A minor segway for people who wonder why the hell anyone would shoot on nikon still: I was editing stuff from my last shoot yesterday. Interior shot exposed for the exterior sky (so there was just a tiny bit of data in the blue channel).  Flat profile on nikon d5500, as flat as possible on the gx85.  Blue skies recoverable from both shots, interior on the gx85 absolutely unrecoverable, no problems on the d5500 (and if only they had a decent codec it could be pushed much further).  I dont know how the gh5 and log will compare, but the *usable* dynamic range on the nikons is still better than I've seen in this segment.  
I love my nikon gear, I also want them to be around in 10 years time :/

I wished. But getting tired of changing system and this mk2 will come in 2-4y. Wish I could stay with one brand and be done with it a few years. Latest rumors say no IBIS on A7SIII. It is starting to become a joke. We will have S1 with no video AF, A7S with no IBIS and rest of the world with no 4K60p. A joke that nobody wants to combine 4K60p FF with ibis with good AF...

I want a Nikon Z6 with a firmware update to deliver 4k 60fps and 10bit N-log internally.

I'd love to see a under/over dynamic range test for the XT3.

a) I used to manually edit video rather than telling the editor ai roughly what I wanted".  Or
b) we used to have this thing called "video", it was like VR only flatter...

And nikon did a sony...  (but sony, those clever sausages, stagger the release of A7r/ A7 to minimise the likelihood of canibalising their own sales).  The same reason i suspect that nikon is keeping shtum about the z6. They dont want people to wait for the cheaper camera, they want to canibalise sony's sales, not their own)  The downside there is Panasonic S.  I was planning on waiting for the z6, but if I have to wait another 3 months for a hybrid camera with beefier video specs (assuming it's stills specs are on a par with my current 5-year old DSLR), then I'll have some thinking to do  )
 
Leica has cachet in the stills world. Panasonic has tiny mind-share. Say "panasonic" and people still most likely think radios and air conditioners.  This camera is taking on the big boys of stills. Therefore Having a leica mount makes the marketing folk very happy.  
Even if technically it's not the best move (which I dont think is true), in every other way it's a no-brainer. 

That must be Leica's contribution to the joint venture....

You cant win here; then Andrew will be accused of trump-like behaviour, or having "lost". Maybe append a version of your post above to the end of it: or better use it as a starting point to reflect on when the personal and the passionate goes public. Sometimes you've got to externalise that shit, I can relate to that. 

they'are not brilliantly shot, i've not seen aliasing, but I've only been watching on my laptop.
the point about the zeds to me is that they are finally up there with the sonys, but they are nikons.  I stuck with nikon because for what I do they were the best fit for stills. I went nikon d5300 then gh5 for vid. I thought about switching to sony, but losing AF, or ditching my glass did not appeal.  Being able to shoot something similar to sony quality vid, and keep my glass makes it a no-brainer. I'm sure there will be aspects that piss me off, but I'm also sure it'll piss me off less than not having AF,  (or having to buy into yet another line of lenses).   For a lot of jobbing pros who shoot stills and vid, speed and the "good enough" factor are important.  I dont like it, but I learnt it the hard way: I always strive for better quality but in the last 2 years I jumped from low bitrate 1080 to 4K, with much more tortuous grading, without increasing my prices.  And the pressure to race to the bottom is huge.  In 10 years you might have AI shooting and editing the vids. They'll be crap, but they'll be way cheaper than me.
yes agree the xt3 looks very nice. I've not seen an blackmagic footage that's been pushed around yet though. Want to see how the noisy those shadows are

Yeah but about the Only good thing about getting old is you can say shit and it doesn't matter. They either think you are crazy, or have Alzheimer's. Or if they think neither , who gives a shit. Fun times at times. So you have something down the road to look forward to. Ergo, it will get easier. ?

My unsolicited advice: Delete the anti BM article - it doesn't reflect your intellect but, as you say above, it's the result of a perfect emotional storm.
I'd offer JB an olive branch privately - he's a good man and a valuable voice for any creative community.
A lot of your members look up to you and it's a good opportunity to show them the value of thoughtfulness.

I am certainly not bigger than a camera company, or more important than Blackmagic and I think people may have seen the hysterics as a bit silly.
I accept that yes, possibly I have shot myself in the foot.
Having said that, EOSHD is bigger than me as well and is a real community. I was standing up for the community and not just for myself.
This was a perfect storm for me. A combination of several factors which caused me to get upset enough to write that article...
First the Canon EOS R launch and the new levels of invasive of PR offensive we are seeing from the camera companies to quell dissent and turn even Caleb Pike into a "it's not perfect but WOW what a great camera" kind of guy. Rather than the person he should be, a "1.8x crop sucks" kind of reviewer.
Secondly the overwhelming feeling of shithead sycophants climbing above my site, in the VIP lane, completely undeservedly.
Thirdly the geographical positioning of the Blackmagic event, it being on my doorstep.
Next the fact Cinema5D were paid to fly in. I could have walked in.
Finally, the John Brawley factor on here and the lack of support from most of my own readers, honestly all this is enough to give someone a nervous breakdown.
It's hard to really get across how I feel, because it is a weird situation and I think the internet is a bit weird as well. In real life, people don't say the things I say or say the things to me that I have had to put up with. People need to calm down, myself included.
It's only a camera.
But I do feel the future of camera and tech journalism is at stake. In fact it may already be absolutely dead. And the most depressing thing of all is that the reader is fine, unawares, and on the most part notices no issue.

To be fair, its only parts of the past 10 pages or so that have been rough going, the previous 190 odd were mainly positive.

I've not seen much of the handmaids tale, but there was one scene where the handmaids tear a convicted rapist to shreds, venting their pent up rage in the only way they're allowed.  I dont think the behavior on photo forums is isolated and I cant help wondering if this is a shift in the way people interact generally, and if part of the cause is the lack of perceived power; of frustration at being screwed from all sides.  The milk of human kindness seems in short supply generally, and not just in forums. (this isn't aimed at Andrew its just the dynamic that seems to be around).
I have frequently wanted to yell at various people and institutions to shove various things in various orifices.  And occasionally do, but you have to be certain you aint never gonna need to speak to the person or company again, lol. 
The weird thing about this to me is that the footage i've seen has not been that good.   It all seemed a bit thrown together,  not the pinnacle of some marketing strategy, but what do I know?  I'm just a jobbing video hack, but i think I would've done a better job with half a day with one of those cams.  

one more thing andrew! Don't forget that all PR execs have an eye on who will spruik their camera regardless of its faults or failings.  I had a mate that used to get invited to weekend freebies by a major manufacturer because he wrote for a national photo mag. Were his reviews 100% impartial? 100% no. How could they be. He's only human. You get schmoozed and fed and watered, are you going to turn round and say their gizmo is a pile of shite?  And then lose advertising revenue and potential for future invites? That's why I think we appreciate this site and the few like it - because you can be totally sure that there's none of that malarky.  And I'm afraid that if we know that, that BM and Panasonic and all do too.  Which means that if you do get invited to a press junket it'll be because whoever invited you is 100% sure you're going to be bedazalled .

When I first read EOSHD I had no idea what people were talking about. People going on about this 4:2:2 and other confusing stuff. 
It’s a more animated forum than elsewhere. It’s more diverse. More honest. Everyone seems happy to help. 

I must admit I was kind of shocked to read Andrew’s latest blog entry and it’s conclusion.. especially only days after decrying said press junkets and praising JB. But I understand this must have hit too close from home and to add insult to injury I’m sure BMD (a smaller word of mouth company) has sold a shit ton of cameras thanks to this site and could have made the effort to reach out. JB's reply visibly felt like a stab in the back. I think both parties are blowing this out of proportion.
I do find it disheartening to see such feud amongst a host and one of it’s most popular contributors and sincerely hope they can work things out.
In any case, I value this site and I’m sure right now is a tense time to manage and review gear ahead of what is announcing itself like an explosive photokina edition and hence would like to show my support to Mr.Reid, even if I don't always share his views. This is his planet.
The guy has done a pretty amazing job with this site imo and deserves to be cut a little slack, wether you agree or not with his latest article and/or handling of the situation.
We're all human beings and have our good/bad days. Let's not jump to any hurtful conslusions.
I do feel an overall tense vibe here and beyond lately. Surely the recent announcements by all the big players has had a dramatic & divisive effect on the photo/video community.
We should all relax a bit over the current state of gear announcements, our excitement/ disappointments, frustrations,  etc.. in the end we all share a common passion and this is all beneficial to us as consumers. So many options out there and at unprecedented price levels. What a time to be alive!

I can see some of that lovely Nikon look in there. You have to underexposed it, th en you get that fat look like reversal film. Love it.

finally found some z6 footage. Only looked on my laptop so far. It doesn't have a lot of magic, (in fact the 1080 looked nicer to me than the 4K), but it doesn't have anything that screams terrible.  I always found the d5300 vid looked miles better underexposed a bit. Curious about shadow noise
