  1. Like cooking, need to bake the footage ; ) Like love, a plant needs lot of care. Like life, stomach won't fill up with water nor alcohol all the time. Neither love. Filmmaking is not love making but certain rules apply ;-) Sorry for so strikingly technical reply... :-))
  2. You know Simo, as someone said, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts... ; ) Saluti e Buon Anno, E :-)
  3. Sure, I concur. I just don't think the opposite is not possible to coexist as much as a few people want the proof of it à la Saint Thomas. But, if faith can be subjective, 'the big concept' cinematic goes beyond because can be quantifiable by numbers. The evaluation of them is its subjective part. “The opposite of a great truth is also true.” ~ Niels Bohr
  4. Right, so how isn't the motion cadence quantifiable?! First off, frame rate is quantifiable. Even a certain-chosen-one such as 24 frames per second is -- there's no one 24fps, 'several 24fps' apply. That is, let it alone when other variables pop up. Cinematic outcome is a match of it.
  5. As much as the Aristotle maxim 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts', a non-quantifiable premise doesn't necessarily rule out the gateway to quantify it. See above-posted. 24 frames are not the same as HFR. E :-)
  6. " To re-invent cinema " doesn't necessarily mean to ignore the past as a bygone aesthetic. Take Europa (Zentropa in US) by Lars von Trier for example. E :-)
  7. Accurate motion at 24 frames versus a more fluid, quantifiable number of frames such as 30, 48, 60 or even higher per second (do not confound with overcranking, obviously). Follow the new TV displays to interpolate frames or fields and mimic the infamous soap opera effect, you can take a look on the practical meaning of that.
  8. Latitude to begin with, for pixel peepers we all are. But, also resolution in the past old days, motion, progressive versus interlaced was determinant to arrive where digital has placed the motion pictures to pair with a cinematic feeling marked for over more than a century of 35mm format experience. When there is the absence of artifacts, of course. Even though, rolling shutter, as for instance, can be acceptable within certain limits. Color sampling for vivid imaging, DOF (not necessarily shallow DOF all the time), framing where perspective, composition and accurate movement of camera are mandatory for creating the idea of POV as primary aesthetic requirement of filmmaking. Last but not least, production design for sure. In two words, it means space and time. Reason why when we talk about motion, slow motion is much appreciated by the film audiences comprehending an effective way of going towards the suspension of disbelief. E :-)

  10. Disclaimer: Not necessarily by chronological order, merit or even actual camera models or new gear/technique(s) related, different setups too; only for fun, useful information and good education (yeah, you read it) from others' testing. Apples to Oranges -- if so, is discretionary, as well, inconclusive, controversial results, so are also welcome here. New posts to follow. Enjoy them as much as possible! Hope it helps and fits your search when may happen :-)
  11. More than this or that upgraded camera feature, the proof is in the pudding... Maybe that's just me but, these last two shots in the next clip, as for instance, justify a purchase, even from a GH5 early adopter... I see these little Sony a6300/a6500 as another ballpark, even to each its own though -- cameras are like women, there's no other, there's no the same.
  12. Got it and second it. Nevertheless, take a look on this one here ; )
  13. I'd sincerely appreciate to see GH5 (have pre-ordered two units) ISO performance & those low light samples into the a6500 camp...
  14. Good cameras never become outdated... ;-)
  15. Lovely camera hard to beat if ever : ) Fujifilm (maker) really rules. PS -- Funny note: test to watch it @480p (or even @360p) and compare with other camera samples at same resolution... :X Cinematic outcome is an ultimate combo this brand shows to know.
  16. I just don't see ergonomics as a major technical one. It depends on the user. But from user to user, other technical aspects play a much more relevant role, not even close I'd say.
  17. I am not against ergonomics in general at all! (don't wanna be a fool... LOL : ) I am just criticizing the weight some people give to the topic here or in any other cameras forum. There are much other aspects to consider when we choose a camera IMHO. Aside the fact, this issue can also stand in a subjective approach, as Mattias pointed out. It hasn't impacted the task to not buy a camera IMO. I differently agree that buying/using a camera for form factor is a whole other matter, though. Two different perspectives. C100/300 are indeed a fine example. Samsung owners praise their devices as we all know here, too. Nothing against on their/your/our likings on the subject matter.
  18. Our job?? It depends on the job you have in the filmmaking business, at least. Come from shooting on 35mm film, pointedly before digital, and you'll never complain against the ergonomics of any of these little cameras. To me, all this talk is nonsense. Sorry me, but seems so odd all this babble on ergonomics... Without mention the whole set of accessories to customize (y)our camera as you wish. Maybe a cup of "our favorite chocolate" might come in-camera but such evil manufacturers have decided to put it outside there... ;-)
  19. This ergonomics argument as a 'must mantra' is pure BS, IMHO. Seems to my eyes the same excuse people are used to pop up when a new camera is launched for explaining their filmmaking inertia : ) Who is unable to set up and give to the world any piece of work with and from a G7 or a6300, as for instance, is unable to shoot with any other capture device. It won't matter 4:2:2 whatever the number of bits you have, nor form factor, for sure. No other acquisition tool will save the unfortunate shooter. Neither RED or Alexa. E :-)
  20. Many "scientists" in disguise :-D We are all artists after all, isn't it? Power on them, democratization follows. 10-bit 4:2:2 on budget... Comes to my mind when ML hack popped up.
