Cancer has literally taken away everyone I have ever loved the most. First it took my Grammy, then it took my Papa, then it took my Mom, and earlier this year it took one of my pups. To say that I hate it with all of my heart would be an understatement.
Hearing how many people talk about how it has impacted them breaks my heart. I hope I'm alive to see the day when we finally beat this disease. It won't bring our loved ones back, but if it'll make sure no one has to feel how the way I did holding my Mom's hands as she slowly

I'm a big user of insta360 cameras, I have 2 of them, mostly to film myself and sometimes I use for projects too.... looking and some side by side the 1inch is definitely a step forward.

I do agree that 8k would be the bar minimum.... I think the industry stays away from 8k as stitching 8k video would probably only be possible on top-of-the-line phones and PCs.... and the market that they target it is mostly consumers. Same for requiring higher speed microSD

8k, 400 Mbits, 10 bit LOG would be the quantum leap that is needed to have 360 cameras used more professionally

To all my friends at EOSHD I have some very sad news.
My sister has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
    She is just 38.
I have just brought the news to the main blog page here, for the full story:
    https://www.eoshd.com/news/my-sister-zara-reid-is-in-end-of-life-care-for-cancer/
I might need to rely on my friends here to get me through this very difficult time and keep working.
Anyone who pre-orders my Panasonic GH6 Shooter's Guide will really be helping. I am in financial difficulties too, on top of this.
I want to keep this blog going even though I am a wreak at the moment.
I am going to miss my sister enormously. She was at the heart of my family.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to pass a message of support onto myself, Zara or my mum.
    My email address is eoshd.com@gmail.com
In the future my aim is to get back to work and carry on EOSHD. Sorry it has been so quiet of late.
    Thanks guys.

ntblowz reacted to BTM_Pix in Former Atomos CEO Alleges ‘Rampant Illegality’ At The Company
In May 2022, just over six months after her appointment as CEO, Estelle McGechie was fired from Atomos due to her being unwilling to re-locate to Australia.
At the time, it seemed a bit odd because you would have thought that her appointment to that senior role would have been contingent on her re-location from the get go.
According to a suit that she has now filed in the US, she claims that there was more to it than her relocation.
    A lot more.
In addition to her claims about gender discrimination and a toxic corporate culture at Atomos, there are also allegations that there was 'rampant illegality' at the company with regards to shipping out 'dud' products to fraudulently inflate sales figures to meet projected targets.
One example product mentioned in her filing is the CAST switcher add on for the Ninja V range which was shipped without any functioning firmware.

The other product mentioned is the Neon grading monitor which shipped with know deficiencies that rendered it outside of the capabilities detailed in its marketing literature and packaging.

The CAST product interests me because I've been surprised that for something that is such an appealing product (turns your Ninja V into an ATEM) there has been very little buzz about it since it was launched and comparatively few reviews on YouTube and certainly none from the past few month.
Possibly now not as surprising as I'd originally felt.
The share price of Atomos in the past twelve months certainly wouldn't have been bringing a nice warm glow to investors anyway, but this latest news has knocked it further.

Needless to say, Atomos have refuted all of Estelle McGechie's allegations so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I got the Canon VND but changed the filter to breakthrough X4 VND for best VND on the market.
We also got the Canon speedbooster for C70 but once we migrate to all RF lens (24-70 2.8, 28-70 F2, 15-35 f2.8, 70-200 F2.8 etc) it kinda becomes irrevalent.. except just for the EF 35mm F2 IS which we still have pairs well with C70.
We just dont buy third party for best compatibility issue, I have a friend who have Sigma 24-105mm Art but it locks his C70 up from time to time.. once he changed to Canon no more lockup.

Next upgrade will be looking at V-Raptors and Komodo combo.. at least our RF lens still works.

This is not correct as RED V-Raptor has a fixed RF mount and you need adapters for the other mount. The RED V-Raptor XL has a swappable PL mount where you can buy the EF mount.

So from the latest 3 models that RED sells two are native RF.

ntblowz reacted to jpleong in Fuji X-H2S
I mostly lurk here but I got the X-H2S about a month ago. Because I got it together with the Tascam XLR adapter, my order was delayed significantly so I missed the chance to use it on most of the gigs I had lined-up originally.

The one time I've used it for video, it was the Wide of a three-camera interview setup (with R5Cs as the CUs) feeding an ATEM Mini ISO. Lens was the XF 23mm f/2 (set to f/4) with AF-C / Face Detect-on. The R5Cs were set to 4K/S35 mode and one had an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II (set to f/4) while the other had an RF 24-105mm f/4.
    The Good:
Color: The X-H2S was set to Astia and the R5Cs were set to EOS Standard Profile and their footage was relatively interchangeable (this I already knew from my previous experience mixing Canon and Fujifilm cameras).
Video autofocus: The X-H2S autofocus is significantly better than my previous X-T3 -I didn't notice any focus hunting during the multi-hour shoot which is something I can't say for my previous X-series bodies in similar setups.
Keeps going: It records for longer than 29.99 minutes! That's all I want in my hybrid cameras since my main moneymaker is long form documentary.
Formats: ProRes! h.265! h.264! I've always appreciated the level of control Fujifilm gives the operator over file output. Anyone who's used a BMPCC will know the frustration of being format-limited by resolution and vice-versa.
CF-Express -as much as I hate that I'm back to cameras that have non-matched dual card slots, at least they're the same type as what I use in my R5Cs. And GB for GB, CF-Express is cheaper than SDXC UHS-II. But holy hell do they get hot.
    The Bad:
The button and dial layout is significantly different from my other X-series cameras and it drives me nuts. One of the main reasons I skipped the X-T4 was specifically because they altered the layout and this has the same problem. I can re-map some of the functionality to standardize with my other X-series bodies but there are wholly deleted buttons and switches (the drive-mode and exposure-mode are two glaring examples) that is going to force me to change mindset whenever using the X-H2S with another of my X-series cameras. I might have to sell all my older bodies and just get another X-H2S (or the 40MP model) so that I don't get annoyed.
The fan works and I'm glad I have it. The problem is, as I type this... I can't remember where I put it. It can only be attached when you're using the camera, as it prevents the screen from closing/cannot remain attached permanently. It also has two sets of rubber covers that are easily lost if you're frequently attaching/detaching it. It's a very dumb implementation and is probably going to get lost and re-purchased. I wish they had just gone the route that Canon did and elegantly integrated into the body.
No anamorphic view. I have three Sirui anamorphics for XF-mount and I still have to use my Atomos Ninja Inferno.
No Waveform - I come from a "traditional" video production background so I was so excited to get these back into my workflow on my R5Cs when I don't want to attach a larger monitor. At least the Zebras on the X-H2S are still well implemented...
HDMI frame stuttering -this is something that happens on my X-T3 frequently, and I haven't had a chance to really figure out why it happens (is it thermal? is it a framerate mismatch? etc...). I noticed it happening to the feed coming from X-H2S but, again, I've only used it once so I can't rule out user error here, either.

    The Jury is still out:
Photos: My other money maker is photography. One of my main clients is a symphony and so I'm constantly shooting in fast-moving, high contrast scenarios using electronic shutter. The X-series cameras I own (T2, H1, T3) have been as-good-as the R5C in all aspects except resolution, autofocus and extreme high-ISO. Previously, choosing a body has been a trade-off between auto-focus performance vs rolling shutter artifacts. I'm hoping that the X-H2S solves both those issues but I know there's a shadow recovery penalty with the new stacked sensor. The new season starts in about a month so only time will tell if it's actually going to be problematic.

Video autofocus: I haven't had a real-world opportunity to test the X-H2S's video autofocus against the R5C's. Hopefully, it'll be as good as the R5C -which is a low standard :-). Honestly, I was surprised by how inferior the Canon cinema implementation of DPAF is compared to the non-cinema version. Tracking moves I could do with robotic automation on the 70D/80D/5D4 I wasn't able to do with the R5C. It's made food documentary and product video capture more... annoying than it should be.
    Conclusion:
I'm still stuck in the value-conscious mindset I was in a few years ago -when it would definitely have been an either/or situation- so, I'm kind of torn on whether I wasted $3000 USD on the X-H2S or $5000 USD on the R5C. If only one or the other existed, I'd probably be happy but since they both exist and they both have respective strengths and weaknesses... it's weirdly still a toss-up. I am happy that I have enough work to justify owning both.

After re-reading what I wrote above (and how non-committal I still am), I will say this: the X-H2S is what I wished the BMPCC 6K Pro would have been. It is definitely more expensive when kitted-out equivalently but it does almost everything better.
If $5000 USD is within your budget and rolling-shutter isn't a big deal, the Canon R5C is the better tool versus the X-H2.
But at $3000 USD (base+TASCAM audio unit) the X-H2S is the only hybrid camera that does all the things it does, and does them well.

    Can people read?

Absolutely not true, some zooms are better than primes as posted above the EF 24-70 and EF 70-200 are optically better than EF 50 1.2, 85 1.2 and on pair with 135 2.0. The EF 24-70 2-8 II at 24 2.8 is much better than the EF 24 1.4 II at 2.8. I have/had all these lenses. All expensive L lenses.

The new affordable RF 15-30 seems a tad better in the corner that the RF 16 2.8 (here we go again with a zoom better than a prime) and both better than the old 16-35 II L. Also, most of the EF L wide angle zooms are better than the EF 14 2.8 L v1.

Now in case of the proclaimed by people that never have used one, no improved RF lenses, the RF 50 1.2, RF 85 1.2 are better optically than the RF 70-200 and RF 24-70.

But yes I lost all my credibility by really comparing zooms with primes instead of trusting you guys with the super generalized statement: primes always better optically than zooms and RF are no improvements over EF.

I'm really sorry that I'm so dumb not trusting your claims but lose time in testing things out.........

Do me a favor test one of the above examples you may learn something new.

I have one button to cycle through the AF frame, one to enable / disable face tracking, one to pause AF while pressing, and one as suggested above to toggle AF on/off.

One thing that I find super useful is peaking with AF..... on the R5 peaking does not work while in AF but on the R5c it works and I find a realy life saver as even is super bright sun or strange angle on the LCD I can always monitor if the AF is spot on or not.

One can absolutely live with EF lenses plus adapter as they most all work better on the R cameras than on the DSLR, so no rush to move to RF.

But I do not agree that RF ones are not much better than the EF versions actually it is the opposite other than price(for the L series) they are mostly all a big improvement:

RF 70-200 2.8, much more compact and quite a bit lighter than the EF version. Only downside is no TC support.
RF 70-200 4, incredibly compact and light weight compared to the EF.
RF 100-500, lighter, sharper, longer than the EF 100-400, only downside with TC it starts at 500mm
RF 24-70 2.8 IS, has IS and a tad lighter weight than the non IS EF version
RF 15-35 2.8, wider, sharper and has IS compared to 16-35 2.8 III EF. Not even a fair comparison.
RF 85 2 IS, sharper and with IS compared to the old (imo junk) 85 1.8
RF 50 1.8, a tad sharper than the EF version
RF 50 1.2, much bigger and heavier but just in another league from the old EF 50 1.2.
RF 85 1.2, much bigger and heavier but just in another league from the old EF 85 1.2.

Unique and no equivalent from Canon in EF mount:
RF 16 2.8, affordable, very compact and quite sharp
RF 35 1.8 IS, affordable, very compact super sharp, but noisy AF
RF 24 1.8 IS, too early to tell
RF 28-70 2, heavy and big but very sharp and unique, challenging for video due to the 95mm filter size
RF 600 and 800 F11, very affordable long tele with quite good image quality
RF 24-240, surprisingly good image quality for such zoom range
RF 100-400, affordable and very light weight long zoom with an ok image quality

    A let down:
RF 400 2.8, no included TC as Nikon now does, just the EF version with glued on R-EF adapter
RF 600 4, no included TC, just the EF version with glued on R-EF adapter
RF 800 5.6, no included TC, sharpness so similar to the RF 400 + 2x with an insane price, it makes no sense
RF 1200 8, no included TC, sharpness so similar to the RF 600 + 2x with an insane price, it makes no sense

As R5 user I m disagree on that! R5 Have better photo quality, oversampled 4k60p option (non on r7) and 4k120p which have way better quality than 1080p120.  Rolling shutter is also less too.  Overheating is a history with v1.6 firmware.
But that time limit is a bummer for long session recording options.

ntblowz reacted to Kisaha in Canon EOS R7 and R10 have released...
    Ok, I got it now!
They were only a couple left in Canon Greece (I doubt they will be more on shops as I searched on the usual suspects in the local market and they were none on stock), and it seems that it is discontinued, or something. I am sure Canon has a different priorities right now, than to spend valuable resources on such a specialized item.
Well, the thing really works, it is a bit expensive at 159€ (don't remember the original price), it is very small and light, it does the obvious thing, power zooming, different speeds to the touch (depending the pressure you apply), 2 main speeds to start off (Slow/Fast) and that's it.. (Manual/Power zooming switch also).
One additional plus is that I can hold the combo (camera/lens) a lot better now, it offers a base for my left arm and everything has improved. I am quite happy about this unexpected benefit, as it matches my holding style perfectly.
The 18-135 nano is a bit front heavy (plus the adapter, that extends the center of weight of the lens further from the camera body) and I wasn't 100% happy with it. One of the reasons I do not like to use adapters in generala; But as I consider the RF-S 18-150mm I downgrade, from the ultra fast focusing EF-S lens, plus the ability to use vND adapters (and have a usable and dead cheap run n gun kit) made me keep the EF-S lens instead of the RF. Plus I have the PZ-E1 thingy now!
The sound of the motor is not that prominent, but it is definitely audible from microphones on the camera (even external ones, but on the camera). The slower it goes, the more silent it is, and I guess it won't be an issue on a busy market in Bangkok, but obviously there is a little motor in there, there is no question about it!
All in all, not a life-changing experience, but a nice thingy to have for the purposes I mentioned above, also, I can imitate various genres fast zoom-ins now, without any guilt!

I owned the R7 for about two months and used it with my C70. Was a nice b roll camera but on a gimbal in the 7k to 4k downres the rolling shutter was too much for me. Looked like jello everywhere. Also, the footage didn't have that wow factor I've gotten used to with the C70. It was a joy to use, but not worth keeping in my opinion. Honestly, I am hoping for a proper C200 upgrade with the DGO sensor in it... prefer that more traditional Canon cine body and miss not having an EVF. May just shoot all my YouTube videos on C70's from now on though. They do look truly great when exposed properly in Clog 2
