My cameras and kit

1. Hi, I m trying to set up the best lens kit for the price for the BMC camera. I need your opinion on what's better: OPTION 1: Samyang 8mm f3.5 (video version) Samyang 24mm f1.4 (video version) Samyang 35mm f1.4 (video version) Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Price: approximately $2400 These are all full frame lenses (except for the last one), so they have future value and since all are EF, I would opt for EF mount BMC OPTION 2: Samyang 8mm f3.5 (video version) Samyang 35mm f1.4 (video version) Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f0.95 Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f0.95 Noktor SLR Magic 12mm f1.6 Price: approximately $3690 This option has 3 m4/3 lenses (not as future proof as full frame lenses), but way faster wides. I would have to go for BMC with m4/3 mount. Also this option is considerably more expensive - arround $1300, for my tight budget. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
2. Hi everybody, Is it possible to use Andrew's " 2.66 anamorphic " patch in a GH1 and get the same results as the GH2 with that specific patch? If not would you recommend a high quality anamorphic patch for GH1 ? I need to dedicate two cameras to anamorphic for our next project and we have too many GH1s siting on the shelves enjoying early retirement while GH2s are working overtime.
3. A couple of years ago SLRmagic started a thread on Dpreview's M43 forum for input for a new m43 lens, people asked for a fast wide lens, from the input the 12mm 1.6 was born. SLRmagic are to design a new anamorphic lens for m43, and would like the input of anamorphic shooters. Have your say... 4. Hey gang, Just a short clip I put together the other night at a concert.... Couldn't get close to the band, the venue was seriously overcrowded. https://vimeo.com/48690353
5. Hi, Hope someone can help with these issue. I shot in JPG MOV 30p 4:3 with anamorphic Moller 2X in Black and white. Now I want to convert 29.97 to 23.97 . I used compressor to do that task, but the blacks get crushed. To fix that I set in compressor a gamma correction. The original setting is 1,0 and I drop it to 0,86. On that way the picture stay very similar to original. Does anyone else know how to handle in a better way these issue? Best regards. Francisco.
6. I just got an email from SmallHD about some of the features of their new DP7 monitors that will be hitting the market this Fall. Of particular interest to the people who frequent this forum: ANAMORPHIC DE-SQUEEZE 2x, 1.5x, 1.33x — However your image is squeezed, the DP7 can correct the image to appear at the correct aspect ratio, even with DSLR scale. Particularly handy is the ability to send the un-squeezed picture downstream to other monitors for clients/directors who usually prefer non-squishy images (Coming Fall 2012 via free software upgrade). You can already more or less manipulate the DP4 and DP6 to display your 3.55:1 image (as well as the other standard crop ratios), but it's nice that they thought to add it in as a preset. After shelling out all of this dough for anamorphic lenses, not everyone will be able to afford a DP7 (myself included), but I would not be surprised if this is pushed out to the lower-end monitors as well in the next firmware update. Let's hope that the good folks at SmallHD are feeling generous!
7. I'd really like to find a good, economical solution to put ND filters in front of my set (75, 50 and 35mm in OCT18). I know that a matte box with 4x5.6 would be the most elegant solution, but I can't justify the cost since I wouldn't be using it use it with my other lenses. I use a fader for those. I have contemplated trying to trap a large-diameter ND fader in a lens collar (mounted to a rail block) and then sliding that in front of my lenses. But that seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Surely there must be a better solution. Anyone have any ideas?
8. I finally got some Anamorphic footage, rather than just tests. Here's my footage of EMKE Hawaii performing at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu. I only have 2 anamorphics (waiting for #3) so the I faked it by making the 5dmkIII super shallow DOF. Not the best option, but it fits in just fine. Please enjoy! 9. Hey guys, GH2 owner.. I have seen Rokinon's 7.5mm Fisheye they have for m43'rds and then I saw their 85mm F14 telephoto lens made for 4/3rds (on my wish list) for $300!! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/769411-REG/Rokinon_85M_O_85mm_f_1_4_Aspherical_Lens.html So I decided to take a look at their site and find out they have some also a 24mm F1.4 lens for $800.. I know its not as popular as the Voig F0.95 http://www.rokinon.com/product.php?id=191 Furthermore, they even have CINE lenses coming soon, including a 8mm HD Fisheye T lenses http://www.rokinon.com/product.php?id=206 and 35mm T1.5 CINE lens for Canon (for now hopefully).. http://www.rokinon.com/product.php?id=202 under $600 !!!!!! deal or no deal?? Wanted to get other people feedback about Rokinon and their come up with lens for both photographers and now cinematographers...
10. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any anamorphic lenses for sale? Really trying to get in the swing of anamorphic shooting. I'm bidding on a few lenses on eBay, but I'd like to see what everyone else has to offer if those fall through. Nothing that will break the bank either (which is hard to say considering most lens prices). Thanks!
11. My name is Taylor, im a student filmmaker in Sedona and have just recently switched to cinematography as my major. This is my first time posting on this site, however i have been following for a while (i own the GH2 shooters guide and anamorphic shooters guide). If i am posting in the wrong place, feel free to bump/ let me know how to fix. I am a new owner of the GH2 and have hacked it with the anamorphic hack in the anamorphic shooters guide. It works fantastic when i dont have a external monitor plugged in, shooting in beautiful 2.66:1 with an incredible bitrate. However, when i plug in my DP6 the gh2 automatically switches out of mjpeg (4:3) and into variable movie mode (16:9). Is there some setting i am missing? If anyone has any advice id appreciate it!
12. Hey guys and fellow GH2 owners.. I'm trying to decide between the Pancake 20mm F1.7 or the Leica 25mm F1.4... I know right, I don't owner either of these two lovely lens.. I may end up getting both in the end, but because have to buy one at a time, I ned to choose between them.. I'm slightly leaning towards the 25mm Leica, because of it's name, the nano lens that 20mm does not have, and F1.4 vs. F1.7... However SO many more people own the 20mm F1.7 and it may be because its cheaper.. at about $356 vs. $500... Any one have some nice photo shots of the 25mm leica and 20mm pancake? Would like to compare them through images.. Also the Panasonic Fisheye is a bit expensive, and the Panasonic 14mm F2.5 Prime pancake looks nice, wish the aperture was bigger.. I would get the Noktor 12mm T1.6 before the 14mm.
13. Hi I'm shooting a short over 4 days in England around October and looking to hire an Iscorama 36? The budget doesn't justify buying an Iscorama (plus they're a buggar to find!) Are there any owners in England who would rent their Isco 36 and clamp out to me? Also, out of curiosity, would people prefer the GH2 (Anamorphic hack with lomos?) setup or 7D (with Isco 36?) We have the option but can't find many good examples of the GH2 ana hack? Many thanks, James
14. My friend Alex works as a biologist, and this summer he has the good fortune to work on bird study in Grand Teton National Park. I went out to visit him and spent a week hiking/backpacking/bushwacking/canoeing around one of the most scenic places in North America. I brought my GH2, Konica 40mm and Baby Hypergonar along for the ride. I feel like I have been relying on music too much lately, so this piece is without any (mostly):
15. Hello all! New to here. Very excited about my new GH2 body. Apparently a lens is needed though. How about that? I purchased my GH2 mainly as a B-camera to use when shooting interview for close-up, beauty stuff to complement my medium wide (using the Panasonic AC130 as my A-cam), but hope to eventually learn to flex its muscles on more interesting stuff. I'm looking for some lens recommendations. These are kind of two separate questions, but what would be best for my needs and then what would be cheapest but workable? My research seems to point me to the Voigtlander 25mm, but it's a little pricey for me right now. I plan on getting the cheap kit lens (14-42) just for the purposes of learning the camera, but it seems the kit lenses aren't quite going to deliver me that nice shallow DOF look I'm hoping for. Any budget options that'll do the trick for me, putting it on a tripod and getting close up, blurry background, b-camera interview beauty stuff? Thoughts? Much appreciated. -Noah

17. Came across this Sankor 16C on Ebay. Looks excellent! But you need to be fast! :o http://www.ebay.nl/i...9#ht_500wt_1413
18. Hi guys, writer/director here working on getting my first feature up and running. I entered this comp with only 9 hours before the deadline, primarily, as when I saw the judges, I knew it was real people who make and live cinema and not funding bodies and other lack of film education types, who were going to see them. I shot it on the GH2 to test what I have always believed in, which is, that when it comes to any kind of artistic or creative expression, it is what you have to say and not what you say it on or with that counts, and nothing else, and I knew others had made full blown productions with full crews, budgets, locations and everything, so I was slightly taken aback when the judges: Paul Greengrass (Bourne films) Jeremy Bolt (Producer Event Horizon, Resident Evil films) and editor Eddie Hamilton (X-Men: First Class, Kick Ass) were unanimous as picking it as the winner!!! Here are a couple of their comments: Judges comments included Eddie Hamilton (X-Men editor)… ‘Very cinematic, excellent use of camera, composition, editing and music… a tour de force, and for me the clear winner.’ Producer Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil Franchise) commented… ‘Subtle and visually bold. Made you think and the boys performance was very believable it was understated. I also thought editing, cinematography and music were very strong.’ Would love to know what you all think. Less than 2 mins so nothing heavy. For me the GH2 totally rocks for all the reasons that Andrew has been tirelessly cheerleading it for, I am a guerilla filmmaker and don't like the time and wasted energy associated with waiting around on film sets to do this and setting up that, ok maybe if you are spending someone elses money, however I just like to shoot and get on with it. I am really wanting to shoot my feature in exactly the same way I made this and with this camera. So am always looking for likeminded, cine-literate, passionate about film... filmmakers. Best wishes to all and rememember if you can imagine it, you can do it... the mantra of Stanley Kubrick, who is GOD, that would be Greatest of Directors and my favourite for the integrity to the purpose of what you do and how to accomplish it :-)
