I am single handedly claiming the credit for the announcement of this product today as it was clearly triggered by me buying the Sennheiser version less than 24 hours ago !

Biggest news of the day: they added a headphone jack AND it's in an even better spot than on the GH5. Lower down the body means more rotation for the screen when headphones are in.

I noticed a bug today with the new firmware update for the Metabones Ultra SB EF. The touch AF is absolutely horrible on the Sigma 18-35mm in BRAW. But, switch it over to any flavor of ProRes and it’s pretty decent.

Along those same lines, the same lens setup works horribly with the Bluetooth+ app’s manual focus slider in BRAW, but is perfect in ProRes.

Even more than 2 years after release the best GH5 replacement is... another GH5  There's no other camera that ticks all the boxes of the GH5. Some cameras like the XT-3 come close, but they're all missing something: IBIS or 10 bit or flip screen or EVF or good battery life or XLR adapter, etc. It has it all. Just my take.

MurtlandPhoto reacted to BTM_Pix in 3C Cinema Camera Controller App for Pocket 4K - OFFICIAL LAUNCH
    Well, here we are then.

The 3C app is now officially available from the Play store for Android devices.
3C enables you to remotely control and monitor the primary functions of your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K from an Android device using Bluetooth LE.

Using 3C, you have access to the following camera functionality.

    Aperture
    ISO
    Shutter Angle
    White Balance
    Record
Focus & Zoom (with compatible lenses)

With 3C you can also store your own custom setting sets for exposure, focus and zoom parameters for later recall as well as automate transitions between stored focus points*.

For ease of use, 3C uses a single screen touch interface to control all of this functionality and avoid the need for you to have to activate any sub-menus to change settings.

3C has a scalable user interface to enable you to remove focus and zoom controls from the screen should you not require them and wish to run the app on a small screen Android device.
In addition, 3C can also be used as an interface hub to enable control of the camera from compatible Bluetooth gamepads.
You can purchase 3C from the Play store here http://tinyurl.com/y5eyujeu
You can read the PDF user guide here User Guide For 3C v1.1 by CDA-TEK Ltd .pdf
You can use gamepads from iPega and 8Bitdo that support keyboard mode and examples of these are https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KA6OR7Q (iPega) and https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017PAX036 (8Bitdo).
3C will also support wireless live viewing from the camera in a future update with additional hardware.

Because a lot of people still don’t know how to color video correctly. They slap on some adjustments to one frame of the shot and then move on to the next. I see it all the time. Working with the stills is easier as you only have that one frame and then, working with say ACR, makes it, again, so much easier.

    Hello everybody!

So, I've attended the Blackmagic Raw seminar held at CVP here in London yesterday and I thought I'd share some impressions:
Let's start with the bad news first: unfortunately there is no official release date for BRAW on the PCC4K yet.. They confirmed it is coming to the camera 100% but they want to make absolutely sure that the update is safe and won't brick the camera (which sounds like a sensible plan indeed!) ?
That been said I can't wait to have the option to use BRAW, it's such a clever and well implemented solution and i reckon it will be the best choice on the PCC4K for 90% of the occasions. What really impressed me is how good the performance is in Resolve compared to CNDG, it is entirely possile to edit BRAW on a laptop without creating optimised media and/or dropping the resolution. To drive the point home even more they worked on a grading project that was hosted on a USB 3.0 spinning drive and it worked flawlessly, i was quite shocked when I saw a clip with a speed ramp set in optical flow playing at 24fps at full quality on an entry level MBP!
Another super clever feature of BRAW is the ability to shoot with any dynamic range preset and being able to revert back to film mode afterwards, that is pretty awesome for dailies or things like that.
I also very appreciated the fact that they were totally sincere in showing us the difference in visual quality between BRAW and CDNG and, although there is a slight difference in quality with CDNG being a bit sharper, said difference is only visible in extreme magnification (pixel peeping basically) so in real life BRAW is perfectly adequate especially considering the many advantages it offers in terms of workflow. The Blackmagic guys reckoned that CDNG would be the best choice only in very specific situations where having the best quality possible is paramount (like VFX for istance).
Overall it's been a very interesting demonstration and i think BRAW will make the PCC4K even better value for money, exciting times ahead!

You're probably right in terms of marketing a better IBIS because that would be something that people care about and would help to sell cameras.
More generally, I still don't think you can rely on marketing.  Firstly, there are potentially large numbers of individual changes from model to model of a camera line, not all of which will get attention.  Marketing treads a delicate balance between saying the new camera is awesome because it is so much better than the other ones on offer, and implying that the other ones are so much worse than the new one, especially when an improvement can be seen as fixing some kind of deficiency instead of just adding on awesomeness.
Someone recently started a thread about the IBIS noise being picked up by the internal microphones in the G/GX ranges (IIRC) and someone else pointed out that the GH5 has added internal microphones to cancel out that noise from the internal mics, which was a feature that some people hadn't heard about.  My guess was that this kind of thing probably wouldn't be marketed because it's fixing a flaw in other models that they really don't want to highlight, despite the fix costing money and being of some benefit to customers.
In terms of why they might innovate without a need, it could be that they buy parts in huge volumes to get sustainable prices and after running out of the IBIS motors or controllers or whatever and when they did the next bulk purchase they could only buy the next model up because the old one was discontinued, so the decision to upgrade was made for them.  Or the new features were available in a newer firmware in that chipset (and they hadn't allowed updating of that chipset in the previous models).  Or they had to upgrade a part due to physical size, power consumption, pin layout (to enable different circuitboard layouts) or any number of other reasons.
People tend to underestimate how complicated technology actually is.  If we were to take the drive-train of a car (without the computer chips) and draw it out in a kind of functional diagram, you could fit it on a large sheet of paper, if we included all the switches and controls for indicators and heated seats and power windows in a luxury car then it might be the size of a small wall in your house.  If we did the same for something like a laptop computer or digital camera (they're going to look roughly the same) the writing would be so small that it probably wouldn't be readable even if you made the diagram the size of the field in a sports stadium.
How they build electronic devices is also a strange process.  People think of it like they start designing a product, then they work out all the features, then they buy the bits and put them al together to do that.  It's not like that.  It's a massive shit fight between the marketing and design departments who want to offer every new feature imaginable requiring new parts and redesigns, the engineering department who want to add no new features but make it robust and reliable requiring better parts without a redesign, the accounting department who wants to make it the cheapest possible by buying older cheaper parts in bulk, senior management who are concerned with how their product is or isn't compatible with competitors products, all in an environment where the companies who make products are trying to do secret deals with the parts manufacturers to give them great deals on new parts but block the other companies from buying the best and latest chips.  Add onto that the football-pitch sized complexity of what they're building and the ripple-effect of how changing one part can mean that other parts also need to be changed, potentially then needing further changes in other parts.  This includes interconnectedness of other products which might already be on sale like lenses and memory cards and flashes etc.
And after all that, companies like Nikon are known for implementing support for features well ahead of the time of launch.  IIRC they released some kind of lens functionality which was previously unavailable but it was supported on camera bodies that had been selling for years - so those camera bodies had features that were sitting there waiting for the lenses to be released, so you not only have to ensure compatibility with current features but perhaps future features as well.  It's a huge mess basically, so marketing isn't really a reliable source for all that stuff.

Oh that that where the only bug in that project.
    Have a look at Duet.
I use mine with the Mountie clip system that attaches it to the side of the laptop screen but any old stand will do.
They have recently fixed the issues they had with Mojave.

As I say, they've recently updated it in the past few weeks to fix issues they had with Mojave so a lot of it will be related to those previous problems.
I have not switched to Mojave so can't comment but I'm on High Sierra 10.13.5 and it works fine for me with the latest version installed.
It even gives me a Touch Bar emulation at a cheaper price than upgrading my MBP
With regard to price, it is a one off price for the regular version ($20-ish) and a subscription add on for the pro version which lets you use the iPad as a digitiser.
I use it in a few different ways, depending on what I'm up to.
In FCP-X I have the iPad Pro handling the interface and the MBP full screen as the picture monitor.
For work, I will be editing pictures on the MBP and use the iPad Pro to view and control the FTP application so I can keep an eye on the transmission of the pictures to the agency without having to swap applications. As Duet works with any iOS device (and the one off payment covers you to use it on all the devices linked to your Apple account) then I tend to use an iPhone more than an iPad for that as it saves space and is an appropriate screen size for a smaller application.
There are other similar products out there though so have a look around.

Yep, a monitor is a must for many reasons. This camera can be used as it is, but most times it will need additional accessories. I will always suggest a SmallHD Focus, smallest and brightest solution.
If you do not care about brightness, one of the cheap 5.5" copy cats will do.

    I believe they do subconsciously.
They might not be able to articulate it though, as they don't have our trained filmmaker's eye.

    a) diminishing returns apply
    b) how do you define "10X better"??

Let's make up some random simple numbers as a basic example:

A company sells $40,000,000 of a product each year with a 25% profit margin on that.
They predict if they spend $10K on an advert and $400K on the advertising spend for that advert that then they'll see a 10% lift in sales in the coming year.
Should they do this? Of course they should! It will lead to millions of dollars in extra profit.

Now what if they predict they'll get a 20% lift in sales with the $100K advert? (with the same $400K advertising spend. Although... often this budget would be larger too, to go along with the pricier video budget itself. But hey, I'm not pulling this example from any real life figures, and I'm just keeping the figures simple)
You might say "But David, they're only seeing a 2X improvement for a 10X increase in production cost!!"
However I'd suggest you stop and re-think this, you don't need have the video be anywhere near "10X better" for it to be worthwhile to spend 10X more on the video shoot.

Rather instead if the client believes these figures (of a 2X improvement on their sales volume increase vs the $10K video) then this is an obvious no brainier decision they should make to spend $100K on the video.

Yeah, I have fond memories, but if the portfolio I've spent 10 years on isn't guaranteed safe, it leaves me little choice but to do something about it! I mean, an online video channel is so key to what we do... Always has been... If it were to disappear randomly one night in the blink of an eye because Vimeo's CEO doesn't have her eye on the ball, it'll be a disaster for me and for EOSHD, the blog.
Whatever I think of Vimeo in 2018 and what it has changed to become, it all comes down to that really.
I'd rather stay and enjoy the community there... Maybe from a safer distance, from now on.
I also really like that YouTube makes an effort to explain their DMCA stuff in a more friendly way and in plenty of detail. The first I knew of Vimeo's policy was a big warning message flashing up saying my account was an inch away from obliteration
