the levels of the grey cards at the left of the shot).
If you are using this filter and it is being hit with sunlight from any angle I think you'll get the influence of that everywhere in the shot, because although it might be very off-angle the sun is practically an infinitely bright light.
However, I think we can probably make a passable attempt that might work in some situations.
Here's the original of lady #1:

    and my simulation:

    Lady #2:

Same simulation as above applied to lady #2:

The logic of this preset is this:

The Tiffen has a non-linear rolloff, so I have simulated it using blurs of two different sizes, one smaller size applied to the Highlights and a larger one applied to the Mids and Shadows.  If I really wanted to get serious about it I might try converting to a Log colour space and doing the blur in there before converting back to REC709, but that's something for another day.
I think that preset looks pretty good for both of these shots, but unfortunately, if we apply that preset to the main shot then we see that it definitely isn't suitable for all shots:

If I play with the levels and add a third blur that is highlights only and is even smaller radius then we get a better result, but it highlights the issues I mentioned earlier:

If you're going to try and use this effect in post then I would suggest a number of things:
Shoot in Log and don't clip any highlights from any colour channel If you move the camera don't have any lighting going in and out of the frame (because the effect will start and stop when it does which will look very un-natural) Experiment with applying the effect before you convert from log to any other colour space (after all, a Tiffen filter gets applied before the conversion) Experiment with different blur types - I used Gaussian Blur in the above, but maybe other types will look nicer? The Mids and Shadows processing chain is the kind of "beauty" element, and the Highlights processing chain is the "flares" element, so you can mix these to your taste I hope that is useful, and that Tiffen don't object to me using clips from their video!!

As a Kiwi, if you swap out "Orkney" for "New Zealand" I won't get offended.

As a big time political nerd I really enjoy a good robust political discussion. My old flatmate and I would have great times as we're from opposite ends of the spectrum and could have debates for hours, he'd even get very agitated and almost shouting as he is jumping up and down! Literally. ha. (not me though, I'm pretty calm, wouldn't even raise my voice)
But never would he be upset at me personally (he'd just be shouting and stuff because he is so passionate about the topic), and we'd still be the firmest of best friends at the end of it.

Unfortunately this is a rare trait in people, as most people let it influence too heavily their opinion overall of the person. Thus sadly in recent years I've decided it is best I just keep my mouth shut (although sometimes... I can't resist the temptation!).

Because many people might think of you as scum from hell simply for sharing a differing political opinion.

As for me, I don't mind if you hold a crazy idea or three, as I can see the bigger picture that you're more than just that. For instance let's say you believe something totally mad like the earth is flat. Sure, I can 100% disagree with that, but also at the same time still respect you as a firm friend who will help me out in a pinch, a tech wiz whose expertise I respect, and a hardworking fellow crew member, or whatever else just to give an example.

"The jokes about rape and pedophilia that got James Gunn fired from his position as writer and director of Marvel’s hugely successful Guardians of the Galaxyfranchise are largely un-funny, tasteless, and in most cases disgusting. We should probably get that out of the way right up front, because to defend Gunn in the wake of Disney’s decision is—to a lot of reactionaries with itchy @ fingers—is to also defend the content of the tweets.
But a surprisingly often overlooked part of the conversation is the fact that the ringleader of Gunn’s downfall, Mike Cernovich, had to scroll back to 2011 to find the tweets at all. Seven years, conveniently bypassing apologies and mea culpas, overlooking attempts at change, ignoring statements like the one Gunn posted just days before he was fired"
"To deny someone the capacity to change is a dangerous precedent to set, not just in Hollywood where a person’s public life is on display 24/7 but to anyone engaging in the social media age. It sets the bar at, “What’s the point?” It gives the message that concepts like betterment and learning are futile because the sins of your past are an immovable weight that only gets heavier the harder you climb."
"The Guardians of the Galaxymovies are, boiled down, stories about shitty people—rascals, thieves, assassins, criminals—learning through intense trial and error to be less shitty. Not just that, but the literal magic that comes with the realization that your past does not define you. One of the most genuinely insane opinions I’ve seen come out of this situation is, “I still love the Guardians movies, but I can’t support Gunn.” You learned nothing"

I think this a good point. Brits have a very dry sense of humor and they also consider that 'jokes about pedos sort of makes you a pedo' a very strange and false equivalence.
But it is dangerous territory. I have just been watching Sacha Baron Cohen's 'who is America?' and I laughed so much it bought tears to my eyes. Others, however, think he should be thrown out of the US and are threatening to cancel their Showtime subscription.
So I also feel that Disney is perfectly entitled to sack Gunn if he is damaging their brand. Take Ricky Gervais - who used to insult the audience at the Emmies - even he would say 'well if they find it offensive, they wont invite me back, will they?'

    A: “a leisure centre”.
    Is that “funny”? Presumably subjective.
Is that “comedy”? In the context, objectively yes.
Substitute “small boy” for “sheep” and eyebrows will (should) be raised. Different observers will raise eyebrows by different degrees.
    So what?

I think its all a conspiracy, as Gardians of the Galaxy 2 was soooo shit & really not funny at all, Disney saw the script for No.3 & just found an excuse to get rid of him, in order to save the 3rd film from turning out to be an absolute turd.
Disney knew exactly who James Gunn was when they hired him - this is the guy who made "Slither" (big phallic penis invasion horror film), a TV series called "PG Porn" (yes you read that right!) & "Movie 43" to name a few. When you hire someone nowadays, the HR department does their due diligence and their first stop is Facebook & Twitter, without exception. I know people who simply haven't hired people for what they've written on Social Media, regardless of whether their posts have been jokes or not - "Hate going to work on Monday mornings or any morning for that matter", "Think I'm going to pull a sickie today", "My boss is a C**T" etc. And that's just for work related things.
So, now do you really think or believe Disney didn't know about these tweets a long time ago? Of course they did & they played their trump card (yeah!!!) now to get rid of him for whatever their real reason/s where.
As far as jokes about peadophilie tendencies are concerned, just not my thing....

IronFilm got a reaction from PannySVHS in Is a Sony FS700 still worth buying in late 2018??
The problem is if we just wave our hands and say "but it creates great images" then we could say the same about a BMPCC or even a GH2.  Where does it end? Thus I try to be objective as well and look at their features/specs/value.

Of course the C300 can still make nice images! And if a person handed one to me and told me to shoot with it then I'd happily do that. And heck, I'd even buy one if offered at the right price. (probably a sub US$1K price?)

However at the current prices the C300mk1
has zero appeal to me, would I want *one* C300mk1 vs two FS700? Easy choice!

Better than internal FS700?? Of course!
But better than external 4K raw? Nope!

Not as extensive HFR as the FS700

Exactly. The C500 body is more expensive and the whole set up with a recorder is more expensive as Atomos isn't as viable an option.

If the total cost of ownership of a C500 with 4K was the same as a FS700 with 4K then I might maybe be able to overlook the negatives of the C500 and choose it over the FS700. However at the moment there is a massive price gulf in the difference between a C500 and a FS700 when you sum it up.

Would probably go for a FS7 or F5 instead for only an extra grand ish more in total than a complete C500 4K package.

I meant in terms of audible noise.

You just can't record great usable sound with the C500 in 4K after a certain point in time.

However there are DIY hack work arounds, but it still is a strike against the C500.

    Exactly.
Are we talking AUD or USD?
As if AUD that is less than 2x Pocket 4K cameras
Plus add in external NDs, that will spread out the gap further. (ignoring the whole hassle factor.... plenty of reasons to prefer the camcorder/cinema form factor vs a DSLR/mirrorless/pocket approach)

When you put something out there, its out there. You can never take it back and the wrong thing can destroy your life, reputation and carreer.
As for Gunn, I a haven't read them all. The ones I have read do appear to be jokes as he has said. I can see how many would find them offensive but the thing is these tweets as far as I know were from many years ago. People do change and it sucks that fact is not even a consideration, I am sure just about everyone here has done ore said something that could be used against them. I also don't know the context for these tweets, I believe they were from a time when he was not well known at all so these could have been tweets for his friends were he was intentially pushing the limits.
