Because there is no hunting involved by the lens and its told to go directly to a specific position without passing go or collecting £200 then any speed differences that there may be are far less apparent if visible at all.
Yes it could target the zoom operation equally as it could focus but I don't know how familiar you are with MFT powered zooms but the bumpy violence with which they move to positions would make your shot look like a shark attack shot from Jaws rather than the beach scene with Brody.
He needs to contribute a bit more then as I'm currently doing all the graft while he's clearly sloping off every afternoon to play golf or get a pedicure.

Time of Flight / LiDAR continuous autofocus is really quite remarkable technology. There are rumours Panasonic will implement it on future cameras like the GH6. Don’t you wish the current autofocus-challenged cameras like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K or GH5 could have amazingly smooth Dual Pixel AF-like performance?
Well, you could soon be in luck. Time of Flight Autofocus is a reality and I’ve seen it working.
With this prototype add-on, a Time of Flight sensor sits in the hotshoe and talks wirelessly to the Pocket 4K. The autofocus motors in the Micro Four Thirds lens are commandeered based on real-time depth sensing information from the LiDAR beam.
I met up with CDA-TEK’s Ian (BTM_Pix on the forum) this week in Manchester to take a look at what he’s been working on.

When did hyperbolic nonsense pass from camera manufacturers to the actual camera users? These are cameras, not sports teams. Give it a rest with the "x destroys x!" stuff.

Dropbox is roughly around that price, too.
Google Drive though works well, and though it says you have a 2 TB limit I believe they don't actually enforce it.
I have both, since a lot of people I work with use Dropbox and it's easier for them to use.

What's reasonably priced for you? ?
I use the Sirui T-005 that @Mattias Burling turned me on to years and years ago when he also sold me on the original Pocket. It's nice and compact, and I think was in the $150 range. It's well made, all aluminum, and I usually carry it on the side of my backpack when traveling.
Looks like it has gone down in price! Sirui T-005X Aluminum Tripod with C-10S Ball Head, 8.8 lbs Capacity, 58" Height, 5 Leg Sections, Red https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01FG7X8TQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qp6lDbNB5FQ46
$90 is a real good deal! Basically the same price as the Amazon brand one.

The idea of M43 being the testing ground for these kinds of things is kinda exciting and confirms what I, and others, thought about Panasonic using the system to lead the way when it comes to features.
For some Full Frame will always be king, but if they can keep M43 small and innovative my interest in the system will remain. Give me the benefits of the smaller sensor, please!

Canon produces nicer colors than Sony, yes, but no newer camera really "destroys" any other newer camera. They're all capable of producing good video, even Sony. The major difference is personal preference and workflow. Which is the best tool for your type of work?
@Mattias Burling has always had the right attitude, I think. He uses the Canon EOS R because it's the right tool for him and his work. Nothing more, nothing less. He's not going on about how it "destroys" this camera or that camera, because even if it were true it's not really relevant. What's good for you might not be good for me and features that are important to you might not be important to me.
All of these cameras will still be able to produce "good enough" images 5 years from now, even as new cameras with better specs get released, just as there are people producing good videos today using old GH cameras or old Canon Rebel cameras.
You ask what camera can touch the Z6? Pretty much all of them, honestly. And that's okay.
Almost all of the things you praise about the Z6, including the sensor size, are "specs." ?

Yeah, that's a spec you can find going with several MFT camera models.
The hardest you'll try, you won't find any smartphone with such sensor size anyway ; )

And several of them from distinct manufacturers, not only one : P
Why bother to even mention? It is so obvious what Z6 cannot offer.

Hey, I guess we've already had this conversation before, no? Sounds a déjà vu feeling BTW : -)

    That's a spec.  Smartphones do 4K @ 60p.
Full frame 4K 30fps ful sensor @ 10 bit - what m4/3 can do this? None because they aren't full frame.

    I voted Fujifilm ?
Between the two, with minimal processing, I appreciate Canon more. Sony is capable, if you use the newer cameras and really work on it, but you can honestly even shoot JPEG on a Canon and get lovely colors ready to print. The same goes for video, though I'd give overall IQ to Sony in that department. Color wise though it's just hard for Sony to compare when you see them side by side.

I got this from a reliable source:
Panasonic is working to on their ToF sensor from the Vivo Nex Dual phone to implement it on a new AF system in their MFT line!
But I am not sure when it will go live (gh6/7/8)
Time of Flight measures accurate distances to subjects, so tap on touchscreen for subject to focus on, get an almost instant ToF reading to distance, quickly move lens focus system to where it needs to be for that distance (no contrast “wobble”, no overshooting, pinpoint accurate video tracking focus, etc). In theory, it beats “hybrid” (ie PDAF + CDAF like in the Sony/Fuji) because it eliminates the need for any back and forward movements that are required by CDAF calculations! It also eliminates PDAF sensor banding that Sony cleverly hides (but Canon and Nikon haven’t mastered the cover up quite as well, it can be seen in shadow recovery). Panasonic will use MFT as testing and maturing grounds for new developments (ToF AF, organic sensors, etc), much like Olympus does for their MFT > medical devices
This sounds like the holy grail of autofocus! No PDAF artifacts and superfast autofocus system!

I bought into the numbers and spec game that Sony played for a couple of years (2015-2017). Used the A7s, A7rII, and FS5. 4K! 40+ megapixels! 240fps!
I call these the dead years.
Yes, I got some good stuff with them and thanks to a great colorist, was able to grade some films so that it looked great. But the day to day shoots, the general travel photos, the one-man band work, the portfolio of work that doesn't have professional colorist attached to it just isn't even in the same ballpark image quality wise as something from a Canon or Panasonic.
While you use a Sony, you don't really realize that there is something off - you just get used to it. My wake up call is when I looked at old, 8-bit HD footage from my Canon 60D that I shot in 2012/2013. It just looked so much nicer, natural, and beautiful. Quickly tested out some new systems, felt the same about the footage I was capturing on those, and dropped Sony as quick as I could.
Still love Canon and think they have the best CS and best image right out of the box, but Panasonic is very close and also give you the specs that Sony does. So, it's Panasonic for me right now. Maybe if Canon give us a 10-bit C100III with RF mount and a pro-body EOS R with 2020 video specs, they could come out ahead. But feels like Panasonic is the company that will give us what we want spec-wise while also giving us high image quality and color.
