From rumors on new features it could be even a FW optimization only.
Yet to understand why they opted for a new GP release. But I also know that everyone is now a slave to this hellish rush to a new action cam every year.

I shot a low-budget feature in the summer of 2006, I believe we were among the first to use the Andromeda DVX mod. It was... burdensome... though the footage looked great... at times. Our issue was we also used a Redrock Micro spinning ground glass adapter, and that device added at times too much "grain" and was a nightmare keeping focused/backfocused.
I would complain about being tethered to a laptop (and the firewire connection did occasionally drop) but many of the most high-end digital systems at that time also had huge "digital mags" or needed to be tethered to a recording deck... I would hate using this camera today but at the time it felt revolutionary.

The way to choose the best camera for you is to look at what absolutely sucks about each camera (every camera sucks in several major ways) then pick the one that would hurt you the least.
Film-making equipment involves a huge amount of compromise, at every level, even regardless of budget (although that definitely sucks for most cameras!).

Just to get back on topic...
The trend isn't limited to photo, video or filmmaking forums, it's all forums...
A friend recently reminisced how he used to talk to fans of his favourite band online all the time and do meet-ups.
The band's unofficial forum was a hub for this, but now it doesn't even exist.
It is just people on a Facebook group now, posting pics and pressing like.
This is due to smartphones and the fact they lack a proper keyboard for longer form content and interactions.
Plus a few social media apps have replaced .com websites.
Hope to see a reversal of it as this is not using the internet to its true potential.
People should put the phone down and get back online via a laptop or desktop machine instead!

So white ZV-E1 last 50% more recording time than black ZV-E1 under the sun, that's good to know! Well I feel I made the right choice for white coloour (beside looking fancy haha)
And I didnt knew it have firmware last month to improve SteadyShot.

Prompted by a tweet from @Andrew Reid about BBC drama production in the 70s/80s, I remembered this gem of a YouTube channel where the production staff of the era discuss and reproduce their work.
The videos are a combination of bitesize and longer form and covers every stage of the production process such as these.

It is a fascinating collection of pieces and much can be learned and applied to shooting and editing today.
Not least of which how lucky we are to have what we have at our disposal.

12 bit log has a similar amount of info as 14 bit linear raw. But yeah the image definitely looks very nice regardless.

Footage looks clean and with great colours, but not the best example of dynamic range considering the shadows/ blacks. But that could be how it was shot/ graded.

Although the grade is always important, NRAW's rich tonality is once again evident in this beach footage, which has been interpreted in linear color space as opposed to N-Log gamma (where DR could be better preserved). Despite the varying workflow, the expansive tonal range is consistent with Nikon's own Venice clip as posted above.

Emanuel reacted to Kino in Z9 on test - N-RAW no better than H.265?
The Z9 test shows 12.5 usable from a possible 15.5 overall on an 8K timeline. That is not bad at all. NR can add only about half a stop. Compare that with the R5C in 8K RAW, which shows only 11 usable from a possible 13.4:

If you scale 8K down to 4K, you can improve the Imatest result for both 8K cameras, so you have to keep that in mind when comparing with lower resolutions. For example, the 4K C70 with its DGO sensor attains 13 usable from a total 15.3 with NR applied in-camera:

In terms of DR, Dxomark measured the Z9 RAW photo performance at 14.4 EV at its base 64 ISO and just over 12 EV at ISO 800, which is the native ISO for video:

https://www.dxomark.com/nikon-z9-sensor-test/#:~:text=As for the individual scores,at the same ISO sensitivity.
All that is very consistent with the Imatest DR above and very similar to other 8K cameras at the same ISO. What interests me more is the color depth comparison between photo and video, which is the only way to test whether the color information is retained in the 14 bit NEV files.

Emanuel reacted to Ilkka Nissila in New Nikon Camera coming…Z8?
I have had the Z8 since late May and have not experienced any heat-related warnings or other signs of overheating. I live in Finland so our weather is not like Florida but we've had 28 C days. When shooting video, I have used mostly Prores 422 HQ in 4K/25, 4K/50 or 1080p/50 but also tested 4K/120 h.265 and they all worked fine in and out of doors. The most I shot on a day was about 200 GB of video onto CFexpress type B (325 GB ProGrade Digital Cobalt). I've also used Sony 128 GB CFexpress and those didn't overheat in the time required to fill up the card in 4K/25 Prores 422 HQ but the card was very warm to the touch afterwards.

Tests published on youtube by Ricci Chera (who works for Nikon School UK, so keep that in mind), Gerald Undone and others generally found that the Z8 can overheat in the most data-intensive video modes in about 30 min if using memory cards that tend to run hot, but using the right cards (Delkin Black is reported to run the coolest, Prograde Digital Cobalt is also good), the camera typically runs out of battery (2 hours on one charge of the EN-EL15c) before overheating, according to those reports. Both Delkin Black and Prograde Cobalt cards are sometimes significantly discounted at B&H, so if getting a Z8, one may want to look out for those deals. My own experience confirms that the Prograde Cobalt seems to run less hot than the Sony and I'm happy with the purchase although these cards aren't exactly cheap. For longer recording times I would likely go with Delkin Power as those are available in larger capacities.

I love the Prores 422 HQ; such amazing detail and color. I have no experience shooting 8K.

Have no idea and I wager most owners don't either, lol - just get an FX-Lion Nano One (or Nano Two) or the Smallrig VB50 or VB99.
But this guy does great analysis of the R5C and says Canon has not given any official details about the exact requirements (he discusses all this in the second chapter of this video) - so basically it seems like we just know what works and what doesn't:

Thanks although some of those solutions don't seem available any longer (anker 45w power bank).
Again what are the exact 8K60p power requirements? I know we've discussed this earlier in the thread but I don't feel like going through +35 pages lol.
As for the Z8, it is great that it can power 8K60p from its internal battery but yeah I've seen some 8K tests getting the camera to overheat in 10mn which is a concern. Other test show 25mn. I think the Z9 doesn't overheat and with second hand prices being around what a Z8 costs I think Z9 might be actually be a better choice if you don't mind the weight too much.

I have never got on with any ‘action’ camera I have had and I’ve had 1x GoPro and 2x DJI Action.
I have always fancied something like this though… https://www.back-bone.ca/product/h11pro/
I think we sometimes poo poo or overlook some of the smaller point and shoot and phone cameras dismissing them as not being ‘pro’ enough whether we are in fact pros or not.
(Pro IMO is how you act and whether you earn an income from it regardless of the tools which are just that, tools).
The main reason I think I have never got on with ‘action’ cameras is I don’t really use wider FOV’s but shoot mainly within 50-100mm but one of my favourite filming experiences to date was with the Sony RX100v. Except it overheated too much for my use…
