    Hello.
I'll maker this short but informative.
Firstly, I sold my FS5 Raw setup - took a big risk, got a GH5 to replace it. The reason was mostly down to portability.
Recently shot an entire paid music video with the GH5 and some stuff on the A6500. I'd never used the GH5 before - it practically just came out the box. Shot in Vlog L. Had an awesome experience.

    Main Pros
IBIS. Much better than the A6500. Invaluable.  Speedbooster XL gives a very different look to typical M43. Sigma ART's + XL = win!  1080p 10bit modes are fantastic. Made the A6500 in 1080p look fuzzy and blurry.  Body design is one of the best I've experienced. Battery grip definitely gives a steadier feel to handling and definitely gives a higher impression to the client. Big impact. VlogL is fairly easy to get into (coming from Slog). Colours are accurate and lovely when graded.  Custom white balance is very quick and easy.  Menu system is pretty nice, especially the My Menu bit. Way better than the A6500.  Small and powerful enough to put straight onto the Zhiyun Crane and Edelkrone Motion Kit.  Battery life is decent (but nowhere near as good as the GH3 - which was ridiculous).  EVF nice and large. Again much better than the A6500.  Full Size HDMI. Yep. Main Cons (I'm being picky here)
CineD skintones - finding it hard to get it where I want. Looks very odd off the bat. I need to work more on this as V-log isn't always the best profile to use.  Photo Style options are very lean (compared to Sony). Not a massive deal, but would be nice to have more options.  Autofocus is essential for my gimbal stuff. A6500 is excellent here. GH5 before V2 firmware is not. Hopefully this is reliable now.  Dynamic range is a bit less and steeper in the rolloff than what I'm used to. Again, need to mess round with things to get it smoother in the grade.  I think the record button is in the wrong place. I just use the shutter button anyway.
    Overall
An absolutely outstanding piece of kit.
I've only used the camera for one shoot, but using this camera has already made a big impression and is already serving my creative choices to a greater level than the FS5 did.
I've not updated the firmware yet, but what Panasonic have give us is an incredibly valuable tool with almost very single feature you could ever ask for, or actually need.
With a great emphasis on online video distribution, and video being consumed on smart devices - if that's how you're playing it, I would say you would never need another camera for a very long time.
If the Autofocus is reliable in V2, it would relegate my A6500 to just a carry around camera.
Got to say, I'm incredibly pleased and looking forward to shooting more.

(see below for quick VlogL grade).

    A good decision!
    1. Speed Booster XL has the most full-frame-like look, unless you want to avoid vignetting on APS-C lenses then go for the Ultra. Also if you want the absolute best corner sharpness go for the Ultra.
    2. Not tried the battery grip as the internal battery last ages and spares so easy to carry! Might improve ergonomics though.
    3. The XLR hotshoe audio adapter?
    4. 35-100 II... Nah. I'd go for the Olympus 12-100mm F4 instead. Run & gun with AF I take it?
    5. Only if you need AF when re-framing a shot otherwise stick to Sigma
    6. You don't need it, the screen is fine! Keep it simple.
    7. Haha
    8. Yes.

I shot a short film for the Rode contest recently here (vote for it too please if you liked it!): https://www.rode.com/myrodereel/watch/entry/4364
I used my GX85 with the Cine-D mod by @BTM_Pix and it worked great! Lenses used were the Voigtlander 17.5mm, SLR Magic 35mm f/0.95 and (mostly) the Rokinon 85 with Metabones XL Speedbooster. I was really happy with the look and how everything turned out. I did accidentally shoot on Portrait for a couple clips (not sure how, but I may have subconsciously switched it to "movie mode" instead of "C" where my Cine-D mode was saved on). I loved being able to shoot with such a small camera, and I intentionally tried to bring as little gear as possible to just keep things simple and not have to worry about which lens I should be using all the time!
I was definitely pleasantly surprised at how well the audio turned out too. I used Rode Lavaliers and was surprised at how I did not get any wind noise and barely any rustling sounds from clothing.
Let me know what your thoughts are and if you had any questions for me. I'll be happy to answer them!

    @jonpais
In our nowadays (social bullshit driven) lunacy society, general experience, facts and pure common sense are no longer respected: "Monkey see, monkey do". Without any feeling for special circumstances (lighting, etc.) required in every single scene. The gearhead driven brigade likes "global solutions": One single profile shooting, then applying a quick lut on it, get ready...
Real deep education and self criticism are not the strongest skills of militant gearheads, driven by ignorance, inexperience and ugly, "LUT-centered" mentality. If "other guys" shoot in X-log, they do it too - Monkey see, monkey do. Even if it looks like shit. It's a kind of mass desaster, having nothing to do with artistic aspects. Unbalanced BS colors and violation of elementary visual principles have nothing to do with art. This is NOT an artistic choice, it's a result of an uneducated and unreflected, superficial crowd, just trying to copy & paste assumed success methods.
The bad thing is. It doesn't work, as long as you don't know what you do. Great visual masters don't have standard methods, settings or luts for shooting in different scenarios. They try to apply individualized methods to every single scene or circumstance.
BTW: I've tried this too. It didn't work for me - and THIS is good news...

tonysss reacted to BTM_Pix in And For My Next Trick....... (aka Why I was hacking the GX80 in the first place)
So as I've hinted more than a few times in the other thread, the discovery of the Cinelike D and other bits and pieces for the GX80 etc was actually a bit of a happy accident while I was trying to do understand the Panasonic wifi stuff for something else.
And here is that something else.
Well at least a prototype of it but it is fully functioning and will just be finessed a bit more.
Basically, its a wireless hardware remote for the G series cameras that operates over wifi and can currently control record start/stop, shutter speed as well as aperture and focus if you're using a native lens, including a single shot AF switch.
For the non-Cinelike D cameras that can now be hacked to have Cinelike D there is also a dedicated button to toggle it on and off so you don't need to mess about with browsers and computers or smartphones anymore.
Focus and aperture control are done on a joystick and everything else is switches.
I'll be putting a layer switch on so that it can be toggled back and forth to a different control mode for ISO, WB and other stuff.
As this is the prototype it is nowhere near the finished piece and it will be reduced in form factor to just be about the size of the control board. Power is by any USB source so there are billions of options.
There is a lot more finessing and feature enhancement to go on with regard to the focus control (and yes, I know exactly what you'll all want it to do !) but the hard part is done now.
It does support the display of the values on a screen and I'll be sorting some options out for that.
The purpose of this gadget is primarily for use with a gimbal but it can also be really useful on a tripod bar for anyone shooting live event stuff. For cameras with inbuilt lenses I'm going to add a zoom mode on the joystick.
A very quick very rough demo so you can see it in action.
Any lag you might see between me operating the controller and the camera video is just a sync issue between me throwing the two recordings on very quickly
