The body only is down to as little as £750 open box mint used.

Down from the RRP of a few months ago £1600.

One can only assume they are having massive problems shifting them.

Which is a pity because the S9 is a fun little beast.

The discounts don't seem to have come to the US, at least not yet.  Used bodies are still about $1,200 here and new is still about $1,400 body-only.

I don't see the S9 discounts in Spain but the new S1ii packs are out:

3.850,52 € for the S1ii and the 24-60 2.8. That looks a reasonable offer.

The first stage of large S9 price drops in the UK started in February - I bought an S9 as soon as it happened, as I'd been interested in getting one for a while. In my case it was a red S9 + 18-40mm kit for around £1100 in 'like new' condition. With further price drops about a month ago that kit is now about £1200 new.

I quite like it - nice solid-feeling body, decent battery life and with the 18-40mm a fairly compact kit (for a full-frame camera). Not quite a modern GX80, but close enough for most of my use cases.

My main criticism is probably that, for a camera presumably aimed at new/inexperienced users, there's too much of the higher-end video stuff cluttering up the menus with options and choices they probably won't understand or ever use. Sure, you can use filtering, My List, customise the 'quick' menu and set up custom mode dial presets to simplify things - but you've got to understand what the options mean in order to set those up.... Why not split the video bitrate/fps/frame size/codec options into 'basic' and 'advanced' sets out-of-the box? And when you press the 'record' button in photo mode, default it to shutter priority with 180 degree shutter angle, instead of 'P' mode with variable shutter speed/angle (but that is a historical Panasonic issue/feature going back many years - at least the 'flicker decrease' workaround for it is still in the menus).

I bought mine at whatever was the launch price, used it once, liked it, but decided I was better off with a 3rd S5ii, so returned for a refund.

I then decided over the Winter, I’d actually prefer one over that 3rd S5ii, so bought one back.

Happy with that decision plus a trio of f1.8 primes which make for a really capable compact kit.

Yes the S5ii is a ‘better’ bit of kit, but it’s not better for my needs.

Marketing/timing’s loss is our gain now at those prices, particularly with the 18-40mm lens.

The Hybrid Zoom function they introduced with the S9 and now have on the S5ii etc makes it an 18-62mm in 4K and 18-125mm in HD.

This cheap HDMI powered EVF that popped up on here recently might also be a good “in the pocket in case” pairing.

When comparing to an FX3 for example, which is 4.482,18 €.

Hopefully by spring the combo will be around 3500€ which is when I might look to buy them.

You can get a Z8 for that, let alone Z6 III!

You could even get a used Sony a1 for about the same, with a low shutter count.

3850 is 3x mint condition Panasonic S1H.

It's nuts.

Depends on your needs and budget at the end of the day. Of course I'd like it to be cheaper and I think it will be quite soon.

Non of the other camera you mentioned do OG 60p so for OG users that is quite the moot point. But for general users who don't care about OG they certainly have more choices.

Anyway with Panasonic there is always the fire sale after few months to a year, so for S1II I gonna wait for a year to see how much discount I can get.

In the mean time I m rocking with S9 and S5II. Got them both cheap after the discount and free lens to boot (free 85mm 1.8 for NZ one)
