  1. For me the importance of oval bokeh actually out ways the need for severe horizontal flares. Stretched bokeh is something impossible to do in post and is what truly makes a 'Kubrick-stylie' cinematic image in my opinion. I can't wait for this lens to be released, I have trawled for years looking for a reasonably priced iscorama 36 with no luck!
  2. I am not disputing the quality and optics of the lens (and certainly not getting into an argument) but I must ask Andy what stretch factor this lens produces? If it is standard then it is X2, which is technically unusable on a 16:9 sensor (as nice as your films look 'QuickHitRecord') for high-end festival and cinema work. Now you could argue, 'okay who's making films for cinema on here?' well festival screens have the same standards and many would quickly reject a film shot at this insane aspect ratio of 3:55:1 (or similar) Plus many of the projector lenses have a minimum focal distance of 7 feet...meaning a lot of diopter juggling (if it's even possible on some?) The main question is 'would general audiences be happy to watch a film where the majority of the whole pciture is filled with black?' the answer is probably not. So Mondo, if you have an HD camera that shoots 4:3 natively then this lens could be perfect! In fact if thats true, you must tell us all which camera that is!! I shoot mainly with the Alexa now but I'm jumping back onto my trusted 7D for a short being shot in the coming months...main reason I'm searching for an Iscorama to hire! Btw QuickHitRecord I purchased exactly the same lens a couple of years ago and gave up trying to use it on a 7D, for many of the reasons I mentioned above!
  3. Hey Mondo, just a warning, don't go buying a lens like the one in the link above, it's a projector lens and ain't no good for shooting! You're looking around $3 - 4,000 for an iscorama 36 (which seems to be what everyone is after) I'm looking to hire one not buy. So if you're bidding on anything under $2,000 it's probably not worth bidding for?! Hope that helps at all?
  4. Hi I'm shooting a short over 4 days in England around October and looking to hire an Iscorama 36? The budget doesn't justify buying an Iscorama (plus they're a buggar to find!) Are there any owners in England who would rent their Isco 36 and clamp out to me? Also, out of curiosity, would people prefer the GH2 (Anamorphic hack with lomos?) setup or 7D (with Isco 36?) We have the option but can't find many good examples of the GH2 ana hack? Many thanks, James
