"GH5 V-Log and Hybid Log-Gamma are transformed to precisely match the color science of the Alexa, without compromise."
"The GH Alex conversion completely transforms the GH5 image, addressing every nuance of color reproduction (from shadows to highlights, low saturation to high saturation, for every possible hue). This includes an organic rolloff which fully eliminates channel clipping."

No you can't. May I suggest upgrading to a GH5 and use the Dual Record feature, which records the video file to two SD cards simultaneously. If your doing once in a lifetime events, it's worth it to have the assurance that you have a real time backup, because SD cards do fail!

Though I'm a little bit late (almost 2 years late, that is), and topic starter has already solved his problem, I'll still put my 2 cents in.
These things happen with old flash cards, so you have to be careful when you use them like too often (wedding video business count in), as it can melt down any moment. And the thing is, it's almost unrestorable - like, you will only be able to restore those 10-20-30% of your data before the crash happened.
It's different when you have some physical damage done to your camera - this way your files can be recovered, as you have your data stored somewhere on the card, but it's marked as an empty space (this is the reason why you'd better not turn on your camera again if the damage happened - first recover your corrupted media - or this "empty" space will be overwritten, and your video lost forever). You should make an image file and restore it sector-wise - or send it to some good video recovering service, e.g. restore.media.
Hope this might be helpful to someone with a similar case. Best of luck!

I have had one of these for years. I have always liked the idea if being able to hang it off the bottom of the camera. And it is pretty small in reality for all the stuff it has in and on it..

Quality of the mic pre-amps, more channels, dual level recording, compressors and all the other reasons you'd use an external recorder?
The control box is attached to the recorder and speaks to the camera wirelessly (wifi on Panasonics and Bluetooth on the Pocket 2) so keeps you cable free if you have a dedicated sound recordist or the camera is on a gimbal and you want to keep the recorder off it.
Yeah, the DR70 could do with a grown ups mode where phantom power can be switched on without it reacting like you want to put a toaster in the bathtub.

Canon FD glass is a luxury that is not dispensed with... Once addicted, count on forever, my friend : ) People call it old, yeah...
Once, a hotel owner in Rome told me it is not old! It is antique hehe :-)
Vintage in our terms means gouden standaard :D BTW, I nowadays live half an hour away of Leica standard manufacturing... ; ) Sorry for the contamination LOL

I have found an affinity for old Canon FD glass. It's cheap and quite plentiful. I have a 50mm f/1.4, a 28mm f/2.8 and a 35-105mm f/3.5 and I got them all for less than $200! I also have a generic speedbooster which gives me a few more focal lengths to play with, but optically, it's kinda trash, so I don't use it much. I'll probably invest in a proper one soon.

You'll probably find that in general, even broadcast shooters don't use 1080i. Almost everything I shoot is sent out to TV, and I always shoot 4k25p - although I will shoot 50p where available. From there, you can create 1080i and no one is ever going to tell the difference, unless they're really looking for it. You might get a dirty frame at the very end of each clip, but who uses the last frame of a shot anyway?
That said, depending on how you process it 50p will (in theory) transcode to 25i perfectly, taking the upper fields from frame 1 and lower from frame 2 etc.
So yes, who needs internal interlaced anymore?

^ I figured that out my first week with the GH4, comparing how different the Pana 12-35 image looked to the Voigts. I think the auto-corrections done to native M43 lenses probably add to the sharpened/digital look, too, vs legacy/manual glass.

One of the things I hear people say about the GH5S, GH5 and GH4 before it is this 'videoy' adjective. This could mean many different things depending on who you ask. The noise reduction is too high, or the colors are way off (or off from what you think they should be), or the contrast is too high.
But what I've figured out is this: Everyone is trying to emulate the imperfections of film! You PAID MONEY to add in grain after waxing an image clean, all because you didn't like the SIZE of the sensor's native grain!
So, if you have a GH4, GH5, GH5S try this: Noise Reduction to -5, Sharpness to -5, Contrast to -5, Color to -2 and use LEGACY GLASS. The low contrast of this glass will give you what you desire.

Yeah, their thread about the new BMPCC4K was quite interesting

I'd love to be at that Hydrogen launch event to see how the forum's collective persona translates into the real world when they actually meet Brian, erm, I mean Jim.
I'd especially be interested in knowing what he thinks of it.
I mean, he must know its a bit 'unusual' for grown adults to react to what are often negative statements with such fervour?
Even Steve Jobs would be saying "OK, lets tone this down a notch lads"

Lux Shots got a reaction from andrgl in Firmware Update To Output RAW over HDMI? Is that even remotely possible???
You can send all kinds of data over a HDMI 2.0 port. The standard already has support for Ethernet over the cable, so no reason they can't send RAW. The problem is which part of the hardware of the GH5S is doing the HDMI out. Is it the FPGA? The processor? A dedicated ASIC?

Bullshit! I've done this in the past, it's a perfectly acceptable way to fund manufacturing cost. You spend your capital on R&D, then you do pre-orders to fund initial manufacturing.
One of the more difficult things to predict with a new product is demand. If you overestimate, you'll tap available cash flow which can be painful. If you underestimate, per unit cost are higher and lead times longer because you have to wait to get a slot for a new run. Pre-orders takes care of both of theses. Just order 20% more than your protests and that will be a good first production run.

It depends. A juggernaut in the retail camera space like B&H may get a line of credit in the form of net 30 or net 60. So if you pay B&H $1400, $1200 goes to Black Magic. So let's say B&H sold 100 cameras in pre-order. They will probably get a shipment for 120 and they will owe B&H the cash on the 20 in 30 or 60 days.

I would also hold a camera with my right hand if I was going to film myself, and I assumer most right handed people would do the same, so that extra record button won't be all that helpfull. In the presentation, Grant noted he was left handed, and so it's perfect for him. Selfish man!
